Mar 28, 2010 - New Braunfels TX

Sunday was moving day for us. We left Port Aransas and headed to New Braunfels TX. Staying on the back roads is such a nice relaxing ride! We really enjoyed the wildflowers that are in bloom in the fields, and enjoyed a lunch at the Gillett, TX store. The owners were young folks who had left Victorville CA in order to raise their young family away from the SO CAL gangs which have invaded the high desert area of CA. Sad commentary on our culture, but, how wise they are to resettle. Once again, we really enjoyed our brief visit and, He really...

On today's itinerary is meeting up with very good friends of Wally's brother Brian & wife Janet, from Winnipeg, - Rudy & Sandy Froese. The Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, built along the cool, spring-fed waters of the Comal River, boasts over 3 miles (5 km) of inner tube rides, water playgrounds, water slides, and the world's first surfing machine. You may wish to check out some further...

Historic Gruene Texas; Gently resisting change since 1872. A visit to Gruene Historic District in New Braunfels was a pleasant surprise! Friends of Wally and Erna from Winnipeg (Rudy & Sandy Froese) were our gratious hosts who invited us to share a outing at the Historic Gristmill located beneath watertower with its fresh air and lush surroundings. Fabulous Ribs and Steaks with all the extras.. Yummy!! One must experience at the original river restaurant and bar, set in an authentic century-old cotton gin overlooking the scenic Guadalupe...

Dec 9, 2009 - New Braunfels, Texas

Since we found the "resort" in Mathis to be so bad we stayed only one night and left ASAP the following morning to Hill Country RV Resort in New Braunfels. It was an improvement but not what we had grown to like. While we was there we enjoyed some of the things they had to offer..... shuffleboard (inside because the weather is too cold to play outside) ..... ice cream socials and Saturday morning breakfasts. We was able to see and spend sometime with ours friends, whom to miss all of them as badly. ... Sally had is over for a super dinner...

Nov 26, 2009 - Stuffed!

Oooooh misery! We are both stuffed. We joined Devon at the Faust Hotel where Zac works for a fabulous Thanksgiving buffet dinner this afternoon. Unfortunately, Zac had to work, but we were able to eat in the "garden" area where we could visit with him while we ate. The buffet included all of the usual fare and also as usual, we ate too much. It was all very delicious. -- We want to take this opportunity to wish all of our families and friends a Happy Thanksgiving. John and I have so much to be thankful for every day. We feel so fortunate...

Nov 25, 2009 - Snake Farm

One of our favorite shows on tv these days is Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel. One episode involved Mike having to help clean cages at the Snake Farm here in New Braunfels. Well, today, we joined Zac and Devon at the Snake Farm. -- For a small fee in addition to the entrance fee, we each received a bag containing a handful of feed for the animals in the petting zoo. Oh goody. But first, we entered into the area where the snakes, turtles, iguanas, and spiders were housed in various sized cages and pens. There were several varieties of...

Nov 16, 2009 - Return to New Braunfels

Early yesterday morning, in heavy humidity, we left the beach and headed back to New Braunfels. The sun was blood red in the sky as it came up over the distant fog. The air was so heavy that it looked like fog or mist, but it was just the humidity. -- Once we were about 100 miles from the coast, all of a sudden the temperature changed, the air became cooler and the humidity was gone - or at least, more bearable. It was really a big relief to get back to cooler air. -- John watched football while I spent the afternoon on the computer and...

Nov 4, 2009 - Wurst Festival

Yesterday, John and I were able to cross yet another item off our TO DO list as we went in for an appointment with a doctor here in Texas. We want to move our primary medical providers to New Braunfels and we were able to get a recommendation from a fellow RVer here in the park. The doctor is young, new to the practice, and extremely busy and in fact, we had to wait almost two hours to see her, which was a little frustrating. -- The only thing that made the wait tolerable was that we met two lovely ladies in the waiting room: mom, Marie,...

Nov 2, 2009 - November Already

Sunday is the only day of the week that Zac and Devon have off together. Zac usually works in the evenings and the graveyard shift three times a week and Devon works a normal 9-5 day shift. So, Sunday is also the only day we get to visit with both of them. This Sunday, we all went out to an early dinner at Olive Garden. My son has never taken after his mom in the eating department, so it is surprising to find a restaurant that he actually likes, and Olive Garden fits the bill, which is nice since it is also one of our favorites. We enjoyed...

Nov 1, 2009 - Day One

We left at 8:19 this morning and drove to New Braunfels. Only took us three stops for the dogs mostly. When we arrived we headed for the river and started looking for a camp ground and found loads of them. However, we only found one that would accept dogs so we are at the L&L RV park along the river in New Braunfels. We have futilitiesties and although we will only be here one night we are mostly with a lot of winter Texans. It is very quiet here and we went down and looked at the river for a while. It really is a pretty place and the road...

Oct 31, 2009 - Kicking Back in Texas

We have been kicking back and enjoying nice weather for the past couple of days. At first, we were disappointed with our new spot and having to give up the covered patio, but the new spot with the nice big tree out front is very comfortable and we are enjoying the shade in the late mornings and early afternoons. We do get quite a bit of direct sunshine on the left side in the late afternoon, but now that the humidity has lessened, it really isn't too bad. We are especially enjoying having the front door fixed and being able to sit with the...

Oct 29, 2009 - Maintenance

It has been unbearably hot and humid these past two days and we have been suffering. It is hard to sleep even with the AC running all night. This morning, it looked like it might start raining at any time, but by noon, the clouds had moved out. The air is just so stiffling and heavy when the humidity is high and everything feels wet. I hate getting out of a shower and never being able to dry off completely. This afternoon, around 4:00, the winds starting kicking up and within an hour, the temperature dropped 15 degrees and the humidity has...
