Oct 21, 2017 - DAR Bus Tour to La Grange

This morning I was up a lot earlier than usual because I had to meet our tour bus by 8:30. Since I’m still getting used to different departure times and routes from Lone Star to various destinations, I thought I’d better allow extra time. I made it with plenty of time. We were on our way by nine o’clock. My seat mate was Dianne Taylor. We had a good visit. La Grange is billed as the “Cradle of Czech Immigration to Texas” because there was such a large influx of immigrants to that area in the mid-1800s from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire...

Jan 19, 2017 - Cen-Tex Campout at La Grange

Cen-Tex Campout at La Grange THURSDAY This morning I was up early because I needed to get Daisy’s oil changed and get her annual inspection done. I was at Jiffy Lube by 8:30. The inspector was scheduled to arrive by 9:00 but he was nowhere to be found. Finally, the Jiffy Lube supervisor called him around 9:30 and he told her that he would be there in about an hour and a half. Of course, I didn’t want to wait that long, so the supervisor referred me to an inspection station just down the street. All was well until the inspector said that he...

Jan 21, 2016 - Cen-Tex Campout at La Grange

THURSDAY There were two errands that I needed to run before heading for La Grange today. First, I had Daisy inspected at Jiffy Lube; she received a good bill of health. I mailed my application for renewal of my registration from there. Then I went to Discount Tires to have valve extenders installed on the inside dual tires. The extenders had to be special ordered but they didn’t charge me for them. I had fully expected to pay so I was greatly surprised by the gift. Discount Tires certainly has my vote of approval. I arrived at the RV park...

Jan 16, 2014 - Cen-Tex Campout at La Grange

THURSDAY This morning I stopped at Discount Tires to have my tire pressure checked. They all were down only about five pounds since I last checked them. I like running them with 80 psi. A little incident there was annoying but not really serious, but it wasn’t the best start to my day. A trailer loaded with pipes and large boards was parked in front of the air pressure station, so the employee asked me to park parallel to the trailer; his hose was long enough that he would be able to air my tires. Just as I was about to leave, a woman...

Going West 2014

Jan 17, 2013 - Cen-Tex Campout at La Grange

THURDAY By ten o’clock this morning I was on my way to La Grange to meet up with my Cen-Tex RV pals for our first campout of the year. The weather is predicted to be nice through the week end. This time we had only a dozen participants. I guess the recent cold weather discouraged some of the others. FRIDAY Today I had lunch with Annette Dean, Ann Poole and Jeanette Lowell at Bistro 108 just off the town square. It was warm enough for us to eat outside on the patio, where we sat in the sunshine and out of the wind (which was just a gentle...

Jan 19, 2012 - Cen-Tex LoW Campout at La Grange

THURSDAY This morning I stopped at Discount Tires to have them check the tire pressure. Two of them had lost quite a bit of air since last month. I had to wait quite a long time before they could finish. They re-balanced the two tires. They told me that I need to have the extensions replaced. They don’t sell them but said that they could install them for me. It was 12:30 by the time I left the tire store but I didn’t take time to eat lunch. I ate a little snack after arriving at the RV park in La Grange. Tonight we had our usual bountiful...

Don't wake me up

Jan 27, 2011 - Cen-Tex LoW Campout at La Grange

THURSDAY This morning I was on the road a little before 11:00. On the way out of town I stopped in Del Valley to feed Daisy. I arrived at the campground in La Grange around 12:45. The weather was very nice. After getting set up, Jan and I went to the nearby Subway for lunch; we had arrived at the same time. Tonight we had our usual abundant potluck dinner. We were very pleased to have three visitors: Nancy Riley (a neighbor in Austin), Charlie Rose from San Antonio and Leo Mullward from Lichfield, Staffordshire, England. STATS Route: TX 71...

Mar 19, 2010 - La Grange, TX

/// Friday - March 19, 2010 A Travel Day: We had an overnight low temperature of 65 degrees. We were up a little earlier than usual in preperation of leaving the Pioneer RV Resort. The departure routine went without any issues. By 9:00 AM we were on our way to the ferry crossing. Our good friends, Danny & Linda right behind us. We had a short 15 minute wait at the ferry and we were the first rig loaded onto our ferry. Yoda seemed to be very interested in this exciting new adventure. After our crossing we pulled off the to the roadside to...
