Mar 2, 2014 - Westward Ho!

Friday morning, we were greeted by sunshine as we packed up and said goodbye to our winter Texas friends. We also said goodbye to the pelicans and dolphins as we left the Gulf behind. We had an easy three hour trip to Seguin, although we did lose the sunshine fairly early in our trip. -- The ducks and geese were waiting to greet us at the River Shade RV Park where we stay in Seguin. The trees are bare this time of year, but our spot on the Guadalupe River is still beautiful. I was wondering if there would be baby geese but our neighbor,...

Feb 1, 2014 - Junction, TX

We arrived in Junction, TX and stayed at Junction N. Llano River RV Park, one of our favorites. This is the third year in a row staying here. Love the managers, Joe & Sharon. It happens to have the best BBQ place we have found in Texas. A place called Lum's! Their ribs and beef brisket are outstanding and we highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through. The day we arrived it was 79 degrees and the next day, Super Bowl Sunday, in the 30's. They said this is the way their winter has gone. One or two really nice days, then...

Jun 9, 2013 - Junction

Today we drove through Houston, what a difference a weekend makes. We were in a constant flow of traffic, but it moved! We were hit by a pretty good stretch of rain, there were very dark clouds ahead of us and i was wishing we had the local radio station on as I can see how a traveller could drive unknowingly into a tornado. We did hear the local weather the night before and knew there were no forecasts of severe weather though. We drove through the very scenic hill country - it starts north of San Antonio and is spectacular. We are staying...

May 1, 2013 - Travel day - Junction, Texas

A great travel day - arrived in Junction at the Junction North Llano River RV Park, our normal stopping place when leaving San Antonio heading west on IH-10. It was nice seeing our friends, Sharon and Joe. They are the managers of the park and they do a wonderful job. We had no wind or rain while on the road but Joe came to our site to let us know a storm was arriving around 7PM and he was right. Around 7PM the temps went from 90's to 70's in about an hour due to the cold front with the storm. That was a good rain for them - they needed...

Feb 9, 2013 - Junction, TX-2

One of the best things about Junction, Texas is Lum's BBQ. They smoke the best pork ribs and beef brisket we have had. If you are driving through this part of Texas, it is well worth your time and money to stop here to eat. It is on the main street going into Junction. You won't be disappointed. We took off today and headed to Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg. It is the largest working wildflower farm in the nation. Acres of wildflowers are grown on the farm for seed production and they say are spectacular when they are in bloom (generally...

Feb 7, 2013 - Junction, TX

Beautiful morning to head out. Clear and I do mean clear, blue skies. We are off to Junction, Texas where we are staying at N. Llano River RV Park. We discovered this park last year and said we would be back. The park sits on the North Llano River and use to be a KOA. This is a sister park to the one in Ft. Stockton so we were given another 20% discount. We are planning on staying a week and seeing the sights from here. There are two families of ducks here that the park "houses" So every morning 7 white ducks and 5 black ducks waddle to the...

Jan 8, 2013 - Rose Bowl trip

Today was a heavy travel day. We left Anthony, TX (El Paso area) this morning and got to our stop at Junction, TX around 5 o'clock. We don't normally travel for that many hours, but there is no decent place to stop between Fort Stockton and Junction. Just lots and lots of highway. We did, however, see snow along side I-10 from Ozona to Junction. We also had rain the last couple hours of travel. It was a very grey day and we're ready for some sunshine. Tomorrow we'll arrive at Lake Conroe KOA in Montgomery, TX for the South Texas Renegades...

Nov 13, 2012 - Two Overnighters Through West Texas

We crossed into Texas yesterday staying overnight in a Van Horn KOA. Then we drove nearly six hours today and we're still in west Texas, making it to Junction, about two hours northwest of San Antonio after a brief stop in Fort Stockton for lunch and fuel. Tonight we're doing another overnighter at the Junction North Llano River RV Park. As the name implies, it sits on the Llano River, only there's one problem...no water in it. I guess it's been very dry in Texas. But the park is nice. It felt good to just walk around after our long...

Oct 12, 2012 - Back to the Heat and Humidity

We left Amarillo very early on Thursday morning, mostly due to a change in the weather predicted by the weather guessers. They said there would be strong winds and even the possibility of a tornado by Thursday night. Time to head south for sure! Tom and Nancy said it had snowed in Flagstaff. -- We put in a long day yesterday, around 260 miles, just to get as far south as we could in one day. As anyone who follows us knows, we are not inclined to put in more than 200 miles in any given day and hate not getting into camp until afternoon. We...
