May 18, 2013 - May 18, 2013 – Plano, Fort Worth and Irving, Texas
May 18, 2013 – Plano, Fort Worth and Irving, Texas This morning I went to Helen’s house, and we laid our plans for what we were going to see today. Helen drove, and I more or less navigated. Helen saw parts of Fort Worth that she never thought she would see – or even wanted to see! She even went to Colleyville! The 1st place we went was to see the Texas shaped pool at a membership club in Plano. You could see the shape, but it wouldn’t come out in a picture so I didn’t take one. It holds 168,000 gallons of water. It is about 45 years old...

May 15, 2013 - Texas Civil War Museum
Texas Civil War Museum, another amazing museum. Divided in half, left side contains Union objects, artifacts, pictures and explanations while the right side of the museum contains the Confederate items. Further in the museum the Texas battles are explained. Toward the end of the museum, there are cases of gorgeous Victorian gowns and dresses on mannequins.

Dec 31, 2012 - Off to Rochester, MN then Ft. Worth, TX
Dec 22nd was our last day at Amazon. Whew – another season done!! Wasn’t too bad for $11 an hour and a completion bonus of $1 for every hour worked. Dec 24 - we left early in the morning to Rochester, MN for some doctor appts on Dec 26. The doctor visits all went basically pretty well except for Jack had a low white blood count and the hematologist recommended starting his new month of chemo pills a week later than regularly scheduled. We finished our doctor appts on Dec 27 which was just in time because on Dec 28 it started snowing again...

Dec 13, 2012 - Back to Texas
We arrived in Texas on Friday, December 7th and headed to our camp site at the Hickory Creek Campground. The campground is on Lake Lewisville. The water level was very low due to the prolonged drought in Texas. But our purpose for being in this part of Texas was to visit some old friends. We wanted to see Michele's BFF Ciara Hartmann and her family. Michele and Ciara have known each other since they were 10 years old and were on a swim team together. Ciara could swim like a fish and with her encouragement soon Michele was doing the same....

Oct 21, 2012 - Fort Worth Stock Yards
Fred was still sick and tired too so he opted to stay home while I went in to Fort Worth. I decided to see the old stockyard area first. Well, there was so much to see at the Stockyards that I never went anywhere else. It was 92 degrees and really humid that day. First I went to the Visitor's Center and signed up for a tour. Went for a quick lunch and then stood on the curb of the main street in the area and watched a modern day cattle drive. Each day at 11:30 am they have six cowboys who herd 18 longhorn steer from their overnight quarters...

Sep 25, 2012 - Benbrook Lake
We are in central Texas on a very warm (97 degree) afternoon, staying on Benbrook Lake. We were here two years ago and liked the park. We hit Dallas/Fort Worth about 3:00 p.m., so we had "Boston-like" traffic to deal with. It was good to finally land here. We have a large, lakefront, site, with turkey vultures circling overhead and a flock of white egrets lining the shore. Not certain how often the two go hand-in-hand. We also have a flock (?) of butterflies at our site, which spent the night on one of our trees, as well as the hood of our...

Jun 11, 2012 - Exploring Ft Worth/Dallas
Had a wonderful day going to Dallas and seeing the Longhorn herd statues. Very large and life like and a lot of them! They were right downtown and has free parking! WE went early as it is now the late afternoon and over 100 degrees. The weather was nice this morning and it was easy to get in and out of Dallas, not like we thought. If you ever get a chance to see this--do so as it is worth the trip. It is a small park with a stream and the back of the herd is up on a little hill and come down the trail and turns and crosses the stream and...

May 2, 2012 - A Visit With the Simmons
2012-05-02 A visit with Gene & Mirion Simmons In 2008 we worked at Yellowstone National Park all summer. Gene & Mirion did also and we became friends. When they saw we were wandering around Texas they emailed and invited us to visit. They live near Fort Worth and so we stopped by and spent the night on their driveway. We went out to dinner at a really good Chinese restaurant, talked over old times at YNP and just caught up with one another. We had a great time and sure thank them for their hospitality. Later, Gary

Apr 24, 2012 - Another Side trip Fort Worth this time!
4/24/2012 Today is Fort Worth Day. Nick was able to get off early today so he got to go with us. Poor Manny had to go to school, sorry kid! Anyway, we headed to town. Our first stop was at the Texas Civil War Museum. We got there just as a bunch of school kids were in the gift shop so we went in to watch the movie while they cleared out. The museum was small, but very interesting. I had seen the war from the northern point of view, so seeing the southern side is quite different. Lots of memorabelia from the war to see. When we finished...

Jan 4, 2012 - Back in the Saddle...
From Vicksburg we set out for Dallas, arriving there mid-afternoon on January 1, 2012. We realized some of the things we wanted to see would not be open that day, but that was fine because our main concern was being able to watch the NY Giants play the Dallas Cowboys in the evening. Watching it in Dallas was a little disconcerting, and we made sure the doors and windows of the motorhome were closed and locked; we tried not to cheer too loudly as the Giants played one of their better games and did win as we didn’t want any Cowboy fans to...

Dec 1, 2011 - Christmas Tree and Lights in Down Town Fort Worth Texas
I'm getting a bit of grief from this mytripjournal program...this just happens to be my third attempt at getting a little text written about our jaunt to down town Fort Worth to see the Christmas lights. They obviously haven't perfected their website...I have had problems loading pictures and the URL address isn't easy to access. My plea to the tech's has been met with very little interest nor assistance. Sorry about the delay in getting my comments out to you'all on our evening in down town Fort Worth! It was a lovely warm evening, and a...

Nov 27, 2011 - What's for dinner tonight?
Sunday lunch time just begs us to find a Vietnamese Pho restaurant...it's like a drug - gotta have it! We found one called Pho 95 in a predominantly Vietnamese area on Belknap Street over in Haltom City, about 7 miles from our RV park. We were really happy with our soup, I had seafood pho and Bruce had beef in his. After lunch we had a wander through the neighbouring Asian grocery store, which we love! So many different vegetablea, fruits, meats and seafood. In the seafood area we found a bin of gorgeous fresh jumbo prawn, heads on, sitting...
