Oct 23, 2018 - Perrin for Two Days

Today we were traveling only about 150 miles so we took our time getting started. We met the shuttle bus for a ride to breakfast which was two for one and extremely good. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful with large servings. In fact all but me brought some home for later. We were so relaxed on this beautiful day that I don’t even know for sure what time we left the resort. It must have been around 2:00 PM when we arrived at Mitchel RV Resort and were soon set up side by side. Marilyn & I sat with Denny & Jackie beside their...

Oct 13, 2016 - Truck is Repaired and We are On The Road Again

The Ford Dealer called early this morning to inform me that they had a car on the way to pick me up and my truck was ready to go. The driver arrived at 10 minutes after 8:00 this morning and took me to pick up my truck. For a measly $1047.00 in ransom, I was on my way back to the RV Park with my truck running great. Marilyn had things ready to go and we rolled out of the Park and were on the way right at 9:30. After four hours and 10 minutes of driving, we arrived at Mitchell’s RV Park & Resort just east of Perrin, Texas. We selected a nice...

Apr 27, 2016 - Kerrville to Perrin

Marilyn & I started early this morning. We shared our usual coffee and then began doing those last minute chores and pulled out of the Buckhorn resort at 10 minutes after 8:00 this morning. We stopped to fuel the truck at Comanche, Texas, and then followed Texas Hwy 16 north to I-20 where we headed east for about 25 miles, where we joined Hwy 281 north. It was 1:20 in the afternoon when we pulled in at the really nice Mitchell RV Park. By 2:15 we were set up, so I left Marilyn to take her shower while I drove a couple of miles to top off...

Oct 25, 2015 - We're in Texas

It was easy to be ready to go this morning, because we left the truck & the car hooked up last night. We crept out of our Site at 10 minutes before 8:00 this morning. Of course the word “crept” is relative as the rattle bang noise of our diesel truck is difficult to hide. We stopped about 10 miles away to fill the truck with fuel, then headed down Hwy 69. That poor excuse for a highway, rattled every bone in our bodies, not to mention the other items inside the truck and the RV. I swear, we must have disappeared from sight as we dropped...

May 3, 2015 - Kerrville to Perrin

I had a terrible night with very little sleep. It was a bad case of heartburn I guess. We did share some coffee before getting started on our day of travel. We exchanged hugs with our friends, and drove away right at 9:00 AM, headed to Perrin, Texas. The wildflowers in this part of Texas are well known and many tourists come here to see the colorful show. We didn’t see many bluebells but did ooh and awe at the display of reds and yellows along the highway. We traveled Hwy 16 from Kerrville north all the way to the I-10 east toward Ft...

Apr 1, 2014 - Kerrville to Perrin

I first woke at 3:30 this morning. I tried and tried but was unable to go back to sleep. I finally crept out of bed at 4:30 and waited for daylight so I could get those few remaining chores done so we could get on the road. We had time for our usual morning coffee and were on the road right at 8:00 which was our planned time all along. I have to give Marilyn lots of kudos because she drove for five solid hours without a stop, even in the heavy traffic of the north Texas town of Stephenville. We arrived at Mitchell’s RV Park in Perrin, Texas...

Apr 1, 2012 - Kerrville to Perrin

We have arrived at Mitchells Resort & RV Park in Perrin, Texas. This is a really nice place but the Wi Fi has been terrible. It shows all of the bars on signal strength but we still get bumped off the internet and things are at a snails pace even when we are on line. I tried to get on line to correct an error in yesterday’s blog. I wrote that Mike & Sandy visited us. The truth is that Mike & Sandy are visiting us this evening. It was Mike & Leslie who spent some quality time with us night before last. Today we left Buckhorn Resort right at...

Oct 17, 2011 - Preparing for trip

I have the travel trailer "It'll Do" just about ready. We will leave on Thursday Oct. 20, 2011. It's just a short drive to Perrin from Saginaw so we should be there in about an hour and a half. I still need to get the water heater working and finish the little bit of plumbing work and then we are ready to go. I want everything working so it is just like being at home. The better I can make it for us the more we will enjoy it I’m sure. At our ages we don’t believe roughing it has to be so rough anymore. Barbara will start getting things...

Apr 4, 2011 - Turkey, Deer and Longhorn Steer

The title of this journal indicates only three of the many different animals we saw on our journey today. Besides turkey, deer, and longhorn steer, we saw armadillos, emu, horses, cattle, llamas, goats, and sheep. Of course there were dogs along the road or passing in cars, with their heads out the window, or maybe riding in the back of a pickup truck. A deer wasn’t the only thing we saw flashing past the front of our truck. A pink bucket blew across in front of us as we passed a house with children’s playground stuff in the yard. The wind...

Sep 6, 2008 - 6 Month Anniversary

From Mitchell Resort & RV Park – Perrin, TX September 6, 2008 – Six months into our fulltiming lifestyle! Yes, it has been 184 days or 26 weeks or better yet, 6 months since we started out from Oasis RV Resort in La Marque, TX on Thursday, March 6, 2008. What a journey thus far! All of it possible because of our loving and understanding children and other family members. When we first told them of the idea, they were full of encouragement from the start. Thanks Lance, April, Amy, Mom, El and all the rest. We have called 29 cities home and...

Home Sweet RV - 2008

Sep 3, 2008 - Running From Gustav's Heavy Inland Rainfall

From Mitchell Resort & RV Park – Perrin, TX The Hingsts are back on the radar. Just FYI, if you have been following the itinerary on the journal homepage you will note we have gotten off track with this move, but that is what a hurricane will do for the best laid plans of mice and men. We will however get back on track once we arrive back in La Marque for our many appointments scheduled mid to end of September. We watched The Weather Channel hours on end, changing our route agenda four or five times, even thinking at one point about...
