Feb 2, 2017 - God Blessed Texas...Y'all

Round 1 2017 complete. Despite my continual allergy issues throughout January, my month in the Hill Country has come to a close. I learned a few things over the month. I truly love the hill country of Texas. And, cedar allergies are brutal. Allergies are nothing new to me, but it was a daily struggle. Yet, the allergies and 5 days of rain didn't slow us down much. There is so much beauty in the hill country. The clear Blanco River, Lake Travis, and the blue deep hole of Jacob's Well were a sight to be seen. We did plenty of hiking. Our...

Mar 31, 2014 - "The Texas Gate" A Lone Star Tradition

After we arrived in Texas, last December, I started taking pictures of Texas Gates located on the local back roads. Lots of things to see in Texas if you get off the main roads. All the roads we traveled were good, just that some did lack standard markings. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and the ride. I did a little research on Texas Gates, and found absolutely nothing. Guessing that these gates originally were just to keep livestock in and rustlers out. Not sure why each is so different. Could be the Ranchers and their families are...

Jan 4, 2014 - A Hill Country Drive Hayes County Texas

A nice day to take a little tour of the Texas Hill Country along the Farm to Market Roads (FM). This was a short excursion I hope will give you a nice look at what I enjoy about the Hill Country. It seems to me that every Texas Ranch or small property has a Texas Style Gate. I included a few of them in this entry. There are several creeks in the area along with the Guadalupe River criss crossing the Farm to Market roads that we traveled today. I always feel great when I come across a head of Texas Longhorns. In additions to the pictures...

Mar 18, 2013 - Springtime In Dripping Springs

This is our last entry for Dripping Springs Texas. Nancy's Birthday was today and Bandit and I took a ride on one of her favorite roads. The Old Creek Road is a short cut, well almost, into Dripping Springs. Not many springtime flowers this year because of the drought, so thought I would take pictures of the various animals in the area. Hope you enjoy because it was a great reminiscing ride for us. We are heading back toward Ohio this Thursday and I bought some RV Anti Freeze because I might winterize the RV just in case. We also got a...

Mar 8, 2013 - Red Horse Ranch. A Side Trip On A Less Traveled Road

I left the campground heading to Hamilton Pool Park. It is not that far from Dripping Springs or Bee Cave Texas. When I got to the park entrance I decided not to tour the park as the roads leading to the park were some of the best scenery I have seen in Hill Country. Hamilton Pool Road has many roads leading off of it and one was Bell Springs Road. Many of you have been following our trip journals for over 5 years and know that many times we do not visit the well known tourist attractions. I have always found it more interesting to sightsee...

Feb 19, 2013 - Swan Song Dripping Springs

Les and Sherry who built the park in 2005 sold the park this year. As a celebration of all the winter texans that came here Les and Sherry cooked their last Brisket. It will also be our Swan Song here at Cottonwood. On this trip I traveled to many of the spots that Nancy, our dogs, and I have visited over the years. After this trip Bandit and I will be moving on to different places. I included pictures of our days at Cottonwood. People say 2012 was a bad year for me, but I can tell you I am so thankful for the 53 years Nancy and I had...

Jan 2, 2013 - Dripping Springs Texas Our First Stop

The journey to Dripping Springs TX was a wet one. I drove as many miles as I could to get out of the bad weather. Our first stop was just South of Nashville TN where we found a welcome Flying J. A warm dinner and a dog walk and everything seemed about normal. Weather is still wet the next morning and we headed out to Texas. That night after fighting heavy rain all dsy we found a Huddle Inn Restaurant that said we could park in their lot for the evening. After a Chicken Fried Steak Dinner at the Huddle we retired for the evening. This was in...

Jun 3, 2012 - Dripping Springs

A beautiful and rather cool morning in Dripping Springs with seemingly less humidity! We all gathered in the kitchen for coffee, bagels fresh berries and yogurt. The kibbutzing picked up as if we never stopped last night! We decided to spend the day in the Hill Country. We first stopped at Terra Verde Vineyard and Olive Oil. We didn’t do any wine tasting but did taste some wonderful organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We then drove to Johnson City for lunch at the Silver K Café. I had a delicious half sandwich of chicken salad (with...

Jun 1, 2012 - Dripping Springs, TX

Again it is overcast and we took a nice bike ride on the greenbelt. We are going to the Roadtrek service which is only 20 miles from camp and somewhat on the way to Dripping Springs. I had work to do but Bob met with the Roadtrek service fellow who could not have been more helpful. He fixed cabinets and registered all of the warranty issues (waste tube, floor heater, back screen etc.) we have had in the Roadtrek system. Weather remained overcast as we drove route 46 to 281 which will be a less congested than interstate 35 into Austin....

Mar 20, 2012 - Dripping Springs Texas. Cottonwood RV BBQ and Birthday Celebration

March 20 2012 Dripping Springs Texas Cottonwood Creek RV Park A whole new crowd of RVers came to Cottonwood to celebrate the Spring Break. Also during this week a fellow RVer was celebrating his 21st Birthday for the 50th or so time. The park decided it was time for another Texas Barbeque and this was the best one so far. I know I say that about every BBQ, but the Brisket and all the trimmings are really great. The campground owners, Les and Sherry, provide the Brisket and the cook. The RVers provided all the trimmings. You can see just...

Jan 20, 2012 - Campground Fish Fry

Cottonwood Fish Fry January 20 2012 What a day to have a picnic and fish fry. The weather was in the 70's, no wind and the Sky was Wall to Wall Blue. It was a potluck where the RVers brought their side dishes and the Campground provided the fish and hush puppies. Like all of our campground cookouts this was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Have a great week Rick, Nancy, Bandit and Belle
