Aug 15, 2018 - Texas, Part 3

Late afternoon and it is in the 90s in downtown San Antonio. Walk down a flight of steps and the temperature drops at least 10 degrees. Beneath the trees lining the San Antonio River is the city’s RiverWalk. RiverWalk is an oasis in an urban desert. Shops and restaurants line the river as it bends through the city. Tourists and residents alike take advantage of the respite the area offers. We ate dinner at an outside table where we could see the water and watch the people walk by. We rode one of the tour boats that ply the river while a...

May 17, 2018 - San Antonio, Tx

This was our third visit to San Antonio. This time, we spent most of our time at the Pearl District which is a downtown revitalization area. The development is centered around what used to be the Pearl Brewery. The main Brewery Building has been converted to a hotel, the Emma, which has a bar and a couple of restaurants is the focal point of the development. Other buildings have been converted to restaurants, shops, etc. Condos has been added along with a hotel that is under construction. Since Beverly is a big "foodie", we had to test some...

Apr 15, 2018 - San Antonio, Elks Lodge

Checking our map, we decided on San Antonio today as our stop. We saw there was an Elks Lodge on the North West side of town with RV spaces. The scenery was pleasant with hills and wild flowers. We still had some wind, but not bad. We stopped for lunch at Coopers BBQ that we discovered in 2006. They have a large grill outside where they smoke their variety of meats. This area is called Hill Country; who ever said Texas was flat? As we approached San Antonio, we passed the University of Texas, San Antonio. Arriving at the S.A. Elks Lodge...

Spring Trip 2018

Apr 13, 2018 - San Antonio Stroll

San Antonio was a nice surprise. We stayed at a KOA in town. I expected an urban environment with tight parking spaces but we got country and big spaces. A nice campground and nice surprise. And we saw fireflies! I haven’t seen them since New Jersey. When I saw them, we were talking to another couple. They had never seen them before and were fascinated. We took the city bus into town and went to the Alamo. It is not as big as I thought is was. They did a good job preserving what they have in the middle of the city. I did not remember that...

Jan 15, 2018 - out on the road

Today we left to go to the grocery store. I wanted to try another Legion to try to get another license plate. We went out by where Cal was stationed at Lackland Air Force base and when I travel I turn off highway routes on my GPS so we can see the sites, I can't believe the housing down here and hope to take some pictures before we leave. The houses usually start as a mobile home and when that gets too small they add a plywood structure onto that. When that gets too small they add another. Pretty soon their whole lot is lean to structures....

Jan 12, 2018 - Bat caves

We decided to go check out the Natural Bridge Caverns. I wasn't sure if I would be able to go the 180 feet underground or the walk back up but decided I wanted to try. It was a challenge. It was about a mile walk and some very steep up and downs. I was glad I went as it was beautiful scenery but I was exhausted at the end.

Jan 9, 2018 - Checking out San Antonio

We went downtown to drive around today. There is a lot of construction going on so we looked around and left. We drove to 3 Legions trying to find a place for Cal to watch the game on Sunday and the 1st 2 were broken down and closed. The 3rd was open and we went in and were sitting at the bar and a lady walked in looked around and fell flat on her back just like dominoes fall. Not sure what she was on but right then Cal decided probably not his place to watch the game. Plus they had the jukebox on full blast. a lady in there was a commander...

Jan 7, 2018 - On the road again!!

We were on the road as early as 2 retirees can be and had to make several stops for gas and potty breaks for us and the dogs. We arrived in San Antonio at about 6:00. We went to get something to eat and to Walmart and home. I was so tired I couldn't even muster enough energy to walk to the shower so I fed the dogs, put groceries away and went to bed. See you in the morning!!

Oct 5, 2017 - Cleaning

I spent about 5 hours at the storage facility today. I was attempting to clean THOR! The refrigerator/freezer had a very bad odor and everything had a film of dirt on it. The floor was very gritty/dirty and had several places of some kind of adhesive on it. After spending about an hour scrubbing the refrigerator and freezer I started on the floor. At one point I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor. After scrubbing, I then used the steam mop and the floor still feels dirty. It will need another steam or two. Today I didn't even...

Oct 2, 2017 - Prepping

At this time, we are preparing for a month long journey. After the summer travel and mishaps, we turned THOR into Texas RV Supply to have everything repaired and prayed that the extended warranty would pay for some of it. The total bill amounted to almost $5000 and ext warranty paid almost $900, so we lucked out a little. However, while driving to the storage place, the camera and radio went out. I immediately turned around and went back. They looked at it and decided that some board that connects the engine battery with the house batteries...
