May 28, 2019 - New Mexico to Texas

The hotel we stayed at last night had a restaurant attached and offered us free breakfast so we went over had eggs, hashbrowns and bacon, as we were walking over to restaurant Buddy found a dollar on the ground now we can make it home, ha ha, we checked out and got on I-10 at 8:00 and it was 61 degrees. I-10 is kind of boring out this way just lots of nothing to look at, as we crossed into Texas there was another Truck weigh station and we had to go through it, they had a border cop out with a dog going back and forth by vehicles going...

Summer 2019

Feb 6, 2019 - Junction, TX

Traveling I-10 to Junction, TX and stayed at N. Llano River RV Park. My oh my has this park gone down hill. Weeds and junk everywhere. We drove over to the newer park on the S. Llano River and it was worse. Old broken down RV's and it looked like the river had flooded the campground at some point and the roads were nearly impassable. All the cabins had been moved from N. Llano park to here and not maintained. Really sad to see after the managers, we came to know, put so much time and effort into making both these parks a great place to...

Winter2019

Dec 30, 2018 - Junction, TX

Goodbye to Houston! We had a nice Christmas and will see everyone again in April when we come through again on our way back to Connecticut. It was strange to get back on the road for some 6 hour travel-days after our short little jaunts of wandering around Texas. It was tiring and we had to break into our travel routine again. We do love our trips across western Texas! We left Houston on a Sunday morning, which is really good scheduling. We were rolling at 8:30 AM which is not all that early in the day, but being Sunday we encountered...

Wyoming 2018

Feb 19, 2018 - Junction, TX

Because of all the rain that had fallen in the area, we chose a more direct route US 277 instead of going through the countryside like we like to do. Texas backroads flood very easily and we decided not to get caught in water over the road. We arrived in Junction and stayed at N Llano River RV Park for 4 nights. We discovered that the managers of the park, Joe & Sharon were no longer there and the park was not in as good of shape as when Joe was in charge. We did visit Lum's restaurant and the Donut Palace and neither was disappointing....

Winter 2018

Dec 27, 2017 - Junction, TX

We had an uneventful ride to Junction. It was a full day, 300+ miles, and it felt like a long day in the truck. Tomorrow will be the same. We had our eye on the thermometer, the sky, and the road. Thermometer was hovering around 33-34 degrees. Sky was solid white low overcast. But the roads were dry. Whew. Very cold overnight. Thirty-three when we got here and breezy, and colder overnight. We were thoroughly chilled all evening, and it was hard to get warm even in bed. We eventually did get warm and slept OK, thanks to all the blankets....

Sep 3, 2017 - Leaving Houston and the immediate reroute

Ready to start our month long trip heading first to Odessa/Midland to see Bobby and family. Only 15 minutes into our trip, Nicole called to tell us that there was closures on I10 West due to an evacuation from flooding. Our printed and highlighted map was no longer working for this day. Had to scramble to find an alternate route. Though not planned, 290 became our new route. Bob driving the 5th wheel and me as the nervous navigator; we had to find our way out of flood devastated Houston, and we did!! Just a rest stop for tonight. Due to...

May 27, 2017 - Fredericksburg, Texas and beyond

Today we got up and decided to head out across West Texas. We had read about a town about 60 miles from San Antonio called Fredericksburg. It is an old German town dating back to the mid 1800's. It is now a quaint old town that is the center of a robust wine industry and lots of peach groves. It became popular during the term of LBJ and was the location of his Texas white house. It was a leisurely drive and on the way into town we found a peach stand that had parking for RVs and so we stopped and got some peaches. They had just begun to...
