Sep 14, 2018 - Mathis, Texas

We had another long drive today, about 300 miles. We ran into a lot of construction and rain, but all went well. We drove through Austin, Texas in the rain, it is a huge and beautiful city. It had much more traffic than expected but was still a pretty easy drive. Next, we drove through San Antonio, we thought it would be a busy traffic area for sure, it was a breeze. :-) We passed some unusual things on the drive. First, we watched a carnival pass with all sorts of equipment. I added a picture of Whacky Worm, he was adorable. :-) Next, we...

Feb 22, 2012 - Mathis/Corpus Christi, TX

We had a long day's travel of 104 miles to Mathis, Texas where we are staying at Adventure Texas RV Resort. Resort is a loose term here because this park is placed on a field with little other amenities. It is tied to an RV sales and repair facility. Upon arriving here, we discovered that their water is very salty and not recommended for drinking. They did claim it wouldn't hurt us and was safe for washing (please remember this) and showering. They handed us bottled water to use. Hmmmm! Within a half hour of setting up several of the park...

Jan 21, 2011 - Back at Lake Corpus Christi again

After four days as far south as you can get in Texas, we headed north again. The campground we had chosen for tonight did not have any spots available, so we went about 20 miles out of our way to stay at the KOA we left on Monday morning. The mud has dried up here now. Tomorrow we head off to Galveston for a week. Arrival should be about 4 pm.

Jan 16, 2011 - Texas drive - Updated Jan 16

Jan 12 Drive from Las Cruces, NM to Fort Stockton, Texas after getting the furnace to work. What a boring drive. Texas is a big state with lots of space. It’s kind of like driving through Saskatchewan, but without the towns along the way, or Northern Ontario without the trees or lakes. The campground is very busy because everyone wants to stop a five o’clock and in either direction it is another two hours until you could stop, meaning driving and setting up in the dark. No internet again for tonight. Tomorrow it’s breakfast at the café at...

Hello everyone...We finally had to leave the coast....We had a great time on Mustang Island and Corpus Christi and exploring Padre Island....There is alot to do down here. We especially enjoyed exploring on the USS Lexington. We just ran out of time on the ship, it is so big. We have met lots of interesting people too. Well as you all know, Gregg and I are not spring chickens anymore, and we are a little bit body tired. I think we have just worn ourselves out just looking at so many new things...Well we have found us a very nice RV Park on...

Chilly, but Mild...lol... We decided to head towards Corpus Christie and enjoy the ride, after finding out it is a BIG city (277,000+ population) we hit hwy 37 and headed nw. The drive down 35 was pretty at times, the weather was very nice ...no rain, light traffic.....etc. We basically had an uneventful day, but we did shop at a Super Wally world...lol. At...

Dec 8, 2009 - Mathis, Texas

After having such a great time at Alamo .... what a disappointment upon our arrival to Texas Resorts in Mathis, Texas. It was so bad we sat in the coach for about 5 minutes trying to decide if we really wanted to spend two days at this "trailer park". If the weather had been better we would have got back on the road and went on into New Braunfels. But since the rains was coming and the winds were blowing hard we decided to stay, but only one night. Lesson learned! Sorry no pictures this time, didn't want to break the camera!

Nov 9, 2009 - Day Eight and Nine

Well we have been in Mathis for the last two and a half days. I believe in the morning we will go to Corpus Christi. I didn't add anything yesterday because it is so hard to get on line here. On my air card I have on bar. this is not good. Yesterday it rained all day long and we spent most of our time reading and sleeping and loafing. Today it was up and we went into town to do laundry. This is not much of a town actually. I guess we were lucky to find a laundromat. Needless to say it had seen better days. I noticed that of all the...

Today we got up earkly and went and had breakfast in town. Then we loaded up and headed south. We drove south through San Antonio to Mathis Texas. We are staying at Corpus Christi State Park. This is a lake that supplies water to the city of Corpus Christi. This is a great State park. When I got here I laid down and took a nap. I think we will spend a couple of days here.

Feb 23, 2009 - Mathis, Texas

This afternoon we find ourselves in the small town of Mathis, Texas, population about 5000. It is located about 140 north of Harlingen and about 40 miles west of Corpus Christi. Long gone is the resort campground were we spent the past three weeks. Our campground for tonight is officially called “Adventure Texas RV Resort” and it is rated in RV Campground Reviews under that name, but if are searching for it on Mapquest, it is listed as Maximum RV. That is because it is located and operated by Maximum RV Center, a very small dealership just...

Nov 29, 2007 - Mathis Motor Inn & RV Park in Mathis, Texas

We hated to leave this morning but we are on a roll and want to get to Mission a day or so ahead of reporting to work on the 1st so we were off and rolling again. Tonight we landed at the Mathis Motor Inn & RV Park in Mathis, Texas. I can tell from just looking at the place that I'm not going to recommend it to anyone. It isn't well kept and some of the units in the park don't even have windows! But, since it is getting dark, we are stuck. We got all set up and started to watch television - this is not a place we want to go for a long...
