Dec 7, 2015 - Postcard 12

November December 5-7, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 12 Today we learned that the renters held a haunted house at the rental each Halloween, complete with hanging bodies from the ceiling to a realistic graveyard in the front lawn. They replaced all the light bulbs in the house with red ones and the neighbors got to walk aimlessly through the whole house. Steve said we are definitely coming back next year at Halloween to walk through their new house that they purchased; which happens to be about a quarter of a mile from the rental. We...

Dec 4, 2015 - Postcard 11

December 2-4, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 11 Okay, the painters are done and everything looks phenomenal! Steve is in shock. He can’t believe what difference paint makes; he even said he would live here, regardless of the neon pee stains. I must admit, it really does look great. The painters went above and beyond what we asked them to do. In celebration of finishing, I bought the painters cupcakes. I carried the dozen of chocolate perfections across the lawn, fell into a one foot hole, and landed face down with frosting, chocolate and...

Dec 2, 2015 - Postcard 10

December 2, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 10 Next, was getting a few painting estimates for the rental house. One of the painters I called had a 714 number as well as a TX number. It turns out he has been in TX for 8 years, but owns a house in Fullerton, about 5 blocks from our California house. He told us when we get back to CA to drop by his house and say hello to his brother Pedro. He asked if we needed to sit down before hearing his estimate, needless to say we didn’t use him. We chose Dan’s Painting, who will start on Monday and...

Nov 25, 2015 - Postcard 9

November 25-28, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 9 Justin, Nicole, Bryce and Sydney got in late tonight. The family has grown to 6 adults and five children. Steve and I moved to the rental to sleep since the house was full. Needless to say we bleached, and disinfected everything before taking up residence. I also made Steve put down plastic under the air mattress and our bare feet never touched the floor or carpet. It looked bizarre with a big sheet of green plastic on the bedroom floor, which Steve dubbed the kill room. The kids got...

Nov 23, 2015 - Postcard 8

November 14-23, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 8 It’s so nice to be around family. We are enjoying the kids and watching them grow by the minute. Music is all around us, piano, guitars, drums, singing, streaming music. There is also a lot of picture taking going on; we have a budding Nat Geo photographer in the group. We have been playing board games, going out to lunch and dinner occasionally and just hanging out together. We have also been working on the rental house this week. After the shock of the infamous black light, I was...

Nov 14, 2015 - Postcard 7

November 14, 2015 Road Trip Journal: Postcard 7 Yes, we are in Texas! Since Layne had a gig at Barnes and Nobles in Southlake, we went directly there to surprise everyone. It was great to see her perform. We’re so proud of her. Next was coffee and conversation before heading home where we saw Scott, Bella, and Easton. Then it was over to the rental house. The tenants moved out last week, so we needed to assess whether they deserved their security deposit back. It wasn’t too bad other than needing a fresh coat of paint and having over a...

Aug 18, 2013 - North Texas Fair Parade

August 17th, 2013 I met my mom and we went to the North Texas Fair Parade in Denton. The parade seemed smaller this year than in years past. After the parade, we walked over to the courthouse and found it open. It has been a long time since we had been inside it. We went through it and the museum. Musicians had gathered on the courthouse lawn and were having a jam session.

Jun 10, 2012 - Post Oak Place RV Park

We arrived in Denton TX at the Post Oak Place Campground. Unexciting day washing clothes at the local laundromat at $2.50 per load! Was a good thing we only had 3 loads. We went to visit with very dear friends that I had not see in 30+ years. Walter Gene and Pansy Giles. She had a stroke about 3 years ago but is doing excellent except for some vision problems. Had a very nice visit Saturday night and got up on Sunday and went to church with them. Nice Assembly of God here in Denton. Good service and lunch afterward. Sat and talked for about...

Dec 27, 2010 - An Anniversary and a Kick in the Gut!

Everything was going as expected here in Denton until today, our 45th anniversary. We had a brief visit from our friend Theresa Wilde, who drove up from Austin to spend a few hours with us. It's always good to see and visit with Theresa. Son, Scott, arrived on the 17th to spend the Christmas season with us and his high school friends in the Dallas area. We had a good visit and a good Christmas. Then came today. About 10 days ago Sue had a uterine biopsy done. Since we had not heard from the gynecologist we were confident that all was well....

Dec 2, 2010 - A Night with Tish

By far my favorite singer is Tish Hinojosa. Tish now lives in Germany with her second husband, so opportunities to see her in person in the United States are scarce. I was delighted when I found out that she would be doing a concert in Grand Prairie, only about 30 miles south of Denton. I was even happier to learn that her guitar-playing sidekick, Marvin Dyhkus, would be there along with bass guitarist, Glenn Kawamoto, and keyboard player, Chip Dolan. Sue and I went to the concert and enjoyed many of our Tish favorites like, "West Side of...

Dec 1, 2010 - A Quiet Month

It's been a quiet month in Lake Wobegon - I mean Denton! We did have a nice dinner at the home of Manuel and Velma Reyes. Manuel cooked up some great pork tenderloin and we enjoyed reminiscing and getting updated on the happenings of the past year. Yesterday we headed back over to White Rock Lake. This time Arnie joined us and we met Ann Shipman for a quiet walk around the lake. We took our time and had lunch along the way but everyone made it around the 9-mile long trail. Meanwhile our doctor and dentists visits are going well and we are...
