May 1, 2018 - Glass Travel Blog 4.30.18 Update

WINTER 2018 BLOG Winter seemed to fly by this year. We love our new kitchen & Larry loves having tools again. He is constantly thinking up new projects so he can use them. We stayed busy with house guests, entertaining our local friends, exercise classes, golf, singing in the church choir and the usual doctor & dentist appointments. Mary attended monthly Villa Ladies Luncheons and we planned a neighborhood villa block party to help get acquainted with all the neighborhood changes. Those changes have occurred as our friends age with three of...

May 10, 2011 - The Big One

When I got up this morning it took a little longer for the body to straighten and I could see a little more gray in my hair. Today was the Big 7-0 for me. And I thought 50 was old! To help celebrate this milestone, Ted and Sue joined us for a trip to Edina, MN and the Q Cucumbers Restaurant, one of our favorite eating establishments. It is a lot like Sweet Tomatoes, only better. The food was really good but the company was better. I got in a lot of good belly laughs, thanks Ted! And also thanks for the gift of the Chicago mix, I've eaten...

May 8, 2011 - Mother's Day 2011

What a nice Mother's Day!! Laurie had made arrangements that we all meet at Champ's for brunch. The big surprise of the day was that Jeanne and Rob made the 2+ hour trip from WI to join us! The time went way too fast. After the umpteenth time the waiter asked could he get us anything else, we took the hint and left. Jeanne and Rob headed to the golf store, Connie went home to nurse her allergies, Steve and Jeff ran some errands and Laurie and I made a beeline to JoAnn Fabrics while Dan waited in the truck sorting through the mail Laurie and...

May 7, 2011 - Spring Has Sprung

Finally the weather has started to warm up and the trees are rapidly growing those green things and the fruit trees have some lovely looking blossoms. The nicer weather gives us a nicer attitude about being here. It was so nice on Friday that Dan and Sue actually got in a game of golf at Gopher Hills. They both said what a good time they had. Later we drove over to their house for a happy hour and then off we went to Muddy Waters in Prescott for an as usual good dinner. We had the added pleasure of the company of the Browns' 9 year old...

May 4, 2011 - This and That

Basically the weather here still stinks so we have been limited to what we can do outdoors. But we have been able to sneak in a few bike rides, just enough to keep the old legs limbered up a little. On Sunday we got ourselves to church and enjoyed the service. I had found a quilt shop online in Cannon Falls, about 10 miles or so from the church. What a find! I was like a kid in a candy store while Dan waited patiently in the truck. Then we drove back to Miesville for our Sunday dinner at Weiderholt's Supper Club, I had the Walleye special...

May 1, 2011 - May Day

We have been back here in Minnesota two weeks tomorrow and I bet we haven't had two nice days. The plan is not to come back this early next year. This morning we are listening to a big wind and looking at a cloudy sky. It is 37 degrees and our two ceramic heaters and heat pump are working nicely. We have not had to use our propane, instead we are using all electric heat because our rent includes electricity. So that part is good. And being able to spend Easter with family was even better. However, we are sorely missing the Texas...

Apr 27, 2011 - Nothing New

Since our busy weekend, we have been in a holding pattern, waiting for some decent weather. So far we have had one day, that was Monday. I actually got to give the dryer a rest and hang some clothes. Pete stopped by for about an hour's visit. On Tuesday we drove into So. St. Paul for Dan to do some boring banking stuff. We were going to visit my friend, Mary, but I wasn't able to get a hold of her which had me worried because of her frequent stays in the hospital due to COPD. Turns out she was getting a cataract taken care of and is doing...

Apr 24, 2011 - Easter Sunday

We all gathered back at Connie's for Easter Brunch. Jeanne and Rob had spent the night, so they were already there bustling around by the time Dan and I arrived. It looked a lot like Easter! By noon or shortly after, all had arrived, including three grandchildren who are growing up way too fast. The girls got the food out, Ham, Polish Sausage, two egg stratas made by Laurie, a fruit tart made by Connie, little poppy seed and apricot tarts made by Rob, dyed eggs, asparagus, etc., etc. It all tasted so good. The afternoon was spent enjoying...

Apr 23, 2011 - A Fun Day

Jeanne and Rob came down from Northwest Wisconsin, Laurie came from Roberts, WI and Dan and I from Red Wing, MN. We all met at Connie's house in Apple Valley for Ponczki making lessons. These are a Polish doughnut, a tradition in our family forever and one that my sister and daughters are having a tough time figuring out. In fact, last year they were Ponczki-less because the dough wouldn't rise. And that's why we made it a point to brave the cold weather, to ensure a very old family tradition was kept alive. I brought a crockpot of...

Apr 22, 2011 - The Last Two Days

The last two days have been all about staying warm. On Thursday the sun did come out for a short time and I actually got on my bike for a ride to the mailbox. But it was not bike riding weather. Dan did some prep work on the underbelly project and made a trip to Menard's. We did meet our next door neighbors just as they were packing to leave, great timing. In the "It's a Small World Department," we know of some of the same people. Hopefully, we'll run into these fellow fulltimers again during this summer, they may be back here. Today it...

Apr 20, 2011 - Snow

We saw snow for the first time in several years. Also saw our breath, it is cold up here in the North Country. Thankfully, we missed the heavier snow which happened just south of us here in Red Wing. We have been busy settling in, shopping for Easter and staying warm. We have not seen any family yet, they are all busy working. We have plans for a long weekend and lots of hugs. So nothing exciting has been happening and I wasn't going to bore anyone, but Dee said she looks for my blog every morning. So good morning, Dee, we miss you guys. It...

Apr 14, 2011 - Dinner, Goodbyes and Cart Rides

Dan spent Wednesday morning washing the truck, checking tires, etc., getting ready for our northbound trip. At 1:00 we carted over to the RV park for 93 year old Wilma’s goodbye party, she is going to assisted living in Marble Falls, and she is going reluctantly. As soon as Dan saw it was all women, he followed Eck out the door in a flash. I hitched a ride home with Jeannie, where we found the men having an early happy hour, probably happy they were sprung from the party. After supper we took a long cart ride, our last evening ride. I will...
