May 25, 2009 - Buckhorn Creek - Lake of the Pines

Well we made it to Buckhorn Creek Park. This is a Corps of Engineer Park. It is very nice and shady. We are in Site #114. We are looking out over the lake. It was very crowded for the Memorial Day weekend. One of our kids came up with their family and enjoyed the day with us. We cooked hamburgers and hot dogs and enjoyed the sunset with them. But first let me take you back to earlier in the day when we had a fight with 4 squirrels.....well not really a fight. Gregg forgot and left the bay doors open and guess what was inside....all the bird...

Mar 31, 2009 - Alley Creek COE, Jefferson, TX

We made excellent time from Toledo Bend yesterday and arrived at Alley Creek COE park about 20 miles outside of Jefferson, TX on Lake O' the Pines. Since I had made the reservation on line, they were waiting for us at the gate and all we had to do was get the map and drive right to our spot. What a beautiful one it is! We are out on a point, backed right up to the lake. Space #224 is marked in our log as one of the best camping spots we have been to. In fact we like this Piney Woods area of Texas so much, we plan to spend a lot of time here...

Aug 6, 2008 - How big is Texas??

Just how big is this State? It's massive. All I can say is that it goes on forever....... We left Amarillo TX at 5:30 am in the dark and arrived here in Gladewater, TX (The Antiquing capital of East Texas) at 4:00 pm only stopping along the way for gas. And guess what? We still have 59 miles to go tomorrow morning before reaching the Louisiana State line. The trip today was very interesting, passing through dozens of small towns We are extremely happy with our progress, I know this has been quite a sprint but we would rather spend our time...
