Apr 11, 2011 - Happy Birthday Jeff, Etc.

Sunday morning started out with a call from our oldest grandson, Jeff, he beat us to it. We were going to wait another hour before we called to wish him Happy 22nd Birthday. He is such a sweetheart, he said he loves the pillowcase I made for him. I'll be looking for a big hug in a week or so!! The rest of Sunday passed just as pleasant as the start. It was hot, we chose to have the air on all day, even though we were outside much of the time visiting. Sometime during the night the wind shifted to the north and blew out the heat. I...

Apr 9, 2011 - Friday and Saturday

Our winter season here at Fort Clark is rapidly coming to an end. We are looking forward to getting to Minnesota to see family and friends and being once again in the travel mode, but this place isn't easy to leave. Friday was another big day. Dan and I once again carted over to the 1:00 Bridge game at the Adult Center. We had a good time and ended up in a 3-way tie for first place, so I guess all my screw-ups didn't hurt our game too badly. We braved the record high temperatures and carted from the Activity Center to Pico's to pick up a...

Apr 7, 2011 - Quiet Week

It's hard to find something to put in a travel blog when all we are doing is enjoying everyday life. As for the "travel" part, we'll be doing that next week, but going pretty much directly to Minnesota. Depending on gas prices, we will do some meandering come this fall. Dan called Treasure Island RV park yesterday, they are open for business and our site is ready. All the snowpiles are just about melted. Hopefully we'll be there for Easter with the family. The last days here are melting into one another, lovely weather, lots of visiting,...

Apr 4, 2011 - A Nice Monday

Last night was the first night we kept the a/c on all night. Soon the wind came up and blew out the heat and humidity and it turned out to be a beautiful day, even with the wind. I sat outside reading Fallen Skies by Philippa Gregory and getting some sun. In between I baked bread, made chicken enchiladas for supper and did a load of laundry which dried in minutes. Dan went to town for milk and did a post office run. We both enjoyed the first part of the afternoon on the patio and then walked over to join the crowd at Clyde’s until...

Apr 3, 2011 - Staying Cool

Today I was sitting outside under the shade of the awning and the tree, visiting and reading a book in between. I went inside once about 5:00 and the thermometer showed 96. Oops, time to turn on the air, that's almost 100!! First thing on Saturday we went to town with the broken tire. Seems I may not have been the culprit after all, it was a bad valve stem. After two tries, the co-op pointed us to a tire place on the highway that was open and they fixed it. After a post office run, we looked for a breakfast place and were about to park at...

Apr 1, 2011 - B and B

The first B is for the card game, Bridge. FINALLY I got Dan to play at the 1:00 duplicate game and we came in third which isn't too bad considering we haven't played for years. I'm hoping next season to get back to playing Bridge regularly. The second B is for Bingo. There is a Bingo game on the Fort every Friday night which we generally avoid since we don't really like the night life. But now it's light so late and a certain number is needed to keep it going a while longer, so we went to help with the body count. I had fun winning one game...

Mar 31, 2011 - Wednesday and Thursday

The last two mornings we've had the fireplace on a bit, by yesterday afternoon Clyde's thermometer read 92.8 with 17% humidity which felt good. Dan golfed on Thursday afternoon and I puttered. I put some pork chops in the crockpot which got so well done they about disintegrated, I guess we had pork chop stew. Dan got ambitious and made us a nice breakfast of bacon and eggs this morning. After that we drove into Uvalde to Walmart for a "few things" which turned into a truckload. We got the correct inner tube this time, so I suspect a bike...

Mar 29, 2011 - Storm Watch

The morning started off rather humid and rain looked imminent most of the day. I hung out clothes anyway and they dried fast. Dan headed to the golf course to join the 12:30 group. I baked bread, Weight Watcher apple pies in won tons and puttered. At one point I joined Agnes on her patio to watch the stump removal going on in front of Loran and Jeannie’s. We sure lead exciting lives!! I did take a nice, long bike ride. I even biked over to the golf course and caught Dan with his group on the 18th hole. We both got home at the same time...

Mar 28, 2011 - Ladies Luncheon

Today was the Ft. Clark monthly ladies luncheon. It's all pretty fancy and the food was really good - avocado mousse, creamed chicken over puff pastry, broccoli salad, pear with jam sauce and a chocolate mocha cake for dessert (which I brought home to Dan). There was supposed to be entertainment, but one of the entertainers got food poisoning, so one of our ladies stepped up and told a couple of jokes and sang a few songs. Betty and I rode with Allison because she has a cart with a back seat. We took the long way home, going around by the...

Mar 26, 2011 - Meeting/Lunch/Happy Hour and Salad Buffet

We began our day by carting over to the RV park to bid Andrea and Bob adieu, we will see them next year when they return for two months. It was nice reconnecting with these two and we enjoyed the time spent with them. From there we headed over to the Fort's annual meeting being held at the Post Theater. I have never been in the building and was looking forward to seeing it and I wasn't disappointed. The meeting went fast and soon it was time for everyone to head to the Service Club where all members were served a BBQ lunch of brisket, beans...

Mar 25, 2011 - Thursday and Friday

Dan has been golfing his brains out, four days in a row. His body generally demands a break after two days, so he's been doing good, he's still able to walk. He's going to take a rest now over the upcoming weekend. I spend my days just doing whatever comes up. I had good intentions of taking a nice long bike ride on Thursday but as I was passing by Evelyn's, I saw there was something going on in her garage. A neighbor was squaring up a quilt and I had to watch. By then it was lunch time and I never made it back out past the patio. What's...

Mar 23, 2011 - Tuesday and Wednesday

Once again it seems to be all about the weather which has been in the low 90's and gorgeous with low humidity - no need for air conditioning. I've spent a lot of time the last two days hanging out on the patio. Our mesquite trees are fully leafed out and I love the way they sway in the breeze. I've also noticed lots of pretty songbirds in the branches, yesterday a Hooded Oriole singing his little heart out. I am unable to identify the other colorful visitors passing through. Dan's back has improved enough to allow him to be on the golf...
