Apr 6, 2019 - Amarillo by morning, or maybe afternoon

A few things to mention before we move on to today's travels, now that we've had a chance to read up on where we've been - yesterday we traveled the Magdalena Trail (Highway 60), which was still used as recently as the 1930's to herd cattle to the rail head in Magdalena. Trail was up to 10 miles wide to allow farmers to find grazing land and every 10 miles a well was dug to provide water for the cattle. Can't imagine taking cattle through those high elevations. Speaking of elevations, yesterday trying to make sandwiches for lunch, the...

2016 Stan & Lorenda

Jun 1, 2015 - A Long Day on the Road

Our first day on the road is always long. With a 6 month old puppy adjusting to riding that far, it seems like it takes forever. There's a lot whining and stopping for breaks until he finally settles in and crashes. Just a little background about our puppy. Ranger (RJ) is a Shetland Sheepdog that we brought home in January at the age of 7 weeks. He's a great dog who loves people and kids and dogs. He's not fond of moving cars, bikes or runners, but we're working on it. This first night we spent in Dumas, Tx at a place they call an RV...

May 30, 2015 - Surviving Texas

Rain, rain go away!!!!! The last few weeks have been wet. Most of the streams have become rivers and rivers have developed water falls and spread into crop land and pastures. We have been fortunate that our campgrounds have been high enough to not be flooded, but the roads in & out were questionable at times. Rain has come in 10” at a time, in sheets with thunderstorms. We had a couple of tornados go around us and managed to miss being hit by hail. Larry's brother called and stated he had a lead on a person in Austin that would put pontoons...

Apr 21, 2015 - Denver bound

We spent another week on Belton Lake at Westcliff Park after Tammy and Cassidy left. I would imagine George and Kathy was glad we were finally leaving. We did have a good time with them, most of it involves eating. The Blue Bonnets were really pretty in there yard. We are on our way to Denver CO to see our great grandson Gunnar. He was born in Janurary it will be great to finally hold him. It will take us 4 days to get their the way we travel plus we wanted to do a different route that we hadn't done before. So we are running mostly back...

Don't wake me up

Jun 25, 2011 - Dumas again!

Last leg of our trip. We had some mechanical problems with the trailer in Kit Carson, Colorado. We had stopped for lunch when we noticed the trailer was listing to the right. After looking at it we found that we had broke a leaf spring on the back axle. Luckily we were directed to a mechanic shop south of Kit Carson that could help us. We limped to the mechanic shop which had already closed for the day. The owner called his grandson out to help us. He didn't have the exact piece that we needed but he had one that would work until we could...

This was our first day of our journey with the 3 Old Crows. We got off on a good start and headed up Hwy 287 from Pilot Point RV park. Going on the way we the outside temp got to 111 degrees. It sure will be nice to get to the higher elevation and cooler temps. Everyone is excited and can't wait to get to our first stop. We are going to make it to Dumas and stay in their courtesy park in town. We have stayed there before. It is a large parking lot with electrical hookups spaced out thru the lot.

Hello Everyone....We made it from Burlington Colorado to Dumas Texas today....We saw lots of Flat, and I do mean Flat Country on our drive to Dumas. We are staying in the City Park called Texoma Park. We had only planned on staying here overnight but a cold front and big winds kept us here for a couple of days. We are again right by the railroad tracks and we did hear them coming thru, but it wasn't that bad. We are gonna make it to Bowie Texas tomorrow and stay there for a few days on the lake....Catch you down the road..!!!!
