Nov 22, 2013 - Sharon's family

We arrived at Sharon's in time for Thanksgiving, and we are certainly thankful to have this time to spend with her and her family. Mammy and Pappy (Adam's grandparents) were gracious to include us in the family's Thanksgiving celebration - and believe me they do not lack for food! We took the boys to the movie Frozen; even though it is probably more directed to little girls, there was enough humor and excitement to make it enjoyable to them. This year we got to go to the boys' school Christmas program for the first time. Mason had a little...

The Circle Continues

Dec 19, 2012 - Christmas with Sharon's family

One of the primary reasons we took off on this adventure was to get to spend quality time with our children and grandchildren. It was such a blessing to get to spend the holidays with Adam, Sharon, Mason and Colton. In particular, I really liked going to the Christmas Eve candlelight service with them. It is something we did when the kids were little and a blessing to be able to do so with our grandkids. We also enjoyed ordinary things like listening to the boys read and going to Boy Scout meetings! Sharon and I also painted the boys...

Sep 29, 2012 - Sharon's family

We spent the month of October with Sharon, Adam, Mason and Colton. This is one of the blessings of being on the road full-time. We can afford to spend more than a weekend with our kids and grandkids! Mason and Colton are so full of energy and have such keen and imaginative minds (Do I sound like a grandma!!) We were involved in activities such as Mason's Boy Scout fishing tournament and their church's fall festival, which may seem mundane, but to us it is a blessing to get to be involved in their lives. Mason didn't catch anything at the...

Oct 19, 2011 - Gay High School Kissed a Boy; Junked From Cheer Squad

A Texas high school student, who wishes not to be identified, has been working really hard for years for the southern Texas Alice High School Cheerleading Squad. He practiced everyday, researched for new great stunts, kept a strict schedule of cheering and academic matters, and this has been his life since high school started. But because of a surveillance camera video of him kissing another boy, he was booted out from the cheering troop and is now facing a two-day suspension. The 17-year-old student's parents have agreed with the...

Come Out and Be Gay

Apr 22, 2011 - Left Texas in the Rearview mirror

Finished our trip to Texas. Not very warm!We spent two weeks in Roma at Falcon Lake. That was nice, they had beautiful birds that we've never seen before. We found a great Mexican restaurant that made killer chilles relleno's.Then we moved to Del Rio,the lake was beautiful but the wind and cold temps worked away at us,plus the fact we dry camped for two months...not going to do that again. Our next move was to San Antonio for a month and a half, but the cold followed us there as well.Next move was Austin TX as it slowly started to warm up.We...

Jan 25, 2007 - Brownsville to Galveston, TX and the Gulf of Mexico

After leaving Brownsville in temperatures 20 degrees below normal we drove north and east generally following the gulf coast and its numerous bays and other inlets. It is a mixture of massive fertile field, scrub and cactus (with cattle), and petrochemical plants by the dozens. We stayed one night in a municipal campground in a small burg (population couldn't have been more than 150). We found ourselves very cozy with the fireplace cranked up, DVD's playing, and a glass of warm brandy. The weather outside was windy, sleety - generally...

Jan 20, 2007 - Tackling Texas

After leaving our beautiful campground in Louisiana, we bumped along I 10 and into Texas where my initial experience of hugeness, first hand, was the sign that said El Paso, TX -830 miles. I know why there are all those jokes about size. The numbers of RV parks and RV dealers is like everything else here, enormous. The only thing that isn't enormous is the price of gas - that is of course, compared to back east. Here it is as low as $1.96/gallon, quite an improvement for filling the 75 gallon RV tank. Passing refineries makes me think of Al...
