Jun 7, 2019 - Len and Betty's Day 2

I went shooting with Len, Scott, Ryan, and 2 of their shooting buddies. I did OK considering I haven't had a shotgun in my hands since 1979. Scott and Allison brought BBQ from one of their favorite joints - it was great and I'm pretty hard to please in that department. We celebrated Nolan's, Landon's, and Len's birthdays with ice cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie. Ryan took me for a ride in his 700 HP Hell Cat. Tomorrow AM we take off for San Antonio for a graduation there on Sunday.

Jun 5, 2019 - Kerrville to Conroe

We made the drive on I-10 east to Houston then north to Len’s house. Lots of traffic, construction, narrow lanes, and rain… what a fun day. We arrived Houston a couple of hours later than anticipated, and lucky us, hit rush hour traffic in the rain. They are not courteous drivers here, so I put on my Los Angeles driver’s hat and fit right in. He with the most lug nuts wins. As I was struggling through all of it, I couldn’t help to think how much better it was than 200 years ago doing it in a covered wagon. Nonetheless, it was still a...

Feb 16, 2019 - Crighton Theatre, Conroe

Tonight I went with a group on the CARE transit van to Conroe to see the musical, “42nd Street” at the historic Crighton Theatre. I enjoyed it very much. There are some very talented people involved with this theater. It almost made me tired watching the tap dancers. I just wish I could bottle some of their energy! On the way to Conroe we were delayed about 45 minutes by a terrible wreck just ahead of us in which a little Nissan SUV ran into the side of the engine compartment of a pickup truck. The car was demolished and even the truck was...

Oct 27, 2018 - “Into the Woods” at Conroe

Tonight I went with several others to Conroe to attend an action-packed performance of “Into the Woods” at the Crighton Theatre. We enjoyed it but left after Act I because it would have been after midnight when we returned home if we had stayed to the end. “Into the Woods” is a musical which intertwines the plots of several fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Rapunzel” and “Cinderella”, as well as several...

Jul 14, 2018 - “Willy Wonka” in Conroe

Tonight I went with a group in the CARE bus to Conroe to the historic Crighton Theatre (1934) to see Stage Right’s presentation of Willy Wonka. Since I’m never around children, I’m not used to their speech, so it often was difficult for me to understand the little actors. They were cute, though. In 1934 Conroe Mayor Harry M. Crighton hired architect Blum E. Hester to build a movie palace similar to the great Majestic Theatre in Houston using native stone like that of the capitol in Austin. Opening night was November 26, 1935, in the...

It was about 5 pm by the time we setup camp and was able to drive about 20 miles to Conroe to visit my nieces. Due to our late arrival, we had a nice albeit short visit before returning to the...

Today was a drive day of about 275 miles. We will be staying at a Thousand Trails campground just outside of Conroe, TX. Elden has two nieces he wanted to visit as long as we were close. The campground is located on Lake Conroe which is very large. All of the good sites were gone but for one night it was not a big deal. Tomorrow we leave for San Antonio.

Moved out to Tommy and Olga's this morning. John and Flo are here from last year and have developed a beautiful vegetable garden and Olga has made lovely flowers and plantings along the back of the property with a nice little fence to set it all off. Tommy has added 2 more full hookups. Vera and Casi just came in from their first run around the property and are now playing in the coach like they had had no exercise!!!

Our 2012 trip to MD.

Apr 13, 2012 - Wood's Ranch

Wonderful week out at the Wood's Ranch. They have done a fantastic job of installing 4 FHU 50amp sites with great stone sites with some shade and some sun. Played games and learned Fast Track on Steroids which is much more fun than the regular Fast Track. Vera and Casi were in heaven running loose several times a day on the park like setting all fenced with hogwire. Great to see Tommy and Olga again after a year and nice to meet other campers Flo and John who will be living there for a while and planning a little vegetable...

Jan 15, 2012 - Conroe, Texas

January 2 was a travel day and we drove about 100 miles to Thousand Trails, Lake Conroe. This location is about an hour north of Houston and a really bustling part of Texas. I think Conroe, the nearest large community, is a bedroom community for Houston. Lake Conroe is a water source for Houston. We should have searched harder for different things to do, because an internet search didn't reveal much. The lake is the main attraction and it's almost empty because of the long drought. We visited two cousins and the son of a very good friend,...
