May 18, 2019 - We're on the road!

What a morning! We thought we were all ready to leave and Jay found a problem with the electrical system that connects the RV to the car. So what started out as an early day on the road, turned out to be much later. BUT... Jay was able to fix the problem BUT.... Not before the police showed up at the door. Yikes! After fixing the problem, it was lunch time and Jay wanted to go to our local spot in Sun City to have lunch and calm down a bit after such a crazy morning. Well, we forgot to shut the bedroom door and Rocky set off our alarm,...

Dec 14, 2017 - Georgetown, TX

Our trip from Longview to Georgetown was another cross-country trip, mostly along state highways. It does give us a better look at the countryside, but of course takes longer. It was supposed to be a short travel day of about 230 miles, but only the mileage was short because we arrived later than expected (3PM) and I was tired. This is a very busy traffic area and there is 30 miles of highway construction going on around Waco. We are here to check out Sun City Texas, a 55+ Del Webb community. We spent a few hours talking to a realtor and a...

Aug 6, 2016 - Lasting Memories

Final Thoughts As is typical of a Hog gathering, this trip had its share of special memories. Although I cannot do them justice, here are a few of them. Ask a Hog you know to tell you the "rest of the story".... "Milk, Milk, Lemonade, around the corner Fudge is made" - This song was sung way too many times, with all the appropriate hand gestures Pizza Boxes in the elevator in San Antonio. Picture a well-endowed woman in a low cut blouse in a crowded elevator holding pizza boxes chest high "Italian CPR" saved Jack and Texas Steve. Pokemons...

Our gathering place is David and Tonya’s spacious spread in Georgetown, just a little bit outside of Austin. We gathered...

Jan 25, 2016 - Jim Hogg Park

From Valley Mills we headed to Georgetown, Jim Hogg Park, by way of Discount Tire in Waco to get 2 new tires for the RV. While we waited we had lunch at a Fazoli's. Then off to Georgetown for a few nights. We parked next to friends and fellow managers from our summer job, Ann and Dan. They had made the California trip with us. On Saturday we met Amber and Scott for lunch at Dahlia's restaurant, a very popular place, especially in the summer. Although it looked small initially, it was really quite large with a big playground and outdoor...

Oct 28, 2015 - Sad News

It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know that my beloved wife of thirty-five years, my best friend and my best travel companion passed away on October 17, 2015, in Cedar Park, Texas. Our tourist days essentially ended after Christmas 2013. Betty had a series of medical setbacks in 2014 and we had a double whammy when I was diagnosed with bladder cancer while we were visiting my sister in Redding, CA. We accepted our daughter Lisa's invitation to come to Texas and be near her so that she and her husband Mike could help us out. In...

Aug 23, 2015 - Return to Georgetown

This morning I drove back to Georgetown to Crestview RV so as to be available for my early-morning appointment on Monday. On Friday afternoon my service writer, Terry, told me that the parts for my brake job had arrived but not the sensor for my jacks. At least I’ll be able to get the more critical brake repairs made tomorrow. I arrived at the Crestview lot around noon. The service department is closed on weekends but the sales department opens at 1:00 on Sundays. Because of the heat I wanted to run my generator so I could use my air...

Aug 19, 2015 - To Georgetown

This morning I was up early because I had two appointments for RV-related repairs. First, I stopped at the Discount Tire store in Round Rock to have my tires checked and to see what was causing vibrations at slow speeds. They balanced all six tires. Another problem was that the right rear outside dual tire was flat due to a damaged stem, so they installed a new stem. They didn’t charge me for any of this work. I’m really sold on this company! From there I drove on up to Georgetown to Crestview RV to have my brakes repaired and a new sensor...

Jul 2, 2015 - Bye Bye, Sun City!

Well, after several delays to the trip, we are finally off! As you may know, Jay has been busy remodeling the interior of our RV and it has taken him longer than expected. After stressing about leaving on June 21st, then June 27th, then June 28th, we finally came to the conclusion that we really didn't need to leave until we were ready. Well, on July 2nd, we felt we were far enough along to get out of town. So today it was time to say goodbye to the Texas heat. So long, Sun City Texas! We'll see you again over Labor Day weekend.

May 20, 2015 - Daisy’s Inspection

After exercise class this morning, I grabbed a hamburger for lunch and then finished getting ready for my little trip. First, I fed Daisy to keep her happy. Then, a little after noon, we were on our way to Crestview RV in Georgetown to complete the safety inspection that they started last month. They installed the amber clearance light, which I had had to order from the factory. With that, Daisy passed her inspection and emissions test. I was glad that no other work was needed in order to pass the inspection. There were some other jobs on...

Apr 15, 2015 - First Outing in Daisy in Over a Year

Today is a special day in that I am on my way to the first campout with my Cen-Tex friends since March 2014. There were several things I needed to attend to first, though. I was up quite early so I’d have time to take care of everything. First, I had to feed Daisy and then drive to Silver Sneakers class. After exercise class I went to Discount Tires to have the air pressure checked. All the tires were lower than I like for them to be but not dangerously low, considering that it had been over a year since their last check. I like to drive...

Jul 8, 2014 - Leaving Sun City

Goodbye Sun City, TX…. We're on our way. Well, not exactly! It was definitely a rough start to our trip. But something usually goes wrong, so maybe we're just getting it out of the way early. Sure hope so! We were supposed to leave by noon, but Jay ran into a few issues with the hitch to the new car that we pull behind the RV. So we left at 2:30 just in time to hit the Dallas rush hour. But wait! We didn't. We pulled out of Sun City and the car unhitched from the RV. NOT a good thing. So back we went to the house for some repairs and...
