Oct 19, 2019 - Texas

Arrived in Westwood RV, which is just West of Fort Worth TX. Spend the night at a roadside stop in Abeline Tx. Did the tourist thing and visited the old Stockyards. Walked around, watched the cowpokes herd the longhorns down the street and had a drink at Filthy McNasty's Saloon. Every time we stop here, we have dinner at Texas de Brazil. It's always amazing and we eat too much. Fixed menu with open salad bar and tons of Lobster Bisque. Then waiters walk around with different meats and you just say yes or no to each selection. All you can...

May 9, 2019 - Day Trip: Fort Worth, Texas

It’s a full day! We meet Marjorie for breakfast. She is “free” today and agrees to take us to Fort Worth. I especially want to visit the Stock Yards. At the Stock Yards, people are lining the street. Marjorie drops us off and parks the car. Twice a day there is a longhorn cattle drive. This is what everyone is waiting for. Perfect timing! After the cattle drive, we walk. Mostly, we see stores, restaurants and a couple of museums. Wait! There’s a longhorn. Yes, you can sit on it. It costs $5.00. John is quick to reach in his pocket and put...

Dec 10, 2018 - Fort Worth, Holiday Exhibit of ICE

This adventure is going to be something really different for us. We are going on a bus trip to San Antonio with Village Tours. We were so fortunate we didn't get the weather the weatherman predicted. It was a dry morning and our meeting point and time was at 10 a.m. at the Village bus terminal. We offloaded our bags and parked the Jeep and they had a little hospitality room where we had snacks and coffee and met the rest of the tour group. They had a group from Wichita, Tulsa, and our group from OKC, 31 people total plus the tour guide...

Adventures for 2018

Oct 8, 2018 - Texas - Texas Motor Speedway

Couldn't pass through Texas without a visit to Texas Motor Speedway. Another hot, sticky day - and OMG, the traffic around Dallas/Ft. Worth - YIKES! Anyway easily found the track entrance and had a super time. Tony Stewart was hosting his annual special "Smoke Show" which hosts folks who pay an obscene amount of money to take to the track in a competitive race car - complete with instruction from Tony's crew and many other activities (this as told to us by parents of one such participant). We had a wonderful tour - mostly to ourselves so...

Jul 20, 2018 - Leaving Europe

My family was scheduled to meet me in Paris on Friday. We were planning to spend a few days in Paris, drive down the Loire Valley, visit the Palace at Versailles. We were planning to train to Southaven, England, and take a cruise across the Atlantic to New York. But, Dad is still in the rehab hospital trying to recover. So, we canceled everything and I made arrangements to head back to Texas to see him. I suppose the trip to Texas began in Sarajevo. I got up on Thursday and got packed to leave. Then, walked back down Old Town. The...

May 16, 2018 - May 16, 2018 – Aransas Pass to Fort Worth, Texas

May 16, 2018 – Aransas Pass to Fort Worth, Texas As usual on the night before I take off on a long drive, I didn’t sleep well. I was afraid I’d get sleepy on the way, but I didn’t. It took me a bit longer to hook up this morning since I hadn’t done it for almost 6 months. So, instead of pulling out at 7:45, it was 8:15 before I got away. I stopped at the garage which did the inspection, and they were quick about it. I was on the road by 9. When I stopped for gas in Waco, I called Carl, the RV Doc and made arrangements to drop off Joliffe...

Dec 13, 2016 - Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, Oh My!

You remember that snow and cold we left back in Wisconsin on Monday? Well at least the cold part followed us to Overland Park, KS on Monday night. We woke Tuesday to temps of 15 degrees, which is actually cold by Wisconsin standards. In Kansas, the TV folks acted like the apocalypse was upon us. Now I know that hearty Badgers are supposed to be used to this crap, but I have to admit that it was mighty darn cold squeezing those suitcases, my backpack and the small cooler into that frozen, already overstuffed car. I knew there was a reason we...

Gone, Gone, Gone

Nov 4, 2016 - Fort Worth: Center of Art

After a day of rest from our first trip to Ft Worth, we decided to return to take in the Art scene. Quite impressive as we visited the Museum of Modern Art which featured a show of KAWS (signature is "X"s for eyes. Interesting building too. Then on to the water gardens. This was build on (or near) the site of "Hells Half Acre" a notorious party zone during the haydays of cattle drives.

Sep 21, 2016 - Texas is a big state

Dave and I decided that we were just going to press onward towards home today - we had a 7+ hour drive to Fort Worth, TX where we stopped for the night. We knew we were not stopping anywhere - so we decided to just make a day of looking out the window at the sights. We saw hundreds of oil pumps all over TX. Many were in El Paso and Odessa. The speed limit was 80MPH. Finally I could go 80 without Dave telling me to slow down! We were making great time on Interstate 10 through Texas when all of the sudden there appears a long line of cars...

Mar 7, 2016 - Cowboys and Longhorns

We awoke today to some serious weather alerts. Tornadoes, flooding and major storms. We still thought we would venture out until the weather forced us indoors. As usual we were up around 7 and out by 8.30, typically though, nothing was open. Most shops opened at 10am some did some window shopping and wandered the stockyards to do the touristy thing. True to form Brett even found a sports store in Forth Worth, he managed to purchase some Dallas Cowboys memorabilia and a Texas University cap... I fear we may be branching out into university...

Mar 6, 2016 - We are in Texas

As of today we had 7 nights left to travel the 1000 miles back to LA. We flew from Vancouver to LA and had a 90 minute stop over before we headed to Dallas. It was pretty much the whole day gone, as by the time we got to Dallas it was 4.35pm. We had entered another time zone and had to put our clocks forward 2 hours. On the plus side, the flight allowed me to get the blog up to date! We have made many purchases on our trip but probably the best is our noise reduction headphones. They are amazing, just turn them on and they work to meet the...

Dec 29, 2015 - Shootings & Cowboys

Started off the day with breakfast in the hotel, with fresh waffles on order. Check out Zachary's creation - for breakfast!! Drove in to Dallas to the Sixth Floor Museum, which is where JFK was assassinated from. Spent an hour going through the museum & then walked to the grassy knoll to see the X on the road & see the window from where the shot was fired from the outside. Very interesting! Then drove to an Outdoor World store which is seen on the TV show Last Man Standing with Tim Allen. A very unusual store with a lot of hunting items &...
