Jan 25, 2019 - Countdown has begun!!!!

Two weeks ago today this nice couple "Tex and Eileen" stopped to look at our house. They made an offer and we countered and they accepted and even bought our golf cart and trailer. Since then we have changed the electricity over to their name, they took over our contract with Dish so we are finished with that, and this morning we all went to the water office and got the ball rolling on getting that changed over to them. The deed is signed and notarized and the money will be in our bank on Monday so we will be officially ex-winter Texans. We...

Jan 17, 2019 - What a month.....

Yes, it's been almost a month since my last post. It has been a month full of changes for sure. The weather has changed many times. We've had more rain than ever and cooler temps so we have hibernated more than usual. We had Christmas dinner with Erv and Donna and new friends Keith and Deb. And of course a few card games had to follow. A few days later Tommy and Lorene, Lila and Louis, and Fred and Irene arrived to spend a week. They stayed over in a hotel in Pharr. Denny and Jackie also returned from Illinois where they had flown to spend...

Dec 20, 2018 - Back in Texas

We made it to our winter home safe and sound. We were able to leave Pottsville at 9:30am on Friday morning when the RV serviceman finished winterizing the trailer. It was still raining so we decided not to fight the traffic on I40 and I30. We instead went to Danville and turned on hiway 80 toward Waldron. We then took hiway 59/71 to Marshall, TX where we stopped for the night. It had rained on us all day and we were both road weary. We found a Comfort Inn that looked really nice and as it turned out it had the best bed we've found in a...

Nov 2, 2018 - Day Trip - Mission, Texas

We went on a day trip on the 26th to Mission, Texas. It is about 80 miles from where we are staying in Texas. We always wanted to see Mission. We have read journals from several of our friends who always to go Mission Campgrounds for the winter. We were not disappointed, the campgrounds were beautiful, they have palms lining the streets and both campgrounds we visited had nice double – wide sites. I can see why people end of buying the sites and returning each year. We had also planned to visit the World Birding Center in Mission, we...

Oct 28, 2018 - Home in the Valley

Anxious to be at our winter home in the Rio Grande Valley, we were up at 5:30 in the morning. We shared our coffee and then began making things inside the RV ready for travel as we waited for enough daylight to hook up the RV. I was anxious enough that I didn’t wait for daylight and went outdoors where I was really surprised to see a guy across the street cooking breakfast by the light of a small lantern on the table next to his propane stove. The bacon sure smelled good. With the help of light from the power pedestals I disconnected the...

Apr 5, 2018 - Change in plans

Hello again.....I know it's been a long time between posts and I can't believe it either. But when we are in the same place and doing the same things every day, it sounds so boring to write about. However, this time I have something new to write about. We have high hopes of trading our motorhome for a cute little travel trailer that we have found in Springdale. And the sooner we can see if it can happen, the better. So, we are planning to leave here this Sunday and head to Arkansas. The weather looks favorable for us to make the trip with...

Apr 1, 2018 - Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park

Right outside the entrance to the trailer park we are staying in, is Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park. They also had a bird walk that I attended. During the walk we saw a lot of Blue Spiny Lizards. There is a brick pavilion and a brick wall that they particularly like to sun themselves on. They start out dark colored in the morning. In the afternoon as they bask in the sun they turn coppery colored and green. They are blue on the belly. I also did a night hike at Bentsen State Park. We used flashlights to scan the grass for glowing...

Mar 31, 2018 - Estero Llano State Park

We have been staying at the Bentsen Palms RV Resort in Mission Texas for Easter Weekend. At Falcon Lake State Park where we were was getting too crowded with big families for Easter, so we left town. Here is a beautiful RV park with laundry, a swimming pool and hot tub. They even have pickle ball courts (still have not played that yet) and a full woodshop/ craft room. I could stay here a lot longer! But we have things to do. We spent one morning at Estero Llano State Park and did a bird walk there. This was a former site of a cotton...

Mar 2, 2018 - Fabulous Friday

This week the weather has been just about perfect. One day of light showers but warm temperatures and the rest have been sunny and in the 80"s......YAY!!!!! Not much news to report. The biggest news is that Dan and Sandy bought a mobile home just across the street from us. It is absolutely beautiful. It is a one bedroom, one bath, with a washer and dryer and walk in shower. Oh and an electric golf cart too!!!! Included in the price!!!! Perfect for them both and they are loving it. They closed on it Tuesday morning and we helped them move in...

Feb 23, 2018 - Days are flying by.....

Again as I've said many times, the days are just flying by..... The weather has improved a lot. It got really warm last week so I turned the air conditioner on for the first time this season and....uh oh.....compressor came on but no fan......turned it off and unplugged it and waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in and turned it on and same thing happened. So needless to say, we now have a brand new air conditioner. We bought a 12,000 BTU this time and it is working great. We were lucky to find one at Sears in stock and Jackie even found...

Feb 17, 2018 - Birding in the Lower Rio Grande Valley

A side trip to check out the area some. There are so many good birding places in the area and I wanted to check them out so I can tell people about them. Yes I had to go birding to do some research for work! Next to the state park is a small nature preserve called Salineno. This is a small town of 200 people. At the end is a dirt road that ends at the Rio Grande River. A small parking area that is full of cars. People come from all over to look for birds here. Three kinds of Kingfisher plus a rare US visitor, the White Collared Seed Eater...

Jan 31, 2018 - 3 months here???

I can't believe we have already been here 3 months today. The time is flying by so fast. The weather is a lot nicer now but still not as warm as usual. But it is better than back home so we'll take it and be happy. We have been having so much fun playing games with the gang. The girls have been winning for a change. Tonight we will be playing at Erv and Donna's house as there will only be 6 of us available. Tommy and Lorene left Monday morning headed back to Arkansas and Carle and Kathleen left then too. They are headed for Haines City...
