Aug 7, 2017 - San Antonio

Aug 7, 2017, We had rain, thunder, and lightning all night long. It is not quitting so we hook up the car and disconnect the power, water, and sewer connections in the rain. Of course, the temp is over 70 so it is not cold. Don’t really care to drive in the rain but this is expected all day, and there are flash flood warnings also. Made it to Jayne and Jerry Burgess’ today. They have a lovely home and we are parked in their driveway. No power so we ran the generator for awhile this afternoon and are running it again this evening, Actually,...

Off to Indianapolis

Jul 21, 2017 - Summary

We spent last night at the I-35 RV park just north of Waco. We left Texarkana about the usual time and started our cross country trek. We don't like driving around Dallas, so we leave the interstate at Texarkana and drive US 59 to Marshall where we get on I-20 towards Dallas until we exit at US 31 around Tyler. Everything went well until we arrived in Corsicana. Luckily I was driving by then because at Corsicana we leave US 31 and drive on TX 22, which the last two times we went that way, it was fine, but this time.... Well lets just say...

May 28, 2017 - Change #3 in prep

We still have a week until we leave, but there is a lot to do. Bob wanted a desk so we had to make some changes. we removed the other recliners and added these and a desk. This frees up the dining table. Before when we were rallying and had to use our laptops, the dining table became our desk and we then had to move everything when it was time to eat. So now Bob, at least, will have a permanent place to keep his laptop. The chairs are comfortable, but not as comfortable as the other recliners, but only because they have less stuffing. They...

May 26, 2017 - Another day in San Antonio

Today was our second day in San Antonio. We decided to get up and head to the Alamo. The question was, after yesterday, what do we do with Harley? We decided to just leave him in the RV and hope for the best. I have included a couple more pictures of river walk. We took the bus to downtown and when we got to the Alamo, we found out there was going to a huge funeral for a 31 year old firefighter who had died in a 4 alarm fire. Very impressive and all the stores that fronted the Alamo were closed for the funeral. We finally went into...

May 25, 2017 - San Antonio, Texas

We left Waco and headed south to San Antonio. We got to drive though the capital of Texas, Austin. Big city with a domed capital building and lots of University of Texas buildings. Not a very picturesque town. We continued south until we reached San Antonio. City of 1.3 million people and not an RV friendly city at all! We thought we would just drive down to the Alamo and see it and then drive out to our campground-- no can do. Lots of parking lots near the Alamo, but all of them prohibited RVs even though there was lots of space. So we...

Apr 10, 2017 - San Antonio, Texas

2017-04-10. San Antonio San Antonio is a nice town but, with heavy rain predicted for several days, we only spent two nights at the KOA there. We took the bus from the stop across from the campground for the 20 minute drive to downtown. It cost $1.30 round trip so, was worth it and the bus was quite nice. Downtown, we walked to the Alamo and toured it. It is small and dwarfed by the downtown buildings. Still it is worth a pause to really "Remember the Alamo", what it stood for at the time and what it stands for today; people willing to die...

Apr 4, 2017 - The Alamo and the Riverwalk of San Antonio

Today, as planned, we rode our bikes the 5 miles to downtown San Antonio, along the Riverwalk. San Antonio has an amazing paved trail that winds its way alongside the San Antonio River, right to the heart of downtown, and the Alamo. First, Mike had talked about his time with the golf boys and really downplayed the Riverwalk. Michelle was expecting something similar to the Rideau Canal, with a few shops and restaurants thrown in. Was she surprised!!!! For Ottawa people, this is the Rideau Canal, set in the middle of Sparks Street, on...

Texas Again

Apr 3, 2017 - Finally heading North

Just a quick post, to let you know we safely made it to San Antonio. Today's drive was a little shorter, and we only had one stop, but of course we couldn't do an easy stop. We wanted to fill up with gas and took the first side street on the service road, should have been the second! At least the GPS routed us the right way, but we went through the industrial section of Laredo, which is the biggest shipping area to Mexico from the States. Lots of transport trucks and lots of trains running through here. After we finally got gas, we had to...

Texas Again

Mar 28, 2017 - San Antonio, Tx

Our first full day in San Antonio has been great. We went down to River walk. We had been here before so we did not repeat the Alamo or the restaurant on the tower. We took the boat ride on river walk and we walked the entire area. Our boat broke down and we had to be rescued by another boat. During our walk I forgot where we parked the car. We finally figured it out and got back to the RV. Our plans call for playing golf tomorrow morning. I will let everyone know how it goes. John, you should know that Jeanne cooked scallops and Pasta for...

Mar 13, 2017 - Old Friends in New Places

We stopped for the night just outside of San Antonio, as we were pleasantly surprised to hear from our friends Gene and Joann Skoropowski that they were in town. Their daughter and her 2 children are relocating from the Tampa area to San Antonio and they were all there to house hunt. We found an adequate (disappointing after last night) RV Park and then met them all at the Alamo in downtown. We enjoyed the sunshine and catching up with them as the last time we saw them was in Hawaii last June. Their grandchildren wanted to know why we kept...

Jan 10, 2017 - Overnight on the RiverWalk, San Antonio

Date: January 9-10, 2017 Starting Mileage: 5788 Ending Mileage: 6304 Total: 526 Weather: sunny, breezy Temperature: start 45º High 85º Wildlife count: Red Squirrel Year List: 100 Birds: We left Monday morning around 7:45 headed north. Breakfast at McD’s and then some birding at Delta Lake. Our advanced research on this place showed a road following around the shore of both lakes, but though we tried several places to connect to a road, and Google Map showed a road in the same location where we were, there was NO road. How weird! Arriving in...

Jan 8, 2017 - Good times with old friends

Prior to our last trip to Austin, we had made plans to meet our good friends, John and Sue, in San Antonio for a night. We stayed at the Wyndham timeshare right on the river walk. It was a little crazy getting there, since it was right downtown and we both drive big trucks. Neither of them would fit in the lot designated for the timeshare. John and Sue got there first, so asked at the front desk where we could park. After a couple of wrong directions, they finally found a lot close by. It was kind of crazy as we were texting back and forth...
