Jan 25, 2009 - Harlingen, Tx

We followed Don and Vicki down the road a few miles to our newest location. It was an uneventful trip. The campground is nice and much more like a resort than the usual places we stay. We like it here. The weather is nice but windy. The wind blows hard on a regular bases. The folks in the campground have a lot of good activities. Generally we don't participate in the activities because they are not our cup of tea. This campground has texas hold-em 3 nights per week and 1 golf outaging per week. Dan is enjoying these activates. We went to...

Jan 6, 2009 - Harlingen, TX - Tropic Winds

Wednesday (01/07) Arrived at Tropic Winds Resort and was escorted to the Thousand Trails section of the resort. Tropic Winds in Harlingen, TX was a good stop. The sites had a lot of room to spread out and the people were friendly. There was regular entertainment & social activities but not a lot of crafting activities. I did find a quilting class and am excited about the cardigan jacket. Thursday (01/08) Temp today is 88 degrees with a nice breeze to keep it feeling comfortable. Went to a craft fair this morning and waiting for the Dish guy...

Jan 5, 2009 - Hots Tubs And Tubby Hotties

Hi everyone, Sorry it has been so long since I have journeled. My hip got out of wack on the trip to Texas from Florida so I've needed a few days of R&R. (I'LL add photos tomorrow) Leaving Phil, Crys and the babies was very hard and we miss them everyday. We have been taking our time since we arrived, making this little piece of rented Texas real estate home for the next 3 months. We have a beautiful big lot between Paul and Joy and their dog, Rachel; and Syd and hmmmm having a senior moment.........can't remember wife's name today. Oh...

Jan 1, 2009 - Being a Winter Texan

We began our year (2009) in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, Harlingen to be specific. I think we joined half of the state of Oklahoma there. This was our first experience in spending the winter months at a gathering place for Snowbirds. We found a great place. Saw people we had met before and met lots more. There was much to do and we did it. One day was spent at a flea market. Shopping is not my favorite activity, but even I enjoyed the day. Another day, we drove with three other couples to Mission to go to the Chicken House Opry. What a...

Nov 13, 2008 - Harlingen, Texas

Thursday November 13…11:00pm When we checked our email this morning, we had a note from our friends Glen and Steve. This is the couple we spent a couple of months last winter with in Mexico’s Baja. And we will spend much of this winter with them as well. She was asking if we are close enough to meet up with them in Harlingen, Texas which is just outside of Brownsville. It was raining this morning, and we were looking forward to seeing them again, so we didn’t mind doing the extra drive. The scenery is much more like Mexico, as are the small...

Mar 9, 2008 - Harlingen, Texas

We got lucky when we choose our RV park through our discount camping book. We are staying at Palm Gardens in Harlingen for $16.00 a night and it has all the facilities like WiFi, pool and recreation hall. There are all kinds of activities going on including a jam session that we attended on Thursday night. There were over 30 musicians that played everything from a harmonica to a base and several sang. It was a very enjoyable 2 ½ hours filled with good old fashioned music. On Tuesday morning there was a free pancake breakfast that gave us a...

Feb 9, 2008 - The Rio Grande Valley

The day before leaving Brazoria, we decided to try out our new air compressor. We had not aired the tires on the RV and knew they were a bit low. Lynda confirmed that they needed air to bring them up to the 110 psi (cold) standard. She found we needed to add 10-20 psi per tire. Not really understanding how air compressors work we revved up our new mechanical toy to 125 psi and started to add air to one of the tires. As the pressure drained from the compressor it soon dipped to 90 psi when it cut on again. After this second cycle Lynda...

Feb 5, 2008 - Summer Camp For Senior 'kids' In The Winter

Hi everyone, Sorry I haven't written lately but life is just a whirlwind of activity when you are a 'winter Texan'. We went to church Sunday, along with 80 or so others right here in the camp. We attended a JAM session, musicians from the camp and the area playing and singing country, gospel, and hymns. It was great! Clinton won the raffle, $18 whole dollars. We went to the free pancake breakfast this morning, offered every Tuesday morning. We have so much lined up we don't really have to leave the park! But we do...:>) Everywhere you look...

Jan 30, 2008 - January - The Good, The Bad, and the Broken

We expected to be in and out of Texas, before we noticed. It wasn't meant to be. We arrived at the AFB in San Antonio to find they only had dry camping available. We figured it would not be a problem for the couple of nights we were going to be there. Just use the generator . . . wrong. We discovered our transfer switch had gone bad. A dealer just north of San Antonio said they could get us one in a few days and install it for us so we went to Canyon Trails RV a few miles up the road and settled in. We decided since we were going to be in...

Dec 2, 2007 - Arrived in Harlingen, TX, for three months

We rose early to a gray, misty, but balmy 67 degree morning, ready for a ROAD TRIP. Juanita took Bodie on a quick walk around the park while I did some real fast final preparations for departure and laid out our usual breakfast. After a quick meal, Juanita put our morning coffee in a couple of travel mugs, and we hitched up to begin our journey to the south....not so fast!!! As we we were checking out, we discovered that the park workers had not yet checked our last electric meter reading. Even though retired, I am not the most patient...

Feb 17, 2007 - Rio Grande Valley

Traveled from Rockport to Harlingen, TX on Feb. 1. Stayed at the Tropic Winds and another park for all of this month. The Tropic Winds is a really nice park with great amenities. During this month we viewed the original casting for the Iwo Jima memorial. Also had an opportunity to go to the Greyhound race track one day. Of course staying in the area and not visiting Progresso, Mexico would be like eating clam chowder with no clams. Had additional opportunities to get together with Aunt Milly and John (one of her friends).
