Feb 1, 2014 - SKP Lone Star Corral, Hondo, TX

On Friday, the 31st of Jan we traveled the required 207 miles north and west to Hondo. It's a famous western cowboy and Texas town, of which several books have been written and at least one movie. Roughly 50 miles West of San Antonio on Hwy 90, this spot puts us in good striking distance to our next stop of Del Rio. The Escapees RV Club has a Co-op park here, just off the hwy but we've never stopped here, though we've zipped by several times. While in Rockport with friends, Jim and Shirley, the ladies got to talking about fish as pets,...

Aug 5, 2013 - Lone Star Corral

August 2, 2013 We left The Ranch and drove down US 285 to Pecos, TX. We stopped at the Escapee park, TRAPark. Our friends Jim and Brandy were there as managers and Russell pulled in after we did. He will be work camping there. We stayed one night and then headed down US 285 to join US 90 which we took all the way to D'Hanis. Sue drove the entire way from Colorado. She would not let me drive because my O2 level was still slightly low (That's her story. I think she just wanted the opportunity to drive the big truck.) August 3, 2013 Arrived...

Apr 25, 2013 - Hondo, TX

Thu, 25 Apr: We had a very restful nite boondocking a bit south if I 10 on TX 290. It was very isolated and there was virtually no noise or light to disturb us. Regrettably, Bob didn't feel well and didn't sleep as well as he would have. He thinks he has some sort of stomach "bug". We've moved into the Central time zone so dawn didn't break until well after seven. Add to that the fact that it was quite overcast we stayed in bed a bit later than usual. Once awake we made tea and then breakfast. Bob was still feeling pretty "punk" so we got...

Jan 19, 2013 - Hondo and Castroville, Texas

Jan. 19, 2013 Greetings friends and please forgive me for not posting sooner! We left College Station on January 19 and headed southwest to Hondo, Texas. These little towns have a rhythm all their own. G and I tried to go to the local museum in Hondo but decided it was just open on the first Saturday of the month that has a blue moon in it. We did go east of Hondo to Castroville. It is the German/French Alsace town of Texas. I have never seen so many restored 1850’s homes. They are made out of 17 inch thick limestone blocks and consist of...

Feb 13, 2011 - Livingston, Tx To Hondo, Tx

Feb. 13 Departing Conroe, TX. and driving to Hondo, Tx. We called Doug and Judy to find out where they were and found them in Kingsville, TX. They were driving up to hit I-10 then head east to son's home in South Carolina as #1 baby is on the way. Heck, we were heading west on I-10 going to Hondo. We all decided to meet in Schulenburg, TX. for dinner and a visit over night at the Schulenburg, TX. RV Park. Boy were we surprised, this area is full of history. They have a "painted church" self guided tour and boy it was awesome just awesome....

May 4, 2010 - Last busy days in Hondo

Busy, Busy last couple of days in Hondo. Besides trying to finish up the tree trimming, berry sweeping and cleaning to prepare the Teton for a 5-6 months parking in storage mode, we also were trying to help our neighbors get ready to move off their lot and they were so nice as to give us their porch & steps which will work just great for us with a little remodeling next fall. At the same time Dave is trying to get the new travel rig, fondly known as “the Fox”, ready to travel. Our first trip out to Yuma, Az was without any preparation and...

Mar 16, 2010 - a Free Rv weekend & Visiting Norton's stick house

Finally catching up, we had a nice trip up to “Tres Rios” resort but sure don’t want to get tied into that kind of resort plan. We really want to start just traveling along again and stopping when and where we want. This summer will be a trip up the east coast with our 8 yr. old granddaughter after a visit in Florida with my daughter & son-in-law and the wonderful Church family we found there. We had more rain in Yuma than they usually get all year and more rain in Hondo and Texas this year too. Dave finally got the roof done and the...

Mar 3, 2010 - A Driving Day!

This morning before we left the park I took a few photos. I found a daffodil in bloom by the club house. A few miles from the start we actually drove on one of those "farm roads which was in excellent shape and free of potholes. We drove on 59 south to Houston. As we got closer to the city their were additional lanes and more and more traffic. Also lanes well marked with highways number painted on the lane. And then of course construction where we came to a stop where traffic was being funneled from 4 lanes into 2 lanes. Although not a long...

Jan 7, 2010 - a New Year

Wow, how time flies when you are having fun and we are..just a few pictures of our yard and the new porch Dave is putting on the shed. As of this morning he has the roof, walls and doors in but no windows cut yet but that is not happening today. We woke to 43 and very windy and that is the high for today, we are heading into a deep winter chill all the way down here. In the last 2 hours the temps have dropped and the wind is up to 25 to 35 mph and 25 wind chill so the covered porch is now a parking garage for our 65 mustang until this...

Dec 20, 2009 - a Late update

We are so busy living life that I have not gotten around to updating this. I am sorry but as we are basically sitting still here in Hondo for the winter I have not had much to take pictures of and that is what usually gets out here to update. So here is what has been happening down here. We are busy getting our lot and shed done the way we want it and getting involved with the "Lone Star Corral" park operations. Dave is on the apprasial committee and I have taken over the calendar for the park activities and clubhouse events. We have added...
