Feb 25, 2012 - Port O'Connor, Texas
Port O'Connor, Texas is not on the way to anywhere,,,, Hwy 185 in, is the only way to get there. One way in,,, One way out! So ya gotta wantta be goin'n there!! AND we do! It's a quaint little fishing village on the East Matagorda Bay which is part of the Gulf of Mexico. We have great friends who go out of their way to make us feel welcomed when we drive in! There is so much history in the surrounding area! March 2 is Texas Independence Day! The little town of Goliad (about an hour north of Port O'Connor)plays an important role in Texas'...

Mar 3, 2011 - More From Matagorda...
February 21, 2011 Weather is absolutely wonderful for February! Days are sunny in the mid-seventies and nights in the sixties. This is great weather for being outdoors but it is just great weather to be. Even being indoors, it is great weather. Expensive heaters are now off. A/C is not yet needed. The budget is much easier to meet! I'd read about a true Texas ghost town and had to go. Images of wooden walkways, stores and businesses with wooden facades and streets of gravel and mud came to mind. We headed to Indianola with great...

February 17, 2011 Folks that like to eat need to become RVers! Seems that's all I write about and it is true. There's not a whole lot going on in many parks because they often are in remote areas. Even those in more populated areas often have their own schedule of special events to enlighten and/or entertain. Most parks have a clubhouse available for their guests to use either for reserved private functions or with an open invitation to all. Port O'Connor is a very small community that caters to the sport fisherman. During winter months...

February 9th, 2011 Torrential rains and wind averaging 35 mph make today a stay-in and watch old movies, eat popcorn and nap kind of day. A hard freeze is forecast for tonight and tomorrow night however next week we will see a warming trend and hopefully our winter will be over. Yesterday, Charlie and I traveled over 150 miles accomplishing much needed errands. There is a BOFA branch in Victoria and after finishing with them I drove to the Regional Airport to check out the SKY restaurant which has very good reviews on the Internet. The...

January 7, 2010 Hope everyone's team was victorious yesterday and all got home safe and sound after the parties... It was a great weekend for Charlie and me. Saturday saw warmer temps into the fifties and after the ice storm was greatly appreciated. Yesterday the mercury climbed close to the seventies! We know it won't last. Even in Texas it is still winter. Really the only way to escape the cold is south Florida. Problem is...it costs at least three times as much to live there from what I've researched or heard from other full timers....

Friday January 28th, 2011..and one of the prettiest days of the year thus far in south Texas. It was so beautiful, Charlie and I decided we didn't want to stay in Port O'Connor. We headed south towards Fulton/Rockport & Corpus Christi. This part of Texas is full of scraggly brush and cattle, large ranches and very few trees. Roads are straight & narrow with sparsely scattered towns littered with time gone by. I finally have become use to 70 mph speed limits on these long, lonesome roadways and get a little upset with people that go too...

Jan 26, 2011 - Port O'Connor - Week 2
1/23/11 Neighbor invited me fishing in the bogs for Reds. I really am not sure what that means, but I think we are going fishing on the other side of the marshes where Boggy Bayou meets the Matagorda Bay near the Gulf. About time to go and my lights begin to flicker on the coach. Outside, a small fire has burned through the shore connection. I quickly turned off the power and began to investigate. People make mistakes. I do not like making them. It ticks me off to make a stupid mistake, one that could have easily been avoided. The problem...

1/18/11 Although I detest snow, if the temperature is going to hover around freezing and the air is full of moisture...it might as well snow. Damp, cold drizzle especially with the Texas winds chills to the bone and stays. This morning, the park is shrouded in fog, the ground covered with mud. Fortunately I remained hitched to the TOAD and departure from Carmine will be swift. Again I am amazed at Texas' secondary roads. Two lane country roads have speed limits of 70 mph and of course no one wants to go that slow. Most of the time I can...

Nov 20, 2009 - Port O'Connor, TX
Oh my gosh, will the rain ever stop? We had a horrible storm last night, thunder, lightning, high winds and about eight inches of rain, and today it has been raining off and on...mostly on. This morning I started my laundry, balanced the checkbook and paid a couple bills. As soon as the rain let up a bit, we went out to pick up a taco, made with the big homemade tortillas! We went and sat near the beach park and fishing dock to eat. OK, so you know how bad I've been with the camera? Well, I remembered to bring my small camera and the...

Nov 19, 2009 - Port O'Connor, TX
We left Georgetown at 10:00am this morning, with Port O'Connor, TX being our destination. It's about 225 miles or a 4 1/2 hour drive. We both think that's about as far as we like to drive in any day. We were looking forward to seeing palm trees, cactus and the ocean again, and we high fived each other when we saw the first palm tree! The weather was in the 70's but cloudy. We stopped just once to fill up the RV, paid $2.69 per gallon for diesel; we grabbed some lunch and ate on the road. We arrived at Port O'Connor RV park about 3:00. We...
