Mar 19, 2012 - Finally On The Road Again

We've been here for five months that's the longest we've stayed anywhere since we became full time RV'ers. We pulled out of the park at 8:30AM this morning, it is a 250 mile drive to Lake Colorado City State Park where we will be staying for three days, sur feels good to be on the road again. The first 45 miles was interstate but at Austin we were off on mostly two lane state highways. Once we were out of Austin and into the hill country the roadsides were covered with beautiful Blue Bonnet flowers, the Texas state flower. Texas has a lot...

Mar 18, 2012 - 80/20 Rule

Steady stream of campers leaving this morning, by noon the park was almost empty. Mary still not feeling well and her fibromyalgia is bothering her so she won't be working today. I hauled off four trailer loads of ashes from the fire pits as well as a trailer load of cans and water bottles left scattered around. It's the 80/20 rule, 80% of the campers obey the rules and pick up after themselves while the other 20% are loud rowdy and leave a mess. Said good bye to Chuck and Mavis as they pulled out this morning headed for their home in Kansas.

Mar 17, 2012 - Missed Kodak Moment

We only have five open sites out of 125, never seen so many little kids with training wheels on their bikes riding around. Went into San Marcos for some last minute shopping and a stop at Best Buy to exchange my camera, they didn't have another one so I'll wait until we go into Abilene next Tuesday to do it. I missed a Kodak moment on the way into San Marcos, there was a sofa down in the ditch with a big sign on it "Free".

Mar 16, 2012 - Short Timers

The park had a going away fajita dinner for us workampers this evening. Fired up the generator with both air conditioners running for a full load test run. Mounted the bike to the rear ladder using the bike rack that I picked up awhile back at a thrift store. Mary's last chance to win the big one before leaving didn't pan out, I guess she will have to wait for ND to see if she can win her money back.

Mar 15, 2012 - Lesson Learned

My new camera is dying again, the zoom lens isn't going in or out right. The park is really filling up fast for the last weekend of spring break. We've decided that whenever we volunteer as workampers anymore it won't be where they have cabins because it is too much for Mary. Caught another nice Bluegill this afternoon

Mar 14, 2012 - Over 7,000 Bricks.

Mary almost won enough to pay for her day at bingo. Starting to get ready to pull out on Monday took off cleaned and packed away the wheel covers checked all the tire pressures and all the engine fluids. I put the finishing touches to my pool project today, I estimate that in the five months we've been here I have picked up, hauled off and laid something over 7,000 bricks.

Mar 13, 2012 - My Bad

After hauling two loads of porous limestone rock with my cart and trailer I gave up and got the tractor and the big trailer to haul the rest of the rocks up to the pool area. While I was off loading the rocks I left the gate open to the pool,an insurance inspector came by and wrote us up, my bad. Tomorrow I'll put the finishing touches on the pool project, once again this turned out to be a lot more of a project than I had originally planned. After two days of housekeeping in hot humid weather Mary is exhausted, tired and sore all over....

Mar 12, 2012 - A Very Busy Weekend

Mary usually works in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays but because we have so many campers and all of the cabins are rented she will be helping Rhonda in housekeeping. I went around cleaning fire pits, ended up with two trailer loads of ashes and coals. I hauled in and laid the last of the bricks and sand for the pool, tomorrow comes the rocks. I also hauled in a couple loads of firewood to restock and helped with directing campers to their sites

Mar 11, 2012 - One Week To Go

Today started out with thunder lightening and heavy rain but cleared later in the morning becoming a beautiful sun shine filled day. Mary was kept busy cleaning the bath houses and some cabins that needed to be turned around. I spent most of the day hauling firewood, sand and bricks. We are leaving a week from tomorrow so I need to get my project at the pool finished. Fishing is still the pits I can't even get them to steal my bait.

Mar 10, 2012 - How Do You Back This Thing Up?

Nasty cold and wet day even so we've had very few cancellations because the park is full with quite a few people camping in tents. I've come to realize that most people have no idea how to drive a fifth wheel or trailer let alone try to back it into a fairly tight parking spot. This afternoon a guy drove over the top of my little trailer hooked to the back of my golf cart.

Mar 9, 2012 - Spring Break

Nasty start to our big week, today is forecasted to rain all day with a high of 44F and a stiff wind out of the north. Got all our papers ready to send to Mark to get our taxes done. Mary did manage to win another twenty five dollars at bingo today so she is feeling a little better but still feels the game owes her a jackpot win. Today is the start of spring break, we have quite a few coming in today, by Monday almost everything we have is rented out. I worked from 3 - 6PM taking guests to their site.

Mar 8, 2012 - Radical Change

The weather man is calling for a drastic change in the weather, the last few days has been in the upper seventies. That all came to an end about 5PM when it started to rain then the wind kicked up to 25-35MPH changing from the south to the north causing the temperature to drop from 77F to 54F, all of this occurred in less than an hour. Around 6PM I glanced out the window to see a twenty foot section of a tree at the back of the coach that had blown down, fortunately it didn't hit anything but the ground.
