Feb 21, 2013 - LBJ Boyhood Home
Feb. 18 thru Feb. 20 G and I are working a different schedule this week as we are taking off for east Texas on Thursday. Just as we were feeling comfortable at the Ranch, we have been assigned to the Boyhood Home. Actually, it is time to train for that. So, instead of waking up and scooting down the pasture road to the Texas White House, we get in the car and drive for 20 minutes to Johnson City. It really confuses some visitors that there are three LBJ visitor centers so close together. One is in town; one is on a state park and the other...

Feb 13, 2013 - Working at LBJ's ranch
Feb. 13 thru Feb.16 No more training for us! We are now officially volunteer park interpreters. We are assigned a slot in the rotation with the first person being TW1 (affectionately called twit one) thru TW6 if there are six of us. G and I so far have the numbers farther down the list. Twit 1 gets to open the Texas White House; twit 2 gets to open the birth home and the school. We have done both of those but only on a practice basis. Maybe next week, we will be trusted to do it on our own. Let me describe our work day at LBJ’s ranch. We...

Feb 4, 2013 - LBJ's Ranch
Feb. 4 thru Feb. 9, 2013 We arrived in Johnson City today to check in at the LBJ Visitor Center for our duty assignment and our RV site location. It was really disorganized. Only the volunteer coordinator (he is a full time employee) knew we were coming and he failed to tell anyone else so our orientation was less than smooth. In fact, I’m not quite sure what we have walked into. The first thing the volunteer coordinator told us was the story of the prior VC’s leaving. He then explained to us that he didn’t want this job, doesn’t like this...

This was a very large museum and I want to share so many photos. So I have broken the photos into sub-directories. So you will notice a few postings for this event. Hope you enjoy them as we both did. We were there for about 4 hours and still we were not finished. It was a fantastic museum. I found it very interesting as my Dad served in this war during WW2. If you plan on visiting plan an entire day just for the museum. Although the Second World War saw a great alliance of 26 nations stand against the Axis Powers, the war against Japan in...

This was really a neat place to visit. We got a tour of LBJ's home. It is just an ordinary home, nothing fancy as one would think that a president lived in. It was decorated in the typical 1960's colors (yellow) being the main color. No photos were allowed while in the home. Almost every room had three TV sets so the president could monitor the main news networks at all time from anywhere in the home. He also had 71 phone lines throughout the house. One being right beside his seat at the dinner table, which Ladybird was not happy about. But...

Jan 14, 2012 - Benini Sculpture Ranch Johnson City Texas Part 1
January 14 2012 Benini Sculpture Ranch I took quite a few pictures so there will be at least 4 parts to this same entry on the ranch. Sorry for the inconvenience, but the pictures tell the whole story. Texas Ranchers have been using their land for Cattle, Bison, Goats, Sheep and exotic game, but today I saw another type of rancher. A place that raises monuments of steel, concrete, stone, glass paint and fabric, and it is called the Benini Sculpture Ranch. After you go through the gate, it is about a mile to the Gallery. This distance was...

Jan 14, 2012 - Benini Sculpture Ranch Johnson City Texas Part 2
Sculpture Ranch January 14 2012 This is part two of the ranch. For more information please click HERE Before I started taking photographs, I asked Mr Benini if it was okay to take pictures of his work. He said it was okay to take pictures, but I was not allowed to leave the building with them. I had to think about that for a second but there was some old artist humor in his words. Very nice Gentleman Have a great week Rick, Nancy, Bandit and Belle

Jan 11, 2012 - Johnson City Texas Backroads Part 3
January 11 2012 Johnson City TX I did not realize how many pixels the pictures for this trip were. Sorry for the inconvenience in asking you to visit the 3 trip journals for the same trip. The software limits my uploads to about 100 megs of data. At the end of a complete trip journal all of the pictures, in their original format, can be downloaded onto a DVD for my files. The software compresses the originals so that visitors can easily download the journals at a quick pace. We hope you enjoyed the tour of the Johnson City...
