Nov 9, 2014 - November 9, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas

November 9, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas I spent today doing laundry and getting organized to leave in the morning. I spent most of the afternoon sitting outside and reading. It was a gorgeous day with temps in the low 80’s. I’m enjoying this weather while I can. The big storm which is already hitting the northern states with lots of snow is supposed to move south. It is supposed to snow as far south as Kansas City, and it is supposed to get cold here by Wednesday. Daytime highs will only be in the low 50’s and high...

Nov 8, 2014 - November 8, 2014 – Victoria, Goliad, Berclair, Beeville, Mathis and Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas

November 8, 2014 – Victoria, Goliad, Berclair, Beeville, Mathis and Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas I set off early this morning for Victoria. I stopped in Goliad to look at a park there. I like the name – Angels in Goliad. It would be okay for an overnight or a week or so, but it isn’t what I’m looking for. In Victoria, I looked at Dad’s RV Park and while it is nice, it is right next to a railroad track so it’s out. I found the historic trail and spent an hour or so following it around town. Victoria is a nice town. I...

Nov 7, 2014 - November 7, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park – Mathis, Texas

November 7, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park – Mathis, Texas Well, it rained all night again, or mostly. When I woke up at 6:30, it wasn’t raining but within about 10 minutes it was raining again as I drifted back asleep. At 7:30, when I got it was still raining. When I looked at the weather map, it looked like it might clear out around here about noon. After it stopped raining, I decided to look at the 2 parks which are located in Mathis near the state park I’m staying in. One of them was right on the bank of the Nueces River. It...

Nov 6, 2014 - November 6, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis, Texas

November 6, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park – Mathis, Texas It rained all night and has rained all day. It was supposed to stop by 11 and that was moved to 3 which was later moved to 5 and is now predicted to stop by 1 a.m. I’m not counting on it. I’m glad that I went ahead and looked at parks yesterday when it was supposed to rain all day but didn’t. If I had relied on the weather forecast, I would have waited until today and would have been up a creek as I wouldn’t have tried to go today. I spent the day doing a few chores and got...

Nov 5, 2014 - November 5, 2014 – Sinton, Fulton, Rockport, Aransas Pass and Corpus Christi, Texas

November 5, 2014 – Sinton, Fulton, Rockport, Aransas Pass and Corpus Christi, Texas It did rain during the night, but by 10, it had cleared up a little so I decided to go look at parks today. I visited Fulton and Rockport this morning. None of those parks were what I was looking for. I also went to one park in Corpus which was also a no go. However, one of the parks in Aransas Pass is just exactly what I’m looking for. It is cheaper than were I am now and much nicer. It is closer to the Gulf than I had wanted, but it is far enough away from...

Nov 4, 2014 - November 4, 2014 – Tivoli, Port O’Connor, Indianola, Port Lavaca and Edna, Texas

November 4, 2014 – Tivoli, Port O’Connor, Indianola, Port Lavaca and Edna, Texas It was another day of exploring potential RV parks. The 1st one I visited in Tivoli did not have propane delivery so that put it out of the running right away. I saw 2 parks in Port O’Connor and drove by a couple of others which weren’t worth going into. The one which had all 10 star reviews looked pretty ratty to me. There were lots of old, ratty looking trailers and weeds growing everywhere so it was a no go. However, the other one was one of the cleanest,...

Nov 3, 2014 - November 3, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Riviera and Sinton, Texas

November 3, 2014 – Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Riviera and Sinton, Texas I spent this morning getting organized to go looking at potential parks for next winter. I finally got out of here about 1. I took the back roads to Riviera. This is cotton country, and there were several fields which had already been harvested. While western Kansas and Oklahoma are supposed to be flat, they have nothing on this part of the country. It is flat, flat, flat, and you can see for miles. The park outside of Riviera is a really nice one, but there is no...

Nov 2, 2014 - November 2, 2014 – Livingston to Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis,Texas

November 2, 2014 – Livingston to Lake Corpus Christi State Park, Mathis,Texas I got a relatively early start this morning by about 8:30. It was a pleasant day for a drive, and I made it through Houston before traffic began to build too much. There was an air show, the Cowboys were playing at home and a gun show so there was a fair amount of traffic. However, I was through town before any of them started so I missed most of the traffic. I got here to the park at 3 and was able to select a spot. I found a good one, but I couldn’t get leveled...

Feb 19, 2014 - Corpus Christi Area

I think Willis and I are feeling that springtime “pull of the road” already and it isn’t even officially the end of winter yet! The rest of the country is still too cold to head north this early, so instead let’s take a local little trip to tide us over for now. Off we headed in Mongo to enjoy some time out of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). Once out of the RGV we stopped for a visit with some friends, Ronny and Andrea, who live just outside of Corpus Christi so we could catch up on what they have been doing since last we saw them. We had a...
