Sep 21, 2018 - The Wheeler Hacienda, Pipe Creek, TX

FRIDAY Today, we decided to take back roads from Atlanta, TX to Waco, TX then pickup I-35 south to the Wheeler Hacienda west of San Antonio, TX. We stopped at Gruene, TX (pronounced Green, TX) and ate at the Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar. It is located on the east bluff above the Guadalupe River. Mark, Cindy, Pat, Ves and Tristan drove up to meet us. We had a great time and the food was great. After eating, we continued our drive to Mark and Cindy's home...the Wheeler Hacienda. It's located in the hill country west of San Antonio, TX...

2018 Travels

Oct 31, 2010 - Medina Lake TT

Drove down thru Waco and Austin and the north side of San Antonio up into some real Hill Country to Pipe Creek today. Gas at Flying J in Waco was slow as I have ever seen a pump and did not get my discount as I was not in the "RV" lane which was backed up. Gas was only $2.48 which was the only plus. Made it to Medina Lake TT after getting lost on 46 off of I35 and then coming in 1640. Olga met me at the end of 37 and guided me into the park. Lots of help getting into the spaces with all the overhanging trees. Tommy had to trim some...

Apr 23, 2010 - TTN Lake Medina (San Antonio)

This is a stop for about 5 days, to rest up, dry up and clean up! Yep, just a short little stop before jumping into out big plans for the summer, SEE Itinerary (above). We like this large preserve. Some of you will remember we were here in Dec and that we mentioned that the lake was about 70 feet below it's usual level. Now, with sooooo much rain in the last month alone the lake is only 18 feet below it's normal level. It looks very nice. We ended up just bumming around, drank coffee and lollygagged. FROM THIS POINT ON CHECK IN OFTEN AS...

Dec 10, 2009 - Medina Lake

We have been in the Preserve for a couple of days now. Weather has been nice enough to get some cleaning done. Also able to relax a little catching up on some reading and doing a little walking. Nancy is working on another baby gift. Niece has one due next summer. There are deer all over this Preserve although much smaller than Minnesota deer and of a gray color rather than the golden brown.

Smiles by the Miles

Dec 8, 2009 - To Texas

We did move out yesterday putting in a little over 400 miles ending up on the Oklahoma/Texas border for the night. Today, getting an early start, it was a light drizzle and rain showers till just north of San Antonio the sun broke out and the temp reached 60 degrees. We finally caught up with warmer weather and staying ahead of the snow! Just south of Waco, TX was a bad accident on 35 which detoured the traffic onto the frontage rd with about a 6 mile backup delaying us for about 45 minutes. After another 400+ miles we have arrived just...

Smiles by the Miles

Mar 22, 2009 - Medina Lake TT (Pipe Creek, TX)

We are back at Medina Lake Thousand Trails in Pipe Creek, TX. We were about to sit down to dinner today when we heard an unusual noise then smelled something burning. Dan walked down the road a bit then came running back for a hose. A fifth wheel about 7 sites down from us was on fire. This campground is very rustic with lots of trees and bushes. The sites are large so the RVs have a good distance between them. The flames were shooting from the roof of the trailer in minutes. The trees and bushes around the trailer were also ablaze. The...

Dan & Dee's Travels

Feb 14, 2008 - Medina Lake TTN, Feb 14 - 18

We are all members of Thousand Trails RV Parks (TTN), in fact that is how we all met at our home park at Chesapeake Bay TTN in Virginia. So it was really great to be able to use our memberships at Medina Lake TTN in the hill country of Texas. It is a beautiful Park with deer so tame that they eat carrots (and pineapple) right from your hand. The sunsets over the lake were awesome. While there we went to the cowboy capital, Bandera, TX, and had some great Tex-Mex food. We also spent a day in San Antonio. Of course we visited the Alamo, then...
