Apr 6, 2019 - Springtime in Texas

We’ve been parked here at Llano Grande RV Resort for almost 4 months now. The longest we have stayed anywhere. It has been just the right amount of relaxing and staying active. The park is emptying out rapidly with a lot of folks already headed north. We are in no hurry to leave as we keep hearing reports of snow back home. Of course, the 90 degrees today does not make us want to stay here either. We continued to play cards, pickleball, golf, happy hours, etc. We also made a visit to Rockport, TX for a few days to see our friends, Wade and...

Feb 15, 2019 - Winter Texans

Thought I would share a few observations about this area in South Texas, but first a WOW story. As usual, whenever people/strangers gather together, you play a game of Six Degrees of Separation, right? We were at a gathering here in the park and our conversation went something like this: Where are you from? Michigan. Whereabouts in Michigan? We live at Torch Lake now but we were originally from Flint. Oh, we are too but we now live in West Branch My husband taught at Flint Southwestern HS. That’s where my wife went to school. What is his...

Jan 12, 2019 - Texas Adventures

We are now officially Winter Texans and we are working on our drawl. We are amazed how many folks down here are from Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas and a lot from Canada. Most of the folks have been coming down to this park a long time, as in 20+ years. Makes it a little hard to break into their social groups and we are meeting people but haven’t made a “connection” yet. We are playing a lot of cards and Ed is playing pickleball, ping pong, tennis and golf. He even started a Yoga class, which I think will be good for his Parkinson...

Dec 22, 2018 - Winter Texans

Howdy, y’all. We are now Winter Texans. We made it to Texas 1400 miles and 6 days after leaving San Diego. Obviously, we didn’t travel many miles a day, but it was a semi-leisurely, easy trip from California. We stopped in Yuma, AZ to visit our RV friends, Bill and Ruth for a couple of days to celebrate Bill’s birthday. After that, we stayed in a different place every night in a variety of places. From an Escapees Park in Benson, AZ, to a Walmart parking lot in Las Cruces, NM, to a RV spot in the Elks Lodge in Kerrville, TX. We stayed at a...

Mar 10, 2018 - Livestock Expo, Rio Grande Style

This weekend we drove to Mercedes Texas for the Lower Rio Grande Valley Livestock Expo. We got there just in time to catch the last half of a four hour parade. That is a lot of parade for a little town. Besides the bands and police sirens and beauty queens, there were several Riding clubs. In one of them was an amazing Freesia Stallion. He was a big black beauty with feathery feet. Gorgeous. In another group we saw a four year old riding his pony with the big horses. So cute. We had been reading about and hearing about Santa Gertrudis...

Jan 18, 2016 - Oil change and errands

Date: January 18, 2016 Weather: sunny Temperature: start 44º High 72º Wildlife count: Year List: 174 Birds: Turkey Vulture Today was an errand day. We spent 3 hours at the Payne Weslaco Chevy dealership to have our oil changed. Some warning lights appeared just as we pulled into the dealership, so several things had to be checked and adjusted. We were lucky that the extras were all covered by warranty – we were just out the hours, which we spent walking outdoors on a lovely day! Just down the road was a Super Cuts, so I got my hair cut in...
