Apr 4, 2016 - Another beautiful day in the Metroplex

Another day of visiting kinfolks and friends. We started the day with a trip to Betty and Johnny's in Wylie. They fixed lunch for us and we had a good visit. We left there around 1:45 and drove 12 miles to Richardson for a visit with Bill and Donna Plake. Lucky for us they were baby sitting at their son Scott's house so we did not have to drive to Van Alstyne to see them. Enjoyed visiting with prior neighbors. From their we drove over to Mesquite and visited with Bill and Shirley Dophied. Our round trip was about 150 miles. It was good to...

Apr 3, 2016 - Church and visiting

Another beautiful day... and somewhat busy day. We went to Longbranch Community Baptist Church and heard a good sermon, "Does God Answer Prayer" by Bro. Herb Pedersen. We spent some time before and after the service visiting with him and Barbara. With reference to the picture I posted...the building on the left is the original worship center and the building on the right is the Gymnasium/Worship Center...Bro. Herb always has a gym. It was a good morning. We then came back to the RV for lunch and afterward went to Waxahatchie and visited...

Apr 2, 2016 - Travel to Lake Bardwell COE park

We traveled to Lake Bardwell COE (Corp of Eng) park near Ennis by way of Grandbury, Godley, Cleburne, Midlothian, and Waxahachie. The weather is absolutely beautiful...blue sky and warmed up to around 70. It is supposed to be sunny for the next 2-3 days. We are just chillin here on the lake for awhile. We got out and took a walk with Coco and took a few bluebonnet pictures. I hope to get some better ones tomorrow. Not much else to report, but all is good.

Apr 11, 2014 - 4/10/14 Ennis, TX then to Houston

Photos will be added later today....busy schedule....things to do.... WARNING: MOST OF THE PHOTOS IN THIS POST ARE OF THE BLUEBONNETS. Mixed in are a few others but most of them are photos of the vast amount of flowers. We made it to Ennis, TX. We went to the Visitor's Center to get our map of the route to follow. On our way we stopped at a place called the Kolache Depot Bakery. People at the Visitor Center raved about the Kolaches that are made there. They are a Czech pastry. Naturally, we had to try them. We went into the bakery and the...

Apr 9, 2014 - 4/9/14 Dallas, TX

Another good start in the morning thanks to an Alteril the night before and a nice little breakfast in the morning. I don't normally eat breakfast, which I know is not a good thing. We decided to go to the George W. Bush Institute in Dallas to view his artistic abilities, and other aspects of his presidency, so off we went to Dallas. Thank goodness for GPS! We drove thru Shreveport, LA and was tempted to tell Dave to take an exit. So many casinos! But I didn't, we have a long way to go and would have felt very guilty wasting a couple of...

May 26, 2013 - Polka Festival

May 25th, 2013 I went to the 47th annual Polka Festival in Ennis today. This is the 3rd time I have been to the festival. I always enjoy the parade. They had a tornado in Ennis about 2 weeks ago. It hit part of downtown. They had to change the parade route. It looked like a lot of the damage had already been cleaned up. The Polka festival is always a great place to people watch.

May 23, 2013 - On the Road Again...thanks Willie

Left Ennis at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 16 headed to Amarillo for a first night stop. Wanted to be sure be got through Ft. Worth before the morning commuter traffic got too heavy. Arrived in Amarillo at a decent hour mid afternoon with the wind blowing 40+ miles per hour (typical Amarillo weather). We settled in leaving the trailer hooked up to truck to make a quick exit Friday morning headed to Albuquerque.

Mar 6, 2010 - Lake Bardwell

Although there's a touch of spring in the air, this winter has been colder and wetter than usual all over the southern US, so it makes sense to head south again and enjoy the sea coast. The campground on the beach doesn't expect us for a few days, so we drove from thirty miles north of Dallas to thirty miles south of Dallas to an Army Corps of Engineers campground. These federally run facilities let geezers like us camp in beautiful spots for $9/night. They are sometimes challenging to find and tricky to get to, but once you are there, it's...

Jun 3, 2007 - Singing in the rain

We moved out of Treetops on Memorial Day and parked in front of Amanda's house overnight, then moved on May 29th to Lake Bardwell, just to the west of Ennis,TX at the High View CoE park. We've stayed out here many times when we were still working as it was close enough to get to on a Friday night and still have some night left over. We're right on the lake and we sure do like it. Jeff took a picture of one of the cranes who come in every morning to fish. I woke up to see the sunrise one morning (right outside our bedroom window) and saw...
