Jul 30, 2019 - Texas to New York via LA, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, PA

We finished off our (first) trip to Texas with a BANG. After all, as most of you know (since y’all took the time and effort to congratulate me) 25 July was my 75th birthday anniversary. My daughters went all out with gifts, including a laptop to replace the broken one I’ve been using on the road for over three years, new Levi jackets to replace the one I bought in Alaska in 2009 that is beginning to wear a bit thin and upsetting my spouse, a new pair of very comfortable shoes and numerous other goodies. The crowning point was the TWO trips...

Jason is the "older" brother of a set of twins, my first grandson and works as a supervisor at UPS. His wife, Fernanda is a beautiful girl who works as a Mechanical Engineer. Both now work in/around Houston, Texas. God Bless You Both

Jul 15, 2019 - Katy, Texas

Our first day in Katy, Texas (near Houston), we were blessed with a light dinner at Kimi & John’s home (#2 daughter and son-in-law, our landlords for a few days) with all three Texas daughters and two granddaughters in attendance. Granddaughter Shelby made a Chocolate Cream Pie for me from scratch. I am the “King” of the Chocolate Cream Pie making and I don’t even make it from scratch. She did good. I forgot what it is like to try and keep up with different conversations between numerous females. Since John crapped out on me and left me to...

Jan 8, 2017 - The long pants are away, it is short pants time!

We have our morning routine down well: laze about, eat the hotel breakfast, load the bus and we are off. Today was no exception, we were on the road bright and early, aiming for Houston so, hopefully, the RV store can look at the house electronics first thing Monday morning. On Mike’s theme songs note, Michelle was worried, he was whistling the theme for Sesame Street as we packed up! But nothing more came out until Cecila, LA and then she was breaking his heart. When in Texas, we were ‘Deep in the heart of Texas’, but that was pretty much...

Texas Again

Nov 11, 2016 - Katy, Texas

Visit to Texas – “Da Plan” was to stay in an RV Park in Houston, Texas for one week, drop the RV off at Russell’s place for some fixin up, move in with daughter #2 (she and her husband just bought a new house and we have to “bless” it), have Thanksgiving dinner with family, a couple of days later pick up the RV and then hit the road for California. So, “Howdy from Katy, Texas” (small town outside of Houston). We came here to spend time with our kids, but they sent us to Galveston for a couple of days where we got to enjoy a great condo on...

2016 Travels

May 12, 2016 - Houston - Johnson Space Center

We left New Orleans on 12th for Katy, Texas which was a little over 370 miles. Had to make it thru Houston rush hour traffic to get to the west side of Houston, but, all in all not too bad. On the 13th, we ventured down to see the Johnson Space Center along with about a million or so (as it seemed) school kids. It made for an interesting day to see the inner workings of the space program. Johnson Space Center With a population of 7 million in the Houston area, traffic is a bit of a challenge. Since we are headed west, we chose a campground...

Sep 25, 2014 - Car Inspection

No Stops - no pictures. I drove straight through to Katy, Texas and arrived in time to go to a state authorized inspection station to get this year's sticker. I knew I would pass with flying colors because anything that could have been wrong was fixed in Knoxville! I did a load of laundry and cleaned some of the crap out the car. I am going to Buda, Texas tomorrow to visit Gwen and Dale for a couple of days. Really looking forward to seeing my old Buckhorn friends.

May 4, 2013 - Katy, TX

Sat, 04 May: Rolling wheels again... We left the San Antonio Elks Lodge a bit after eight and got on I 10 for the trip through San Antonio. Due to excellent planning on our part, it was Saturday morning, traffic was lite, and the aggravation minimal. Once east of town we stopped at a Flying J truck stop and added 70 gallons of diesel to Carpe's tank. Again, given it was Saturday morning we were in and out in fifteen minutes. We sure love those big fat truck stop nozzles. Back on the road toward Houston. Bob assumed driving duties about half...

2013 Travels

Mar 6, 2013 - On our way to a night at WalMart

Susan and I are on our way to Lake Charles Louisiana where I am going to compete in the Bayou Blast put on by the Up the Creek Gang. This will be the first time that the 5th wheel has been out on a trip since we got back from our Fall Colors tour. In fact, it has spent most of its time at Explore RV where we bought it having all the little problems we discovered on the big trip getting fixed. We almost picked it up in late January, but it turned out that the trailer still had problems that kept them working on it. But they were true to...

Jun 10, 2012 - Happy Birthday, Ryan!

Ryan turned 14 today!!! Happy Birthday, Buddy! His one request was that we stop at a Wal-Mart along the way so he could buy something for himself for his birthday! We happily accommodated him! We hit some VERY hard rain early today and drove through what we believe was a mini tornado! The wind was swirling the rain around us and it all seemed very eerie. Driving was very slow for quite a while! We camped for the night just west of Houston in Katy, Texas. There we spent a wonderful evening with our good friends, the Geigers. Russell went to...

May 14, 2012 - To Katy Camping World

This morning I was up much earlier than my body wanted to be but I had a rather long drive ahead of me. First, I stopped at Discount Tires to have my tires checked. All but one were still at 80 psi and it was only two pounds lower. Yea! My new valve stem extenders are working well. It was about 10:30 when I arrived at Camping World in Katy. My appointment was at 1:00 but I went ahead and checked in. I was hoping that they could take of more of my jobs today and, sure enough, they started on them right away. They installed the Hott Rod in my...

Jul 1, 2009 - El Paso, TX - Katy, TX

A very long run across west TX. We had originally decided to stop at San Antonio but the road was so good (TX has the best roads in the US by far) and we felt OK so we ran another ~2 hours after stopping for dinner. Today we ran 603 miles in 12 hours, 3 minutes. Not quite a record for this trailer (622 miles) but a very long day none the less. We spent the night at a Flying-J truck stop in Katy, a suberb ~ 30 miles west of the center of Houston, TX. They say it takes forever to cross west TX and that is true. It is HUGE open country but it...
