May 17, 2013 - Grapevine
Off to the Grapevine Annual Festival. Signs everywhere....parking well orchastrated movement in and out. We found free parking less than 2 blocks from the entrance. Just got lucky. The Street fair closed the entire down town and it was Disney Clean. everything was there, antique steam engine with tours, black smith shop, glass blowing, all sorts of vendors with chatkeys, and apparel. The stores were open as well with specials. A shopping meca. It was the largest street fair ever. Rides for kids, musical groups and food everywhere. Went...

Aug 24, 2012 - Tyler, TX to Grapevine, TX
Tyler, TX to Grapevine, TX 134 miles The day took a small detour when I called the RV park in Arlington to make reservations. They are booked solid this weekend, next week, and next weekend. I can understand next weekend since it’s Labor Day, but this weekend? What’s going on in Arlington??? We shifted plans and found an RV park not too terribly far from where Ron’s daughter lives and were able to make reservations for this weekend. The drive from Tyler was not too bad until we were caught up in major construction and the start of rush...

Dec 17, 2011 - Dismay in a Manger
Our good friends Chris and Phyllis Whatley for whom we worked in murder mystery dinner theatre for several years, had opened a new venue for the murder mystery in downtown Grapevine, so we took the whole family there on Saturday to see their Christmas Show - Dismay in a Manger. We figured this would definitely be a new experience for Silja who also brought her friend Clay. After being at the Fort Worth Stockyards, then at the Gaylord Texas, the murder mystery now has its own theatre Texas Star Dinner Theatre . They have a meal catered by...

Nov 5, 2011 - Leggo My Lego!
Since we had flown Madeleine out to San Francisco, we had promised Jean-Luc a fun weekend when we returned to DFW. We picked him up after school on Friday and had a great time watching E.T., which Jean-Luc had never seen. Grandpa had to go out and get us some Reese's Pieces from the RV park store because, of course, you can't watch E.T. without Reese's Pieces. The long awaited activity was to go to Grapevine Mills where they have a Lego Discovery Center. Jean-Luc has been waiting and waiting to go there. And what fun he had! We got to take...

Sep 16, 2011 - GrapeFest
This morning, the Avellas were able to move their camping spot closer to the Labowskys. So they disconnected everything and moved two rows closer to the front of the campground. (Now however, they are having problems with the satellite reception.) In their prep for the move, Phyl was moving the LR slide in and had forgotten she had the sink covers leaning up against the dinette. As the slide moved in the covers fell against her right ankle and before she could reverse the movement, the damage was done. At first it seemed just a little...

Dec 12, 2010 - The Vineyard, Grapevine TX.
Formerly a COE park the city has taken over and improved significantly. Unlike most COE parks all sites have full hookups. They were building a deck on the site I reserved and had to select another. Convenient to Dallas and found lots to do and eat around Grapevine.

Nov 12, 2010 - Gaylord Texan's "ICE"
We headed over this direction just because we wanted to see the Gaylord Texan's Ice Sculptures at their Hotel and Convention Center in Grape Vine. We bought our tickets ahead of time and actually came on the first night it was open. There was good news and bad news associated with that plan. First, the good news was that it wasn't crowded at all and we could take as much time as we wanted in the sculptures area without getting pushed around. The bad news was that since this was the first night, they did not turn on all the Christmas lights...

Apr 30, 2010 - The Vineyards RV Park at Grapevine Texas
We have had a couple of days to relax and see the area that we are staying in Texas…. I realized that I don’t too often show you the campsites that we stay in except for a brief glimpse… Today is a different story.. We love the Grapevine area just north of Dallas and the Vineyard Campground is an awesome place to stay. Usually when we are here visiting the kids and grandkids, we don’t get much time to enjoy the campground. It is just the closest place to stay. Well not this time.. We have enjoyed it immensely. Yesterday we went to the...

Apr 29, 2010 - The Big "D"
We had a fairly easy drive to Grapevine, TX . Grapevine is located on the North end of Dallas just north of the DFW airport. We took the route around Forth Worth instead og going thru downtown Dallas. We did real good until about the last 15 miles and then ran into some slow stop and go traffic due to a truck off the side of the road that caused the gawkers to hold up all traffic. It didn’t take us long to get set up at one of our favorite campgrounds. We are on Lake Grapevine and it is a beautiful setting. Only problem we have is that our...

Oct 27, 2009 - Colbert, OK to Grapevine, TX
Goodbye Oklahoma, Hello Texas Marilyn & I both awakened to the sound of rain falling on our roof. That was not good news because one of our seams on the roof has lost it’s good seal and we have some water coming down inside the wall to the floor, causing a wet spot on the carpet. I have located the leak and purchased the needed sealant. I now have a project for tomorrow. We took our time getting ready to leave, this morning. We had only 84 miles to travel and good highways all the way. We were camped last night, only a couple of miles from...

Jun 1, 2009 - Too Much "Grape" in Grapevine
Lordy what a blast!! Got to spend time with grandchildren together and alone. Stayed in the finest campground I have ever seen. Really nice place on Grapevine lake. Partied too hard at the Back Porch with son and his wife waayy to many times. Gotta cut back a bit.. If we were recording a rock album on this tour, it would thus far be named "Shitfaced 2009". Gotta slow down. The VFW in Grapevine makes the one in Astor look classy. Gawd it was awful! However, I had the best streak on a pool table ever. Played three guys thought to be the best...

Jun 1, 2008 - “Back on the road again!”
It’s official we are old! Our oldest grandson has graduated from High School. We are so proud of you Peyton. Okay, we had a nice start with plans to stop early in the small town of Memphis, TX. Once there, we never found the campground advertised in the “Texas Travel Book”. Because it was still early, we decided to make it to Dumas with a “Pit” stop in Amarillo for fuel. In Texas, by the way, diesel prices have been averaging $4.67. When we arrived in Dumas, we located the campground easily. Adjacent to a city park, we had a good feeling...
