Apr 14, 2019 - Sweetwater TX, Bar J Hitchin Post RV Park

It was a longer trek today, almost 290 miles from Van Horn to Sweetwater. The trip went fine. Got to see more of West Texas, an area we have not seen before. No doubt it is big! Lots of oil field and refinery related towns. As we neared Sweetwater, we saw many many many many wind turbines! I mean as far as you could see and beyond! If this was VT no doubt they would be about 10,000 years in the review and approval process ..... Bar J is just off I20 and across from a Loves travel center. Lots and lots of trucks in and out fueling. We have a...

Wyoming 2018

Jan 25, 2018 - Thursday, Sweetwater Texas

Our journey today starts at the local truck wash to get the Motorhome looking good again, then on to the gas station to feed the beast. We will be driving the back road of West Texas to take in the local flair. We drive US 84 west from Waco until we intersect with US 35 thru the back country. We see vast fields, acres and acres of land that some rancher owns. We see beef cattle and goats, goats are raised for the Mexicans to eat, they are the big buyer of goat meat. We drive thru little town like Comanche Texas, population of 4300 people...

Sep 20, 2016 - Sweet water Municipal campground

Drove another 465 miles to stay the night in Sweetwater municipal campground. No one was around when we arrived in the dark. The next morning we found out that you pay at the municipal golf course further down the road. Just fill out an envelope, put $10 in and place it in the slot in the door. We were then on our way again.

Feb 13, 2016 - Sweetwater, TX

A piece of the Polar Vortex must have dipped into the Texas panhandle last night, because the winds blew all night, and we woke up this morning to 30 degrees (wind chill in the 20’s). The winds continued throughout the drive today, but the temperatures warmed as we headed further south. We’ve gone from being along I-40 in Amarillo to being along I-20 in Sweetwater. Temps were in the 70’s when we got here, so all the windows were opened. There are few campgrounds we’ve stayed at that look better at night, and this is one of them. We are...

Oct 22, 2012 - Fort Worth, TX to Sweetwater, TX

Today we drove from Fort Worth to Sweetwater about 200 miles. Rather boring scenery. The trees have become very short. Sweetwater is know for the Annual Rattlesnake Stampede. We did stop for lunch at a DQ and Fred took a picture of me next to a HUGE can of Campbell's soup. We never did figure out the reason for the large can. Would never go to the campground again. Long story short Fred got 40 fire ant bites. Painful and the next day they were all pustules. It will be awhile before they all heal.

Day 9 Rolling Plains RV Park, Sweetwater, TX We left the park around 8:30 am with out any further problems with our reservation. And I would hope not. We stayed for only 3 nights and they had our reservation messed up 2 of the nights =( But even with the problems we thought it was a great park and really enjoyed ourselves there. We used Joe’s Navigator and made it up to I-20 pretty easily. The only problem was that after we were on the right road to I-20 the Navigator, “Gladys” kept telling us over & over again to “Make a U- turn in .6...

Mar 17, 2010 - Sweetwater Texas should be called rattle snake haven

Often the best laid plans change, sometimes for the best and then sometimes not. Since we are planners, (Donna, more then I by the way), the plan was to go to the Sweetwater Rattle Snake Roundup, then plans changed, family was driving to Abilene, that fell through, so then we were then headed to see a brother a few hours in another direction, that became a dud idea, so back to the idea of Sweetwater. Once again Donna convinced me, if we went, she didn’t have any desire to go into the ‘snake building’, I could venture alone she said, my...

Apr 24, 2008 - Sweetwater, TX - Nice drive here from Brady

(Ron Writing) Luckily we didn’t get any stormy weather at Brady last night but we did get a good night’s sleep at this quiet Wal*Mart location. We like the supercenters in these smaller towns because they do not stay open all night and as a result they are very quiet. Today we continued north from Brady on US-377 to Brownswood, TX where we got on Hwy 279 north to Cross Plains. All along this drive we saw quite a few flowers. They must have had better rain in this northern part of the hill country. From Cross Plains we headed northwest on...

Jan 11, 2008 - They call the wind #!?**#@

We finished our last murder mystery on Dec. 28th and would have started west then, but we were paid through the 11th at the RV park and with all the repairs lately, we couldn't throw that away. We had a good time keeping the grandkids over a Friday night and taking them to see the movie "Enchanted." We also got some things done around the trailer that needed to be done. Amanda and Robert had gotten us an Ipod nano for Christmas, so we spent a lot of time putting our large CD collection on the Ipod, then getting rid of all those CD's which...
