Jan 28, 2018 - Spring Branch Texas

After we left Cranes Mill on Canyon Lake, we made the grueling 17-mile trip to our next location in Spring Branch Texas. Tough life for us retirees - lol. We spent the next three weeks at Spring Branch RV Park which is about 35 miles north of San Antonio on Hwy 281. This is a cute little park which sits on land that used to belong to the owner's grandfather. He had a ranch here and one of his barns is now used as the office/common area for the park. They have a huge fenced in dog park with agility elements, a nice laundromat/entertainment...

2018 Life in our RV

May 25, 2012 - Lazy R&R Cove

Maiden voyage for our new to us Sundance 5th Wheel. Didn't realy care for the rv park. It looked like it was pretty run down. Roads in very poor condition, and trees had not been trimmed for clearance in a long time. I had to stomp down 4' weeds to get to the electric and sewer hookups. But the maiden voyage went well.

Nov 30, 2011 - A Day Trip to San Antonio

Early start – I left the trailer at 8:02 to go to San Antonio. I was early enough to see deer in the morning, but instead of the “deer in the headlights” look you get at night, they were alert and on the run. The flash of their white tail is what signaled me about their presence. One did pause when I drove by, stopping right next to a barbed wire fence. Then, it leaped over the fence – no momentum, from a stop to up and over! It was amazing; got my day off to a fantastic start. My first San Antonio destination was Sunset Memorial Park, the...

Nov 29, 2011 - Boerne has Lots of Hidden Treasures

'Tis the season for....shopping. I got my day off to a slow start; I addressed graduation announcements. That's my preferred pace for starting the day. As the day gets going, so do I. After getting bills paid, some announcements addressed and a couple of notes written, I got ready to hit the road and drive into Boerne (pronounced burn-e). You can't help but be reminded of its German heritage as you drive through the streets and see the names of the streets and the names of businesses (The Brewhaus, Schleicher Street, Ebner Street). I have...

Nov 28, 2011 - Guadalupe River State Park

I had lots of things to do before I could take off for Guadalupe River State Park, so I got up and at it... First, I had some cleaning up to do - dishes from cooking yesterday, putting away clean laundry, putting away Thanksgiving decorations and preparing the trailer for the move. Then, I went to Fredericksburg - again - to get some Christmas gifts. Drove over and found most everything I had in mind. I got some oil cloth to use as a tablecloth after the holidays. Mum, the store on Main at Washington, had a nice selection and the clerk gave...

Harrell's Happenings

Apr 30, 2011 - Goodbye, Texas

Thursday, April 28, 2011--Spring Branch Texas As many travelers, we try not to make reservations as we travel. The only exception is around major holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. This is when the “weekend warriors” come out to enjoy a few days of camping. I feel for them. Only a few days here and there to camp. We enjoy the camping life EVERY DAY! As Memorial Day is approaching, Debbie has made reservations for the month of May, so that we would have a plan, and a campsite, over the holiday. The stop before the...

Apr 27, 2011 - Projects & Workcamping

Tuesday, April 26, 2011--Spring Branch Texas We had a good day yesterday. I did get off my dead butt and completed lots of minor fixes around the camper. I got a lot more done than I expected. We had a broken hinge on a storage compartment just below the oven. This is where we keep our pots and pans so it gets a workout. A month ago Debbie went to Home Depot to try a get a new one. No luck. Seems that RV cabinet hinges are different than regular house hinges. They are too “short” and after installation, the cabinet door was off center, and...

Apr 25, 2011 - Repairs

Tuesday, April 19, 2011--Spring Branch Texas Remember the electrical breaker problem from our last post? Well, Brian, the mobile repair guy, finally stopped by yesterday and replaced the breaker. I do know that he buying a house, so maybe that was keeping him busy. The old breaker was running very hot, so hopefully this will fix the problem. He said that he found a breaker around the shop and refused any money! Good guy. Now, if we can get the tub fixed. Saturday, April 23, 2011--Spring Branch Texas I have a new “bed buddy”. Every night...

Apr 18, 2011 - Getting Older

April 15, 2011, 4:17 AM-Spring Branch Texas Yes, it is the middle of the night and I am awake. This happens now and again. I sleep for 3 or 4 hours early in the evening and wake up “ready to go.” Tonight, I slept from 9:30 to 1:00 a.m. I guess three and one half hours tonight was enough. I have already surfed all my “usual” internet sites. So here I am. Thoughts on getting “older”: Despite my disabilities, I haven’t really given any thought to growing older. I am too busy exploring this country and enjoying life in general. The past few...

Apr 13, 2011 - A Rant And Getting Ready

Friday, April 8, 2011--Spring Branch Texas START OF RANT: I don’t use this blog to rant very often, but it has gone too far!! I’m mad, and unfortunately, I have to keep on taking it. The Federal Government may shut down tonight at midnight. Won’t pay our troops and many other hard working folks. You will have to still pay your taxes, but there will be no refunds! But wait!!!! The politicians that make the decision will continue to be paid! What? It is a classic example of how “special” the politicians think they are!!! I wager that if...

Apr 7, 2011 - Dogs & Anniversary

Tuesday, April 5, 2011--Spring Branch Texas Sometimes dogs are like perpetual two year old humans. In the past, I have posted about my morning routine of drinking coffee and reading on line newspapers. I have to say that this is the best part of my day. Since getting “older,” I need much more time to wake up and get going. Part of this routine has become letting the dogs out so that Debbie can get an extra hour of sleep. This morning did not go well: 1. Got out of bed and let Maggie, the Basset, outside. 2. Started computer and made...

Mar 31, 2011 - Change Of Plans Again!

Monday, March 28, 2011--Spring Branch, Texas Just a short note before my feeble mind forgets. A recent blogger was commenting on this lifestyle to some folks that did not understand. He said: “My dogs have peed in more states than most people will see in a lifetime.” How true, and a cute way of commenting on the lifestyle. Thursday, March 31, 2011--Spring Branch Texas We are still here! Looking at the overall picture of our life, we have decided to stay in Spring Branch one more month. Our departure date now is around May 03. The owners are...
