Mar 9, 2009 - End of the Road

It's taken me this long to update the blog since we didn't really keep it up too much after we decided to get off the road. Finally it is finished and has 2 1/2 years of wonderful memories stored on it. We may do some short trip blogs as we are continuing to travel, and we'll let all of you know if we have new entries, but for now, Two Hams in a Can are signing off.

Dec 27, 2008 - The Sixth Floor and Annie

Before Adam and Laura left Texas, Laura wanted to go to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas which has loads of exhibits about JFK's assassination. Jeff and I had actually been talking about going there since we too had never seen it. It's funny that you can live very close to a major tourist attraction and never see it. It takes someone from out of town to put you there. Anyway, we really enjoyed the museum. We couldn't take pictures of the inside, but the exhibits are very good. I remember so well the day it happened. I was in the 9th grade...

Nov 22, 2008 - Ice, Ice Baby

For our one free weekend since the Christmas show has started at the Gaylord, we kept the kids and decided to take them to the ICE! exhibit at the Gaylord. Jeff and I had gone to see it the first year as an employee perk, but many of the sculptures were covered and the theatrical lighting and music was not going, so this was the first time we got to see the real thing (although we did get an employee discount.) Before we went in, we had our picture taken pretending that we were inside. It was pretty cool - no, make that COLD. It is kept...

Oct 10, 2008 - Marching band and marching skaters

October in Texas is UIL Marching Contest. We attended several competitions where Robert's band showed off their UIL marching show this year. It was about dancing through the ages and began with a primal beat ,then went all the way to modern dancing styles. The segment that got the most crowd response was "Thriller" when the entire band began to do the dance moves from the video. Kaki came to visit for her once yearly trek to Texas and she enjoyed seeing Madeleine and Jean-Luc. We also visited Stephen and Debbie while she was here. We even...

Sep 13, 2008 - House without wheels

Amanda and Robert graciously opened their guestroom to us while we waited for out apartment to be ready. We truly enjoyed the time with the kids, but were quite ready to move into our own place which that date finally came around. We had taken over their garage with all the stuff that we had taken out of the Airstream, and we would occasionally order or buy something else as we saw things on sale that we knew we were going to need. The garage was ready to pop. During this time period, we also put the Airstream up for sale and bought a new...

Jun 19, 2008 - Trip Planning

These are the stops that I plan to make on my trip this summer. I pick up the coach next Friday June 27th and I will travel to Jackson, MS for the first leg of this incredible trip. Earlier this summer, I had the boys after Rob and Megan's wedding and Chase told me he was going to learn about all 43 presidents this summer. He knows how many presidents we've had because last summer I kept telling them we've had 43 presidents but only 1 King (Elvis). I have flash cards with all the president's information as well as flash cards with...
