Jan 3, 2018 - Edinburg, TX

Our first Texas stop was an overnighter at Gulf Coast RV in Beaumont, TX. This is a really nice Passport America park with concrete pads, patios, well maintained facilities and wide concrete interior roads. This is one of the areas that were hit hard with the 2017 hurricanes. We were pleased to see that they survived quite well. The park provides all guests with a delightful continental breakfast featuring “bake-your-own” Texas shaped waffles. It’s a nice way to be welcomed to Texas. The weather was turning cold so we cut our six day stay...

Feb 7, 2016 - Plans of mice and men????

Just when you think you have things settled.....BOOM..... Thursday we drove over to Mission to finalize the lease on the space in Hidden Valley with Erv and Donna. We drove to the lot first to look at some things we had thought of. Yes, it still looks just as perfect as it did when we first saw it. After spending some time there checking out the Verizon MiFi to make sure we had a good internet signal and also a phone signal, we drove around the neighborhood several times to get our bearings and then to find Erv and Donna's place in the...

Feb 3, 2016 - A Fun Day

Today started earlier than usual. I had the alarm set for 8:00am, but something woke me up at 7:30 so I just stayed awake until the alarm went off. By then Jackie was up and eating his breakfast. While he dressed for our long day, I had my bowl of Cheerios. Then I got ready and Chuck & Sheila picked us up at 10:00. Denny & Jackie followed in their Jeep and we headed out to the interstate toward Donna, TX. It was a beautiful, sunny day with the ever present wind blowing. It was cool but not cool enough for me to wear a jacket even though the...

Feb 2, 2016 - It's February already???

January is just a blur......I absolutely can't believe its February already. Our friends and new Treasure Lake owners Denny & Jackie and Chuck & Sheila arrived in early January. They are parked on the street behind us and side by side so we can visit back and forth quite easily. However I am leery about going through the grass because of the critters that bite me. There are some fire-ants and something like no-see-ums that the regulars call chiggers. They aren't like the chiggers in Arkansas, but when they bite, you sure do know it. Anyway...

Dec 25, 2015 - It's Christmas already

How can it be Christmas already????? We just got here didn't we???? Time is flying by so fast. We have been just chilling out and spending a lot of time watching basketball and football on TV. We did take one afternoon and went down to Mission and saw Don & Deane and visited for awhile. We got to see their new park model. It is really nice and has that unmistakable new home smell to it. Deane has it fixed up really cute on the inside. We went to Cheddars while we were that close and had a delicious meal. I got a gift card from there for my...

Dec 6, 2015 - We made it.....

Let me get you all caught up on our trip. Last Wednesday we were still in Belton, TX. Jackie's brother, Allen, came over about noon and stayed until about 4:00. He and Jackie had a good time. They went out to get us burgers and fries for lunch from a diner there in town. They were pretty good and the fries were good too. After Allen left we started getting the motorhome ready for the last leg of our trip to Edinburg. It didn't take long to get the inside ready and Jackie decided to wait until Thursday morning to do anything outside. The...

Dec 14, 2014 - December 13-14, 2014 – Alamo and Edinburg, Texas

December 13-14, 2014 – Alamo and Edinburg, Texas December 13 – Since I didn’t walk yesterday, I decided to walk today. For a Saturday morning, there were quite a few people out. All the folks who own dogs have to get up and get out to walk them regardless of the day of the week or the weather. This afternoon, I ran a couple of errands and spent the rest of the time reading my Christmas books. December 14 – Today I went to La Pastorela/A Shepherd’s Play at the Museum of South Texas. I got there about 10 minutes before they opened. I knew it...

Dec 10, 2014 - December 10, 2014 – Edinburg, Texas

December 10, 2014 – Edinburg, Texas It was cloudy this morning. It was fairly warm, but the breeze blowing made it too cool to sit outside. If the sun had been shining, it would have been nice. However, the clouds kept it from getting warm enough to sit out. So, I took off for the Museum of South Texas in Edinburg. I got just a glimpse of this museum last year when I went to the Day of the Dead celebration there. It was far too crowded to really see the exhibits that day, and I just didn’t get back over there. I remedied that today. It is a...

Sep 5, 2010 - The week of Sept 5th

Sun Sept 5, met up with Denny’s friend Bill Harris and visited their home. We stayed home on Labor day and Bill came by to see our RV. Tuesday was spent traveling south to San Juan and the city of Alamo TX. While most of TX we have traveled was uninhabited, this part of the lower valley has hundreds of RV Resorts, some have as many as 500-1300 sites. They have an expressway going to and from that reminded me of MPLS. We decided to stay at the campground north of town. It is near Bill’s home and all amenities like grocery etc. I have...

On the Open Range

Oct 30, 2009 - Edinburg, Texas

We have made it to the Texas Rio Grande Valley. It was so hot and humid yesterday that the first thing I did after we plugged into our site was turn on the air conditioner! Our trip from Marfa (my last entry) to here does have a few unusual moments to share with you. One concerns my fear of heights and the other concerns driving at night in this part of Texas. Of course, as many of you know, I really don’t like driving Clyde over super high bridges. Well, unbeknownst to me, there is a really high bridge that crosses the Pecos River on US...

Feb 23, 2009 - Side trip to Brownsville and Port Isabel

Today was a trip to Brownsville to see the shrimp boats (never did find them) and Port Isabel to do some fishing. Port Isabel is a neat little seaside town with the lighthouse (no longer in use) in the town square and little shops along the side street. We were going to climb the lighthouse (there were landings on the way up where I could stop and rest if need be) but when we got inside, we found out there was a charge to do so and neither of us had any money with us! So, my Great Climb was cancelled. After that disappointment, we went down...
