It started to rain as I drove to Goliad. It rained steadily so I decided to eat lunch at the Hanging Tree restaurant in Goliad and hope that while I was eating that it would stop raining. April 30, 2013 – Fannin and Goliad, Texas This morning I slept in and then wrote up yesterday’s travels. Today’s agenda were sites that were nearby. I still have some things to see in Corpus, but I decided not to drive so far today. The first stop was at Fannin. It is the site of a battle which like the Alamo galvanized Texans to fight for their independence from Mexico. Hier vendredi nous avons assisté à la partie exposition agricole de la foire de comté en après-midi et au rodéo de Goliad en soirée. On a assisté à la présentation de vaches, taures, bouvillons et jeunes taureaux par de jeunes adolescents et adolescentes, c'était une première pour Agnès et moi, nous avons été très impressionnés par ces jeunes paradant ces grosses bêtes souvent plus grosses qu'eux et dans des conditions difficiles, il faisait chaud et il y avait beaucoup de monde pour assister à l'événement. Aujourd'hui nous avons visité le centre-ville de Goliad et ses environs, Goliad est une ville de moins de 2000 âmes mais c'est de même le siège du conté on y trouve alors beaucoups de batisse relié à l'administration du conté, le palais de justice, l'administration des terres, la voirie etc. Goliad a déjà été la deuxième plus grande ville du Texas juste après Galveston, on y trouvait plusieurs collèges, couvent, écoles et autre. Le presidio, qui veut dire fort en espagnol, se touve un quart de mille de la mission que nous avons visité hier. Presidio de La Bahia veut dire fort de la baie, ce fort comme la mission a déménagé trois fois, au début il se trouvait sur le bord de la mer et au fur et à mesure que la colonisation espagnole se déplaçait vers l'ouest il a suivi, comme la mission. Aujourd'hui c'est le triste anniversaire du décès de ma petite sœur Denyse, elle est décédée prématurément à l'âge de 44 ans en 2001. Alors cette journée est pour toi petite soeur. Nous nous sommes levés de bonne heure et après notre rituel matinal Agnès nous a préparé un bon petit lunch et nous nous sommes dirigés vers le "Goliad State Park" à 5 minutes de notre emplacement. Mar 11, 2013 - Goliad

Nous sommes arrivés à Goliad on avait planifié y demeurer 2 nuits mais on a loué pour 7 jours il y a beaucoup de choses à faire et à voir. Après s'être installé on a fait une petite sortie dans les environs, la ville est superbe surtout la partie historique. On a vu un groupe de charognards, urubus noirs, rouge et un caracara se disputer une carcasse. Demain on visite le state park qui est superbe, vous verrez.

We took a trip over to Goliad today to attend their market. We've been here before so we knew how nice it is. We didn't see too much that we couldn't live without. We did, however, buy a hummingbird feeder from one of the vendors. As I was buying it I was thinking that my brother Paul could make this kind of stuff pretty easily.
