Mar 2, 2013 - San Angelo, TX
3/2/13, Saturday A couple hours drive brought us to San Angelo, TX, home to Goodfellow AFB. As we got nearer to San Angelo, the countryside changed to green!! AND, there was water (which we have not seen for quite awhile, at least this much)! Goodfellow AFB's RV Park is right on the shores of Nasworthy Lake. They have boat docks, boats to rent, BBQ places and great fishing. We think we will come back here for a longer stay on another trip. We talked to some local fisherman staying at the park. They had caught really nice Crappie, Catfish...

Jul 15, 2012 - On the way!!!
We're finally on the way!! We left the house approx 1245 and about 10 minutes later, Bob discovered he left his phone in the Lincoln, so we turned around to retrieve it. So officially we left San Antonio at 1:05. The further north we traveled, the darker the skies became. We exited I-10 at Junction where we filled up at $3.60/gal (guess they are really proud of their gas). We drove NE on US 83 and ran into a downpour which lasted about 20 min. In Eden, TX we turned NW on US-87 which took the rest of the way into San Angelo where we...

Jul 7, 2011 - OTRA - TX - San Angelo
7/7/11 Well, much as we like Ft. Stockton and even though we didn’t see everything we wanted to see, if we plan to get to the east coast this year, we’d best get our rears in gear so off we went by 10:10 this morning. Next stop, San Angelo. We jumped off the interstate at U.S. 67 to follow the red road and see some Texas sights. Let me tell you, this red road was basically straight as an arrow and very good driving. Oh, how I like drive west of the Mississippi. We first passed through “Mesa Land” where we saw miles of flat-topped mesas...

Jul 2, 2010 - LONG Day of Driving
We spent another LONG day driving. The day started in El Paso trying to find something worthy of stopping, but couldn't find it! We did see the International Bridge and considered stopping and crossing for like a second, but quickly laughed it off as a bad idea! We did find the greatest Mexican restuarant ever! I read about it in some books and decided to try and find it. It was located in a little neighborhood and called the "Little Diner" Apparently, Don Henley and George W. Bush have frequented the establishment on occassion. They hand...

After breakfast at Andy's, we headed to San Angelo. On I10 west the speed limit was 80mph for cars and 75mph for trucks during the day. Both have to slow down to 65mph at night. Wildflowers are everywhere. The predominant color is yellow, but white and orange and some bluebonnets are mixed in. As we drove through the Hill Country we saw goats and sheep which are raised for meat and wool. As we moved on into the Prairie Panhandle we saw winter wheat ready for harvest. The ripe, golden wheat made a pretty contrast to the green fields and the...

Apr 24, 2010 - Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, Texas
Arriving at Goodfellow AFB FamCamp, we were warmly met by fellow campers and the camp host. We picked space one and after settling in, headed to the camp hosts Cameo 5th wheel. We quickly learned this is their home-away-from-home and they stay here about three times a year. Their permanent home is not far from ours in Nevada...they are in Silver Springs, Nevada. Since we were planning on staying a few days, they advised us to go to the main office in the morning. On Saturday 24 April 2010 we called the Ford dealer to make an appointment...

Apr 17, 2010 - Exploring San Angelo on a Chilly Day
From San Angelo State Park in San Angelo, TX … Today is the 100th Anniversary of the RV. RV’s have come a long way since 1910, but isn’t it cool that it has remained such a popular means of travel. And for many it’s a way of life. I love watching documentaries about families back in the 30s and 40s who traveled in the first RVs to the National Parks to discover America. We slept in a little late this morning enjoying a day of taking it pretty easy. And I should say compared to our former lives when we were working, it’s a very easy day!...

Apr 16, 2010 - Travel to San Angelo, TX
From San Angelo State Park in San Angelo, TX … We were up by 6:00am today. We wanted to get an early start for today’s destination … San Angelo, Texas. The state park we would be staying in does not assign specific sites, and with it being a Friday, we decided it might be a good idea to get there early to secure a good one. We warmed up a couple leftover waffles and some grapefruit. Neither one of has an appetite this early in the morning, so when we leave this early, we may just start grabbing something to go that we can eat in the truck...
