Mar 5, 2012 - Bye bye Rio, Hola Rey

Feb 11, 2012 - Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

Still overcast and showery but we started off to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to see if we could find some Whopping Cranes, they are actually our summertime neighbours in Wood Buffalo National Park in the Northwest Territories. We stopped first in Fulton to visit the Fulton mansion built between 1874 and 1877. The owners George and Harriet Fulton were way ahead of their time, the fireplaces were not wood burning they had ducts for heating from a furnace in the basement, and the kitchen was in the basement, houses usually had outdoor...

Feb 9, 2012 - Port Aransas

February 9. Windy and raining when we left Harlingen. After we said good bye to Doug and Gail, we took the costal route to Port Aransas. Port Aransas is on beautiful Mustang Island, near Corpus Christi. The desert is showing some new growth from all of the rain. We are staying a really nice park, just over the sand dunes is a beautiful beach, not many people out on the beach in this weather. We could warm up in the hot tub February 10. Grey days and rain showers are not great for sight seeing, but we drove around Corpus Christie and did...

Dec 29, 2011 - Visiting Our Past

From Rob & Bessie Welder Park – Sinton, TX Have you ever wanted to go back in time to places and memories that played a big part in shaping your life as you know it? Well today we decided to do just that and visit three area cities/towns that were a big part of our individual lives and the beginning of our lives together. We found ourselves in the towns that we both moved to at the ages of 12 and both of us in the 7th grade. My new town was Robstown in 1959 and Rudy’s new town was Mathis in January 1957. Today we searched out the houses we...

Nov 18, 2011 - Hatch RV Park, Corpus Christi, Texas

Hi Y'all...... We arrived here in Corpus Christi at noon yesterday and at the registration office met Susan and Michelle so we quickly parked in Claire and Lawrence's Lot #507 and went to Churches Chicken for lunch then H.E.B. to refill the food larder. We returned to the Park to search out Elise and Guy to find everyone at the Patio having their Thursday afternoon Ice Cream Social. We were able to give greetings to all at the same time. Just prior to heading to the Patio we ran into Joe & Natalie just outside our trailer. Joe & Natalie we...

Oct 27, 2011 - Corpus Christi, TX

Today was another hot, humid day is South Texas. It was time to have the oil/filter changed again in the Roadtrek, so we headed over to Allen Samuels Chevrolet in Corpus Christi for the service. Afterwards, we shopped at Sam's Club and Walmart before heading out to Mustang Island, Hwy. 361. We drove up to Port Aransas, where we plan to stay a few days, starting tomorrow. Port Aransas looks like any typical little beach town. The Virginia's on the Bay restaurant looked inviting, so we stopped in for lunch. Their special of the day was garlic...

Blessed To Travel

May 16, 2011 - Mustang Island in May

We took a maiden voyage to Corpus Christie to have Thanksgiving with our older son. I had trouble with the television cable connection. So I determined that I would replace the television with a new digital LCD television and take out the TV in the RV’s bedroom since we do not watch TV in bed. In putting the new TV in, I learned that there was a switch to take the TV antenna off an amplifier and allow the cable connection not to be amplified. This was the original problem with the TV, but now I have a TV with a DVD player and High...

Apr 20, 2011 - Corpus Christi, TX

We had a great day at the State of Texas Aquarium. We also spent a couple hours at Padre Island. There is a cute little island between Corpus Christi and Padre Island that has only 2 restaurants and both have fresh seafood. Of course, anyone who knows me will know where we had lunch! Today Lane decided that I needed to surrender my navigator's permit. I had him go north when we should have gone south AND the accountant in me could not tell the difference between I-35 and I-37. Needless to say, the Honda does make good u-turns. We are...

Apr 20, 2011 - Corpus Christi, TX

The part of the journal is not completeWe arrived in Corpus Christi October 13, 2010. We decided to spend the winter here to see how we like being in one place for a extended period of time. After spending 6 months in one place, we have decided that it isn’t for us, we will be moving around more often next winter. While Corpus Christi is a beautiful place, the wind really gets to you after a while. While in Corpus Christi we were able to renew friendship we make while in Alaska. We met Kay & Marlin Pihl in Soldontha ..... We have left...

Apr 19, 2011 - Corpus Christi, TX

Well, after spending 6 months in Corpus Christi, we are heading out for the Canadian Maritime Provinces. While we did visit many places, we mostly used the time to decompress from our 4 1/2 month odyssey to Alaska and Canada. You can visit our original website - just put web.me.com/regmikewall in your browser and you will be taken there. We enjoyed meeting new friends and meeting some old friends we met in Alaska. Bob & Fanchone live in Corpus Christi and Kay & Marlin are full-timers like us and we will meet up again in the Canadian...

Mar 27, 2011 - Camping in Mustang Island/Corpus Christi

For the last week or so, we have enjoyed being closer to the sea, namely the Gulf of Mexico. We drove first to Port Aransas where we caught the small, really small ferry which in less than 15 minutes carried us across a stretch of water to Mustang Island. On either side of us were numerous brush-covered dunes. Before we arrived at the State Park, we could hear the roaring of waves on the beach. If Jean had had his way, we would have camped on the beach. However,we joined the rest of the "flock" on the designated concert pads! How peaceful &...
