Dec 11, 2015 - Change of Schedule

We were supposed to be leaving San Antonio today, but Marley's condition has been going down hill all night. So back to the vet. After another exam and xrays, it's still inconclusive. So the recommendation is we go for an ultrasound test. The fibers of the rug will show up on ultrasound, but not on an xray. So here we go to the South Texas Veterinary Specialists. Long story short, yes, there is a blockage and surgery is the only solution. Instead of cruising across the Texas hill country, we spend the afternoon in an animal hospital waiting...

Dec 10, 2015 - The Alamo and Tower of the Americas

Today we're off to the Alamo. It's sacred territory here. They don't even allow photographs inside. We opted for the audio tour and that added a lot to the tour by giving the background of the various exhibits and locations within the Mission. From The Alamo, we walked about six blocks to the Tower of the Americas. This 750 feet tall tower is visible for miles. Somehow, I managed to ride the outside, glass elevator to the top. It's a cloudy day and the dense fog from last night is still lingering, so the view isn't a it's very best.

Dec 9, 2015 - Mission San Jose and Riverwalk

Today, we stayed back to keep an eye on Marley. It's another clear warm day with temperatures around 70.....hard to take. By afternoon everything was still quiet so we took a ride to find the Mission San Jose. This is one of four Spanish Missions here now administered by the National Park Service. It's hard to imagine these austere communities were once so isolated when you see their urban setting today. This evening we all went into downtown San Antonio for dinner and to see the Riverwalk. We found our way to the Riverwalk and strolled it...

Dec 8, 2015 - San Antonio

Today is travel to San Antonio day, but it's not starting off well. Marley had quite a messy "accident" about 2:39 this morning, possibly related to her deciding to eat a bit of the throw rug inside the door on Sunday. About halfway between Houston and San Antonio, one of our traveling companions had a blow out on his left rear inside tire. It appears that when the inside tire blew, to also blew the outer tire completely off the rim. Happily he managed to get off to the side of the road without further damage, not a small thing considering...

This is a movie clip showing the installation of the windshield. This is compliments of our friend Elden Ables. After a total of nine days we are happy to leave for Fort Stockton, TX. It was emotionally draining wondering when the windshield would arrive. Our traveling companions stayed with us the whole time. We are blessed to have such good friends.

Oct 20, 2015 - Elmendorf, Texas

We finished washing the motorhome early in the morning and when we started to put the slide-out out we heard a loud noise and the front part of the slide-out stopped moving but the rear part did not. I then discovered that the shear pin at the front gear drive had sheared. I drove to Lowe's in San Antonio and bought some Grade 8 bolts and lock nuts and with Elden's help we got the slide-out working. Once the slide-out was finished we then drove to Gurene, Texas which is about 45 miles north of the campground between San Antonio, Texas and...

2015 New York Trip

Oct 16, 2015 - Elmendorf Texas

October 16 As mentioned in the previous Journal entry Bill and Margaret’s windshield was severely damaged and they have decided to have the windshield replaced here in San Antonio before returning to the highway and heading home. Marge and I and Elden and Cherie were not going to continue the trip until the three couples could once again terrorize the highways. The new windshield has been ordered and it is on its way from Elkhart, Indiana and will hopefully be here on Monday. If the windshield is here on Monday and it can be installed...

2015 New York Trip

Oct 14, 2015 - Elmendorf, TX

Day 1 - We moved around 11:00 to our new park and got all set up. Everyone got caught up on laundry and we just sat around visiting. I am experiencing a major problem with my laptop trying to transfer pictures so it is going to be a few days before I can clean it up. Day 2 - Today the Hills started having problems with their microwave. The convection part would not work either. The insurance had told them they would have to have it diagnosed by a repair service before they would even start a claim. Ross decided he wanted to have one ready...

OMG! San Antonio has so much to do and see. Many ways to see it. Trolley tickets can be purchased for the day and take you everywhere you want to go on their routes. Just need to know what color you need to get on. The alamo was much more interesting than I thought it would be. So much history has been recorded and artifacts shown. We did manage to get on the riverwalk. It is 3 1/2 miles around if you walk all of it. Many ways to access it. We entered across from the alamo by going under the Hyatt. The walkway is beautiful. Fountains, art,...

First TM Winter Trip

Feb 15, 2009 - Brauning Lake RV Resort, Elmendorf, Texas

Arrive at Lake Brauning RV resort to begin our 4th job with GTI site Maps. This park is located about 25 miles south of San Antonio and has received good reviews. We are hopeful that THIS place will have enough businesses be able to sponsor some ad support for the park, although in this economy nothing suprises us anymore.

Dec 17, 2008 - Elmendorf, TX

In our perpetual quest for warmth we are headed to Florida via San Antonio, Texas. Yes, I know, odd route but that is just how it ended up. We spent the last two days trying to stay warm at an RV resort near Bastrop, TX. Other than a few games of pool in the clubhouse and a quick dip in the hot tub we pretty much spent the entire time snuggled up inside Clyde due to the winter cold front that pushed its way through the area. Currently we have tucked in for the night at a very nice little RV park outside of Elmendorf, Texas. (Elmendorf is 17...

Nov 2, 2008 - San Antonio, Texas

We have arrived in San Antonio, Texas. It was a pleasant three hours from Amistad NWR yesterday. We are staying at the Braunig Lake RV park on the south side of town. It is close to Braunig Lake and they have their own little fishing pond in the park. We chose this park on a recommendation from Gary and JoElla, who have stayed here before. It is a Passport America Park, so the rent is 1/2 price - good deal. We are so happy to see green growing things and green grass. And the humidity is above 10! We do enjoy the desert southwest, but my...
