Mar 5, 2012 - Gruene Texas A Charming Historic Texas Village

March 5 2012 Gruene Texas March 5th was a beautiful sunny day and wall to wall blue skies. Nancy had been to Gruene a few days before, traveling with several women from the RV Park. She thought it deserved a spot on the trip journal. Here is a little history on Gruene. Arriving in Texas in the mid 1830’s German farmers became the first settlers of what is now known as Gruene, Texas. A German immigrant Ernst Gruene and his bride Antoinette, had reached the newly established city of New Braunfels in 1845, but acreage was scarce. Thus, Ernst...

May 6, 2011 - FSH - Historic Gruene

Another fun outing today! This time heading in another direction to the small historic town of Gruene (pronounced like the color “green”) just outside of New Braunfels to meet our friends Linda and George at the Grist Mill Restaurant. We first met George and Linda through mutual friends, Mary Jo and John, all living in Canyon Lake. Mary Jo and John introduced us to George and Linda because they had just come off the road from full-time RVing after a wonderful seven year stint. We all clicked immediately and we found in George and Linda two...

Mar 14, 2011 - Gruene, TX

Tina has now been cancer free for 3 years!!!!!!! Day trip to Gruene and New Braunfels, TX. Gruene (pronounced Green) has been designated a historic town by the state of Texas and has several old buildings that now house cute shops. Gruene Hall, a bar and dance hall, was built in the 1880s and is the oldest dance hall in Texas. Several famous country singers have performed in the hall over the years, but an unknown singer was there when we visited - he was good. Gruene is a pretty town overlooking the Guadalupe River lined with huge trees....

Winter 2011

Oct 16, 2010 - Gruene Craft Fair

We have been enjoying beautiful weather here in New Braunfels with sunny, warm days and cool nights. The high temps have been in the mid 80's with not much humidity and the lows at night have been in the 50's and one night it dipped down to 45. Today was warmer, however, and tonight it is supposed to be around 60 - still pretty damn nice! -- I have been visiting a lot with Zac and Devon while John holds down the fort - or the home on wheels. John took Suki in for new tires and brakes on Friday which turned out to be expensive, but she rides...

Sep 20, 2010 - Guadalupe River Trip in Future

We left Gruene, Texas and said we come back to do tubing trip or rafting trip. Several families rafting and looked like fun. Next year plan on it. Whole lot of German influence in this part of Texas. Left Gruene and drove straight to WinStar to spend the night. Oh, yeah, they have a casino too. We won a little and decided to spend the night. RV hook ups $21 not bad. We won enough to pay for 2 nights. Later Sooners, etceteras.

Jan 31, 2008 - People I have met in Gruene...and my thoughts on Border Patrol

I've enjoyed my stay in this little town of Gruene, population 20, which is really part of New Braunfels, population in the 1000s. I'm glad I decided to splurge on the B&B and just hang out for a day or two. Just so I remember who I want to write about - Kris, Robin and Joanne, voice over guy, Cecil, Linda?, Steve, couple celebrating their anniversary (Honduras and Austin), George, potter from Buck Pottery, woman from Lone Star music, Zach Walther and the Cronkites, guy at the front desk, young couple from Ventura Megan and husband. I...
