Apr 5, 2011 - St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in High Hill, Texas
Our next stop was St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in High Hill, Texas. This church was built by German settlers in 1909. The painting was done in 1912 by Hermann Kern and Ferdinand Stockerts. These artists also painted Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in San Antonia. The images in the church were first painted on canvas and then glued to the wood walls. We didn't really need to buy a jigsaw puzzle, driving through Houston was puzzle enough. I didn't think we would ever get out of there. But we did and we actually saw some sunshine today. We made 304 miles today from Lafayette, LA to Schulenburg, Texas. We are planning to just spend the one night here, but there are some attractions here that we may decide to stay long enough to see. We had a late lunch at a Flying J Travel Stop and there is a Dairy Queen right behind the campground office, so I think a light dinner there is in order.
