Dec 11, 2018 - Gladewater, TX
Gladewater Texas is a new campground for us. When she picked it Janet thought it was a lot closer to Bullard, and we will be meeting up with some friends from Bullard for dinner. Paul and Sandy have been going to Arizona for spring baseball and camping in the same place for 10+ years, and we been camping behind them or next to them in PEM for 4 of the last 6 years. We had a nice dinner at a local BBQ place that Paul knew and then went to Marshall TX to see the downtown Christmas lights. It was a warm evening at about 60 degrees and the...

Aug 28, 2013 - Gladewater, TX.
We started our day at the tire store. It was time to have the tires rotated. We were first in line and it didn't take very long once they figured out we could raise the motorhome with our leveling jacks. Once we were done with that chore we headed across the Mississippi River into Louisiana. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast and it turned out to be just down the street from the 'Duck Dynasty' store and office. They were actually filming and making sure no one could get close. There were guards, barricades and black curtains. We...

Jun 7, 2013 - Two day stay
230 Mile drive from Giddings to Gladewater. Needed diesel fuel - Paid $2.63 a gallon today. Drove for a short time in a torrential downpour. Ended our driving today at a nice RV park in Gladewater. Decided to spend an extra day here. Went out to dinner at a local steakhouse - Tumbleweed Steak House. A side trip on Friday to Jonesville, TX to T.C. Lindsey & Co. advertised as "The Best Country Store in Texas." Quite interesting. The sales lady told us she had worked there for 57 years. After we left there, we went to a very unique restaurant...

Apr 30, 2011 - Gladewater, Texas
The past few days have been spent socializing and eating. In the evening we have had some pretty good entertainment. The other night we had an Elvis impersonator, he has won some of the contests that are held. If you closed your eyes you could not tell him from the real thing. Last night we had a group of four ladies that sang dew wop. About half the songs we did not know as we are at the younger end of the crowd. At one point one of the singers went through the audience and she stuck the microphone under my mouth, but I did not know the...

Apr 23, 2011 - Gladewater, Texas
It turns out that a friend from the NuWa Forum lives only 20 miles from where we are camping, David and Shirley Williamson. We got together at my trailer and then they took us out to lunch to a very nice Mexican Restaurant. David paid the bill and it was a very nice gesture. They they took us on a tour of the area. His family has lived in this area since before the Civil War. He took us to Caddo Lake and the city of Jefferson. Caddo Lake looks like we were in Florida. In this part of Texas we are pretty close to the Gulf of Mexico so the...

We arrived without incident in Gladewater, TX for the Freightliner Rally. We are here 5 days early. Yesterday we took Ihop (our new cat) over to the vet to have his claws removed, castrated, shots, and chipped. They kept him over night and we get him back today. Then we took the truck over to a shop where the front suspension was fitted with air bags and a system to control the spring in all the air bags on the truck. End result is that the truck will ride even smoother than it did before. Last night all the early Freightliner people had a...

Apr 1, 2011 - Graceful Ghost Boat Ride
Today we left the YARS (Young Active Retirees) Rally heading over to Gladewater, TX to join the last day of the Full-Timers Rally so we can go on the boat ride and have a wonderful steak dinner with them before going our separate ways. We took a wonderful ride on a steamboat known as the "Graceful Ghost" which took us on a wonderful tour of Caddo Lake. The Graceful Ghost is an authentic recreation of an 1800's steamboat complete with a wood burning boiler, steam whistle and working paddle wheel. This wonderful riverboat is the "last and...

Feb 26, 2011 - Gladewater, Texas
Not much to say abut today's trip. It was short 2.5 hour run and we are now in Gladewater, Texas. A campground we stayed at on the front end of the trip and one that enjoyed. We are about two hours from the Dallas/Ft. Worth megalopolis and since tomorrow is Sunday we are hoping that traffic will be light. The days started out sunny with a light breeze but as entered Texas the clouds moved in and it looks like rain may be on the days menu. That is it for today, short and sweet. Ross & Marge

Jan 23, 2011 - Gladewater
We left Big Spring, Texas and drove to Mingus, Texas and tonight we are in Gladewater, Texas. The drive from El Paso has been long and tiring due to the winds which have blown constantly every day, dieing down in the evenings. It would have been great if they were tailwinds rather than crosswinds. The night time temperatures have been below freezing except for last night when the temperature got no lower than 33 degrees. Every day has been clear and sunny and with traveling due east the sun has been a challenge to deal with until around the...

Oct 28, 2010 - Crossing Louisiana Without Eating
The Ameristar Casino where we stayed last night gave us coupons for their breakfast buffet and that's where we headed this morning. It was a very well done buffet and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We opted to walk back to our site and this turned out to be a strenuous decision as we had to climb the steep embankment along the Mississippi so we did a pretty good job of working off some of that breakfast. Upon leaving the park, we found that the exit ramp to I-20 was blocked and Doug continued down the road looking for a turnaround. The end...

May 9, 2010 - From Spring into Gladewater, TX
Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau ........... Our trip from Spring went well, but we were (I was) getting a little frustrated wanting to find a gas station that we could get in and out of without problems, had diesel, and was on our side of the street for easy access, as we traveled through parts of Tyler. We found a place. Like to go to bed and have a full tank, and not have to find fuel in the morning as we head out. We were lucky. Lots of construction on the road that goes into the park, Shallow Creek, which is quite nice. The design is...
