May 9, 2013 - May 9, 2013 -- Huntsville and Trinity, Texas

May 9, 2013 – Huntsville and Trinity, Texas This morning I went to see the lawyer. Somehow, wires got crossed and it turned out that my appointment wasn’t until next Thursday. I will be in Plano by then. We rescheduled the meeting for Tuesday of next week. I made an appointment to get the coach weighed one more time to be sure that I’ve gotten the weight under control. That will be on Wednesday. I’ll leave after that for Plano. Since I only had about half a day today for sightseeing, I went to a couple of places which are close. Huntsville...

May 8, 2013 - May 8, 2013 -- Navasota, College Station, Caldwell, Brenham and Independence, Texas

May 8, 2013 – Navasota, College Station, Caldwell, Brenham and Independence, Texas Today was a gorgeous day, and I had a beautiful drive to Navasota. Part of the drive was through the Sam Houston National Forest. The wildflowers were a riot of color. I took quite a few pictures and deleted most of them. The color just does not show up well. I kept some of them to try to give you an idea what it was like. The Indian blankets and plains coreopsis were everywhere. There were a few others, but those 2 made up the bulk of the flowers. They do...

May 7, 2013 - May 7, 2013 -- Woodville, Buna, Nederland, Beaumont and Sour Lake, Texas

May 7, 2013 – Woodville, Buna, Nederland, Beaumont and Sour Lake, Texas The Heritage Village Museum in Woodville was the 1st item on the agenda this morning. It is now owned and managed by the Tyler County Heritage Society but was established from the personal collections of Clyde Gray. He owned and operated it until his death. The Heritage Society has been operating it for some years. Many of the displays are old and tired, but there is evidence that they are updating things as they can. The time period covered is from 1860-1930. The best...

May 6, 2013 – Livingston, Texas I’ve spent today uploading posts and pictures. It has been a nice cool day so I’ve had the windows open. I have an appointment with the lawyer for Thursday to get my will taken care of. Other than that I have no obligations for the rest of the week so will do some sightseeing in the area. That’s all there is to report today. jnd

May 5, 2013 - May 5, 2013 – Victoria to Livingston, Texas

May 5, 2013 – Victoria to Livingston, Texas This morning I got on the road at 10:20. It was a beautiful day although it got windy just about the time I got close to Houston. I thought that going through Houston on Sunday would be easier than on a weekday, but I’m not so sure that was true. There was a lot of construction so traffic was backed up in several places. There were also several big events going on. There were temporary road signs telling you which exit to use if you were going to a particular event. The new camera system on the...

May 5, 2013 - Livingston, TX

Sun, 05 May: Given our wariness at driving through Houston we came upon the perfect solution—do it early on a Sunday morning! We set our alarm for "dark o'clock" and got Carpe ready to roll with alacrity. We rolled wheels out of the Katy Elks Lodge before eight and had no problem whatsoever. Once in downtown Houston we left I 10 and took US 59 north toward Livingston. A bit after nine we stopped in Clearland to top off the diesel tank. Then about twenty more miles to the Escapees Rainbow Plantation RV park. We pulled up to the...

Apr 2, 2013 - On the road again.........

March 30. Departed The Escapee Park, Livingston, Tx. after breakfast at the Care Center. We got a good breakfast under our belts and hit the road about 8:00 a.m. Drove to a park outside of Longview, Texas where Jack and Danielle were parked. Sure was good to see them again. They are getting a new truck and a bed built on the back, like ours, with a smart car to be perched on the top. This is exciting for them. Planning, dreaming, and now it is in for the paint. Wow, a few more days and they should be ready to "hit the road" also. March 31,...

Mar 28, 2013 - Rainbows End - Escapees RV Club in Livingston, TX

Thursday, March 28th – We toured the Escapees facilities and Rainbow’s End RV Park. They have a HUGE mailroom facility. Our mailing address is the Escapees mail room. We are able to request our mail and then get it wherever we may be. They have such a tremendous volume of mail coming through their mail room that they have been given their own zip code. We were given a trolley ride around the campgrounds where we saw how the park came to be and developed. We now have a better understanding of the value of being an Escapees RV Club member. We...

Mar 27, 2013 - Sleepy Valley in Mission, TX to Rainbow's End in Livingston, TX

Wednesday, March 27th – We left Sleepy Valley RV Resort in Mission, TX this morning. But not without a problem! Shonda and I decided that we would try to hook up the car in the lane in front of our site. Well, when I turned right and went as far forward as I could and then started to back up, I got to close to a water main that was sticking up about 5 feet. I started to back up and the water main put a long deep scratch on the side of our rig next to the back wheel well. I did not know this until, after a lot of help from 4 other guys and...

Not hipped on the Carnaval's Magic.................believe it had a flat bottom.......... If the rooms on this cruise are "free" we might try it again......but even $400.+ for a week doesn't interest us. Food was like "Golden Corral"...............and NOT a clean...

Hither 'N' Yon 2012

Oct 18, 2012 - Rainbows End - Livingston, TX 2012

You can't go through Texas without visiting the Escapee meca, Rainbows End in Livingston, Texas. The Escapees was started in 1978. Escapee number 10,000 was recently issued. That number is usually assigned to the 'family'. So that means there are probably at least 20,000 members. That is really something to talk about. Pretty quiet here for the couple of days we stayed. We did meet Denis, a almost daily blogger. He was playing bachelor for a time while his wife, Carol, was off visiting family. He was very generous and gave us a tour of his...
