Nov 6, 2014 - Hickory Creek, Lewisville Lake, TX

Hickory creek campground in Hickory Creek, Texas (about 25 minutes from brother Bill and family,) was a delightful place to spend three weeks. It's an ACOE spot, average cost at $15/night with our old age card. We camped in three sites while we were there, but by far the best was site 91, pictured above, where we were able to drag our kayaks down to the beach and paddle around. Interestingly, this campground is under the flight path to DFW and Love Field Airports, but the planes were high enough to be seen, but not intrusively noisy. I'll...

Dec 31, 2011 - So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye

The day after New Year's, we were supposed to move to Hickory Creek Corps of Engineers Park, but unfortunately, I had picked up a cold that Jeff had been nursing for several days and felt really rotten. We decided to stay an extra day in Mansfield, Adam, Amanda, and Madeleine had also been under the weather, but when we went over to Amanda's that morning, Madeleine had improved. She had had such a sore throat that she was communicating by writing on a white board the day before. This was a sad day, for Adam and Laura had to fly back to...

Nov 22, 2011 - Birthday and Best Friends

Robert celebrated his birthday on the day before with Amanda making his favorite meal - spaghetti, and Madeleine baking and decorating a birthday cake. We all had a great time. Our best friends Barb and Dave will be leaving for Mesa next week, so we had one last day with them. We drove out to Hickory Creek CoE where they are staying and had lunch. I must say, I am envious of them being in Mesa for the winter as we have done that for the last two years and always loved it. We had such a wonderful time there last year. There is always so much...

Apr 17, 2010 - You Can Take the Girl out of Texas . . .

I had forgotten to add some pictures that I took while the repairs were going on in Holbrook. The Wigwam Motel on Old Route 66 is something I remember from my childhood before the interstate took over. I always wanted to sleep in a Wigwam, but never did. From Holbrook to Gallup and then to Albuquerque - all one-nighters- NOT our favorite way to travel. In Albuquerque we stayed at our second FamCamp which was quite nice, but we didn't explore the base or anything else as we didn't even unhitch the toad. Our next stop was supposed to be...

Jun 26, 2008 - Last days in the Airstream

When we got the Airstream back from the repair shop, we spent a couple of weeks at Treetops RV park in Arlington, but we wanted to spend our last days in a more esoteric setting. We found it at Hickory Creek Corps of Engineers park on Lake Lewisville. We got a nice shady spot and enjoyed being out in the woods for our last time in the Airstream. We were right next to a bicycle trail which made for nice walks with Madison. Across the trail was a small copse which was the host to about four or five rabbits. These rabbits drove Madison...
