Sep 21, 2015 - Texas

Back in Texas. Leaving Logan, NM this morning we pointed the RV toward Caprock Canyons State Park. We arrived at the park mid afternoon, got the RV hooked up and relaxed for a while. Then it was off to walk the canyon rim trail. The view of the red rocks reminded us of Utah and Arizona but with trees and bushes on the red rocks. On our walk we saw more grasshoppers than I have ever seen - grasshoppers and crickets everywhere. Just as we were arriving back at the campground, there was a big bison on the side of the road giving us the eye. As...

May 16, 2015 - tornadoes!

Drove through an interesting little town...Quitaque, TX (pronounced quit-a-Q). Had been a big town with a winning high school basketball team from the '60's. But...the mill closed and now the town is boarded up except the Thrift Store, a Corner Market, and not much else. The shop windows were decorated by the historical society with memorabilia, and antiques. Nearby is Capstone Canyon so we decided to go out and see it. As we entered, there were half a dozen bison with babies...very cute...part of a larger herd. We unhooked the car,...

May 20, 2012 - Palo Duro Canyon - Grand Canyon of Texas

Today rises as glorious day, cool and with mild breeze. The wonderful part is that it is the birthday of of our first born, Grandson, Owen Taylor Northcutt, born 15 years ago today...what a treat. We will call him later and let him know we are thinkig of him on this his special day. We spent today exploring the park....it is a wonder and one that all Texans should be proud of given it's history of being built during the "rebuilding time after WW II" when the CCC accomplished some marvelous things. We saw this incredibly beautiful "rainbow...

May 19, 2012 - Palo Duro Canyon

We took it easy today, 3 miles and then took a short cut because we could see the road through trails (?). All was good, Van's instincts took over and won out. Played with our "site rabbit" as we had "happy hour" and watched the sun set. Another good day.

Apr 17, 2012 - Caprock State Park, Quitaque, Texas

As we drove into Caprock Canyons, we felt like we were driving into one of the canyons of an Old West movie about the American West. The colors of the vegetation and the rocks with their deep red colors made it a beautiful drive. We had to wait awhile to get into the Visitor Center because they close for lunch - probably one of the things they have to do in order to save money on help. We decided to wander around the Visitor Center and found an overlook behind it. We saw this bison resting right below us. We decided maybe we should eat...

Our 2012 Travels

Oct 17, 2011 - Quitaque, TX - Caprock Canyon State Park

It was an easy 98 mile drive from Palo Duro Canyon State Park to Caprock Canyons State Park about three miles North of Quitaque (pronounced Kitty Quay), TX. The campsite is very large with 50 amps and water. A dump is located on the way out. We have very limited Verizon, but hopefully I will be able to get these entries posted, and there is a clear shot to the satellite for DirecTV. You can probably guess what we did Saturday & Sunday – you guessed it – football. Sadly our Gators lost their third straight. Hopefully they get it turned...
