Oct 11, 2011 - Y'All Can Follow Me . . .

"Y'All can follow me. I got your site all picked out for ya." That's how we were greeted this afternoon at the Bar S RV Camp in Palestine, Texas. If the driving descriptions for an RV park include more than three turns, my eyes usually glaze over and I go into a trance and have to call for directions, which I did today. We had thought about staying in Jacksonville, Texas, but passed when we saw the Shady Pines RV Park that looked pretty "shady" indeed, and not in a good way. The Bar S offers WiFi which the one in Jacksonville did not....

Pretty Damn Nice!

Apr 17, 2011 - Palestine Texas

April 17 2011 Palestine Texas We hated to leave Texas but it was time to start our trip home. The weather today was great and traffic was not to bad. We elected to take the back roads for a while and ended up in Palestine Texas and the 155 RV Park. This was the first time here and what a pleasant surprise. Great parking spot and nice scenery all around. The best part it was only 20 dollars a night, including the Texas Tax. We are here for one night and leaving in the morning for Ohio. Thanks for riding along and viewing the trip...

Mar 30, 2010 - We Made It.

We left Palestine TX this morning at 8:30 and arrived in Arkansas at our daughter's at 4:30 this afternoon. Just a note to anyone going north and south on Highway 71 from Texarkana to Ft. Smith AR, the road is in rough shape. The grandsons are sleeping in the motorhome, so this is a quick entry for tonight. We have heard the grandsons play their guitars, admired grade cards...all A's, heard all of the latest sixth grade jokes and laughed til tears ran down our cheeks, watched Tanner, fourth grader, do ten written math problems all relating...

Mar 29, 2010 - Seen Along the Road

Well, well! After cleaning the hummingbird and oriole feeders, putting away the last few items in the motorhome, draining the tanks, and making the trip to town to leave the last books at the library and pay the water bill....we were on the road at 10 a.m. There were also conversations with three different neighbors. The neighbors in "back" of us, LaLa and Luis, Hispanics with no English, hugged and kissed and cried. I had typed a note in Spanish to them telling them we were leaving. I found a site that will translate English to Spanish so...

We went to visit Ron & Margaret in Johnson City Tx again. While there I help Ron work on the Alaskan Express We had to replace all the front marker lights. We found time to visit the Texas Whitehouse. LBJ's ranch. Saw his final resting place, their strange vehicles and part of the house. One veh is shown in the local river. The other had a wet bar in the back. My favorite was a beer tap at the back entrance. In Texas it is a custom to leave your rear door unlocked for visitors to enter. Dec 28, 2007 - On Our Way

Friday, December 28, 2007 Sleep did not come easily last night as the excitement for our first trip to south Texas as snowbirds was upon us. Awakening at 5:00 AM, the finishing steps readying "Dunn Gone" for the trip were completed, as was last minute packing, or rather throwing things in that we thought might be needed. The chassis battery had run down because of the GPS and other toys had been plugged in for several days. It gave us an opportunity to try the house batteries to start the engine, and it started without a hitch. It was cold,...
