Sep 12, 2013 - Lavon TX - Lavonia COE Campground - Lavon Lake

First stop in Texas was Lavon, just outside Dallas. We came to visit the George W. Bush Library. You could tell we were in Texas - it cost over twice as much to get into this library than Clinton's. It didn't seem like it was as big, either. This library was less political than Clinton's and that was a good thing, but it had way to much Laura Bush in it for me. She had almost as much space in the library as George did. My favorite part was the September 11th display, which was very compelling. It brought everything right back to us - me...

Retired at Last!

May 22, 2012 - Leaving Beaumont for a Busy Week at Home

Time to leave the Beaumont area. As I was packing up, Luci did another one of her disappearing tricks. I was all ready to go except for putting her in the truck. I let her out the door. Pulled the chair towards the door to ready the trailer for pulling in the big slide-out and she was gone. I looked, I called – no Luci. I walked to the maintenance yard to get my ‘Mule’ back so I could drive through the campsites and trails. Ron, a dog-lover, came to help too. Actually he is the one she came to, down a trail and behind about six campsites...

May 21, 2012 - My Last Day at Village Creek State Park

Today is my last day at Village Creek State Park. I have enjoyed the area. It has a whole different flavor from the other parts of Texas I’ve been in. It’s almost like being in Louisiana. The park is a pretty little getaway, just outside the city. The brush and trees are so thick. As Andrew put it, just imagine the pioneers when they were trying to come through the area, having to chop out a trail just to pass through. In this park, I’ve seen deer, lots of very hungry squirrels that keep raiding my bird feeder, beautiful cardinals and...

Mar 28, 2012 - Lavonnia Park

We now have new window shades and they are working just as the company suggested they would. They are much easier to operate than the old string type day/night shades and they give more flexibililty in how we handle window situations throughout various times of the day. One day while we were waiting for our work to be done at MCD, we drove over to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Like so many famous places, this one also has become somewhat of a tourist trap. But we tried to steer clear of the t-shirt shops and focus on the history and the cattle...

Nov 20, 2011 - Thanksgiving Feast Day at WRCC

I was anxious to get to WRCC for church; I have missed several weeks and am looking forward to seeing many of my friends. Today is Deacon Ordination and they have a very special group of individuals that are becoming deacons. And, today was Pastor Douglas’ first day back in the pulpit after his bout with illness. What a fine day to go to church. I took my jello salad because I thought the Thanksgiving Feast was after the morning service. But, when I got to church, I realized that the feast was tonight. Oh well, I will put the salad in the...

Nov 19, 2011 - Blessed to have such Wonderful Friends!

Today is chore day. I got up and took my laundry into Wiley. This laundry was hidden back in the downtown area. I got three loads done and went back to the campground. There, I vacuumed, mopped, straightened, and wrapped presents for a birthday celebration tonight. I found myself having to hurry when I initially thought I was going to have plenty of time and was leisurely attacking my regiment. I went with a small group of friends to celebrate November birthdays (one of which was mine). We met at Pappadeaux on Northwest Hgwy., a convenient...

Nov 18, 2011 - Reconnecting with Garland Friends

The past two days I ran more errands than I have run in the last month. I was pooped. I’ve got to get built back up. Everything I read about going to Europe for the Olympics requires walking. I went to Armstrong Elementary in Garland ISD and visited with several former colleagues. It was great seeing so many people. Then, three of us went to lunch together. When I am here, I want to make as many connections with my friends as possible; I don’t want to lose touch. Then, more errands followed by an early dinner with some more friends. We ate...

Nov 17, 2011 - My Back Feels Better, so-o-o I'm On the Run!

I rose very early, showered and got dressed. I went out to test the truck, hoping it would start after sitting all night. If it did, I planned to take it straight to my mechanic of years in Garland. If not, I guess I would have to call AAA. I called AAA. I got everything cleaned up in the trailer and started working on my sewing and Matt drove up in a very long tow-truck (the kind with the wench that pulls the vehicle up onto the truck). Matt was very helpful. He first tried to jump the truck. When he was trying to make the connection, he...

Nov 16, 2011 - Just What Else Can Go Wrong?

By noon, I was about to go stir-crazy and my 48 hours was about up, so I arranged to meet my good friend Marge for lunch. Then, the errands began. My back hadn’t felt this good in I don’t know when. So, I was anxious to get some things done. And, this time, I didn’t have to park in the Handicapped spot and try to figure out the most direct route to keep from walking. I went to the public library to visit with my librarian and volunteer friends, Bill and Lori. I went by my dry cleaners, returned several books I borrowed long ago (and now...

Nov 15, 2011 - An Entire Day of Doing Nothing

I don’t always follow doctor’s orders very well, but this time, I want my back to heal so badly, I am tending to every detail. I put my time in, doing nothing but sitting still. I watched TV (I guess I’m making up for lost time), piddled with the computer, read info about the London Olympics and places we might visit, and iced my back. In fact, I did so little I wasn’t tired and couldn’t sleep. My TV watching and Internet-surfing continued into the night.

Nov 14, 2011 - Errands Before the Doctor - Hoping for Relief

I finally got out of bed and started readying the trailer for departure. I typed up and printed a list of repairs for the trailer. Finally, I was on my way to Explorer USA. Once there, I reviewed my needed repairs and left the trailer. Then, I went into Garland to take Luci to the vet. She is going to get her shots, get a bath, and spend the night since I have to rest and ice my back after I get my epidural shot today. Then, I was on my way to my good friend Frito’s house. I have to have someone drive me home from getting my steroid...

Nov 12, 2011 - A Day in Bed Waiting for My Back Treatment

Every time I have to stop taking my naproxen for my arthritis I get night fevers because of my rheumatoid arthritis. I felt horrible all day and just rested. It is all I can do to leap down off of the steps to put Luci out. I have to hoist myself back up onto the steps to get back in. I hope when I take the trailer in for repairs that I do not have to come back to this campsite. Even putting the back jacks up as far as they would go, the trailer still isn’t level.
