Apr 24, 2013 - Nearing End To Hosting Duties

From Texana Park & Campground – Edna, TX As April is quickly coming to a close so is our present hosting commitment. During our second month here at the park we were joined by two new host couples………..D.L. & Mary and Terry & Lillian. This hosting crew for April all hail from Texas unlike the March gang that had a mix from Ohio, Canada and us from Texas. It is this constant turnover of new hosts from all regions of the United States and areas of Canada that allows continued building of ones network of RV friends. Speaking of friends, Ron and...

Apr 1, 2013 - First Month Behind Us

From Texana Park & Campground – Edna, TX First month of our two month hosting commitment is behind us now. We have really enjoyed the beautiful weather that has accompanied the first half of our stay………for the most part cool nights and days where temps have not ventured but to the low 80’s! Think by now we have once again learned the lay of the park and acquainted ourselves with the new management expectations of the host program now that the park is privately owned and no longer associated with the state. As I stated this past month there...

Mar 18, 2013 - Hosting Update

From Texana Park & Campground – Edna, TX Time has just flown by…….already been here going on three weeks. The park has really been busy the last week to ten days with Spring Break and folks just wanting to get out with family and friends to enjoy the wildlife setting of this old state park, fish in the lake, ride or walk the trails and just sit back with campfires enjoying life and what it has to offer. The weather has really been great the entire time we have been here and I think this also contributed to the park being full………….25 to 30...

Mar 1, 2013 - A Return To A Favorite Park

From Texana Park & Campground – Edna, TX We have moved south of Houston to one of our oldest and most favorite campgrounds for the next two months. We left behind a beautiful and peaceful wooded park on a lake for another just as peaceful. This one however having good phone service and adequate internet accessibility. As some already know this park was in the Texas State Park system until the middle of last year when due to cuts in the State Park budget in Texas it was decided this park would be no longer maintained by the state. Since...

Apr 2, 2011 - Around the Brackenridge Recreational Complex

Today we started to head North as it is starting to warm up in these here parts. Our first stop was to the Brackenridge Recreational Complex which is near Edna, Texas. We came here to see if we could find the Pileated Woodpecker. We had camped here before when it was really busy so we hoped we would have a better chance of finding one when it wasn't quite so busy. We walked through the woods many times but no woodpeckers! While we were here we ran into Robert and Nancy Hans. They are also Mobile Suites owners that we met before at an SOITC...

I always look forward to Easter because it tells me that Spring is here and warm weather with it, so Happy Easter to everyone, hope you were all able to be together and hunt Easter Eggs or just enjoy the company of friends and family. I haven’t been posting anything because we haven’t done anything of note. We hosted for the month of January at Lake Texana State Park and spent February and March in Hitchcock at our “home” park, Lily’s By the Bay. I have been keeping doctor appointments, some for regular checkups and some as a result of...

From Lake Texana State, TX Well since last making a journal entry, we have fished with a class of 1st Graders, found and returned missing children to their parents, attended yet another County Fair and enjoyed some homemade ice Park – Edna cream with some of the other host couples. We also enjoyed seeing the Phillies send the Dodgers off to enjoy their off season last night. I am sure that at least one other Philly fan back at BP in Texas City celebrated the win and a trip to the World Series. Randy might have even gone out for a late...

Oct 6, 2008 - Retirement Of "Big Red"

From Lake Texana State Park – Edna, TX Boy, how time flies! Sorry it has been so long since my last journal entry. As you are aware, we are hosting in the State Park near Edna, TX. This time around, we have the added enjoyment of having our friends; Sonny and Linda co-host with us. So far, we have only driven over to nearby El Campo to check out their Super Wal-Mart and our two drives over to Richwood. The destination of Richwood actually began some months ago with us contemplating a replacement for “Big Red”. Originally, we had thought of...

Sep 22, 2008 - Round Two Of State Park Hosting

From Lake Texana State Park – Edna, TXMade our trek from Georgetown to Lake Texana on Thursday. We had no problems along the way and arrived here at the park about 1 o’clock giving us time to set up and then go into Edna to eat at Palacios Mexican Restaurant. This has become a must for us each time we stay at the park. The bad thing, we will be here for at least 6 weeks and I am sure that will not be our only visit. That guacamole will be calling us several more times! On the drive down we went through LaGrange and when we stopped for a...

May 29, 2008 - No Longer "Rookies"

From Lake Texana State Park – Edna, TX Well only 2 more days left in our month of hosting. We have truly enjoyed the experience and the time has just flown by. We were lucky to have had two other host couples; Charles & Claudette and Phil & Helen that took us under their wing and made our “rookie” term of hosting one we will always remember. For sure, this volunteer work at state parks will not end on Saturday. In fact, we will be back at this park to host in October and then move over to Brazos Bend State Park in November to host. We will...
