Sep 7, 2017 - Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary

We arrived in McKinney yesterday. The kids are working from home today. So, we decided to do a little sight-seeing and get out of their hair. We found some information at a Texas Travel Center (on the interstate highway) regarding things to do in McKinney. We selected the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. Known as "The Heard", the sanctuary was founded in 1967 by Miss Bessie Heard. Her vision to preserve a place for future generations to observe nature was realized when she was 80 years old. Now there is a wildlife...

May 1, 2017 - MCD Shades

My HH/home has shades, by MCD, that allow you to look out without someone looking inside. Three of them were having issues staying adjusted, keeping tension on the upward/open movement. HH service suggested I visit the factory in McKinney TX, north of Dallas. MCD has an overnight RV parking area, which is also were they service and install shades. Within a few hours Calvin resolved the issues. As a matter of fact, he let me assist him with the repairs. Now I have the knowledge, know how and spare parts to resolve any future, if any,...

2017 RV Adventure

Nov 30, 2015 - miserable

Yesterday was the most miserable, tiring traveling day that we have had yet. We got up about 7:30am and started getting ready to leave Texarkana. It had stopped raining during the night and since we were close to I-30 I could see that the traffic was heavy. But at least it wasn't raining. Just as Jackie started to hook up the car, it started raining again. By the time we got on the road, it was pouring. We left the park in Texarkana at 9:30 and it took us 4 hours to get to McKinney, TX. That was four long, long, hours fighting traffic,...

We arrived in McKinney and set up at Shady Creek RV park near the town of Aubrey, TX. After contacting Tricia, we made plans to join her family at an Italian Restaurant. We were excited to see the family after having missed them in April when we first got on the road for the summer trip. It was great to see them, and such a surprise to see how much our grand-children have grown... whoa... slow down... you make Gramma and Grampa feel old... Emma is becoming such a beautiful young lady... Evelyn (Evie) is just full of life and her sweetness...

Travel 2014

Oct 22, 2013 - McKinney, Texas

We went to McKinney to visit with Patti and Steve and to also get some work done on our window shades. We camped two night at the MCD factory, and then moved over to a RV park when we had to make room at the factory. We ate most all of our meals at Patti and Steves house. Patti is a fantastic cook. While there Steve sold me on of his wireless printers that he bought but never used. With it we can print from our iPhones. Also when in Mckinney I had the connection to the trailer camera fixed and a CB radio installed. They also looked at the...

Jun 10, 2013 - McKinney, TX - Visiting Kelly & Katydid (Kaitlin)

I traveled solo to McKinney, TX to have new shades installed in the motorhome and visit with Kelly & Kaitlin. And to complete a few odd jobs around the house that have been saved up until our visit. I got to see Kelly play in a community league volley ball game - she did rather well. Also it's neat to be here for Father's Day. Judy will be here in a couple weeks, then on the Albuquerque, NM

Sun, 12 May: Happy Mothers Day to all... Our Sunday Drive took us 97 miles from Lindale to McKinney. McKinney is a northern suburb of Dallas and the home of MCD Innovations. We're at the MCD factory to have our MCD shades looked at and, hopefully, correctly adjusted. We love the shades but they've never been adjusted correctly since we had them installed. We're hopeful the folks at the factory can do it right. We left the Lindale Lowe's parking lot a bit after eight following a very restful nite. The traffic on nearby US 69 quieted down...

Oct 8, 2012 - McKinney, TX October 2012

We arrived in McKinney, home of our oldest daughter and newest grandchild on Thursday. The trip in from our Walmart over-night in Vernon, TX was very easy. We got set up and then drove to Tricia's to meet our new grand-son, Ethan Jude Walker and to pick up our mail. As it was a school night, we chose to stay only for a short visit. Next morning we did our laundry and made plans for that evening. We took Tricia and the children to Strikz Bowling. We all had a blast and of no surprise to me, and thus the reason I did not bowl, Cheryl was the...

Sep 24, 2012 - SW Missouri to NE Texas

This trip is the first of many trips we will take to NE Texas. We left Springfield around noon on Thursday, Sept.20 and drove up to Golden City to look at an old gas station for sale that Jim had been thinking about converting to a home for us. The weather was perfect and everyone was happy to be out enjoying it!! Eventually, we stopped in Muskogee, OK @ Mazzio's to eat dinner, where we saw this very cool Sun N Suds sign. Not retro, but still cool. By 10pm-ish, we were in McKinney and stayed at the Motel 6. The rooms was tidy and it had a...

Jul 23, 2012 - Everything is Better in Texas

We left Oklahoma this morning and crossed over the Red River into Texas just north of Denison, Texas. Just after you pass Denison on route 69 is a giant head of President Eisenhower. Apparently Ike was born in Denison. I always thought he was born in Kansas. The Eisenhower’s actually moved from York, PA to Kansas in the 1880’s where Ike’s father operated a general store. The business failed and the family moved to north Texas where Ike was born in 1890. The family moved back to Kansas in about 1892 where Ike grew up and the rest is...

Travel day today! But we didn't get in a hurry and it was noon when we departed Sun Country RV Resort. After our morning coffee together, watching the morning news and slowly gathering momentum for the day; we began our pre-launch activities. Bev prepares the cabin while I deal with disconnecting the utilities, emptying waste tanks, loading fresh water (since we won't have water hookups for a few days)taking out the trash and hooking up the CRV. Before we departed the park, we stopped by Tom & Connie's winter home to say good-bye. Tom was...
