Dec 10, 2017 - Columbus TX

Sun, 10 Dec: Our fifth day on the road... It was another cool one at the Kerrville Texas Wal*Mart. It dripped to 28°F overnite and our salon was a chilly 46° at wakeup. We ran the bedroom furnace at its lowest setting for most of the nite so it wasn't too bad. Around six Sandi braved the chill and started the generator so we could run both furnaces on high. Of course, a lot of snogging also helped... We got things ready for the road and Bob rolled wheels about half past nine. We retraced yesterday's route; FM 783 to I 10 and...

Jan 13, 2017 - Stop over for a break and a cousin

Wow ! ! ! we made it. Don't know how, except Rebecca helped drive a good portion of the distance. I don't know how some guys do it by themselves, I'm so glad to have a lady that helps me drive. By the way, this was a 484 mile day ! We had not planned on that kind of distance, did not look at the maps and figure it out. Anyway... Here's a piece of advise for all you "newbie's" out there. If your plan for a days drive is to get on one of the many Interstates, paid for by your hard earned tax dollars. Here's what you do, before you hit the on...

Dec 31, 2016 - Columbus, TX - Colorado River RV (TT)

December 8 thru December 31 12/8/16 – 12/10/16 Gulf Coast RV Beaumont After leaving Pass Christian, MS on Dec 8th we stopped at the Gulf Coast RV Park in Beaumont, TX. This is a favorite stop for us due to its convenience, the quality of the park and the fact this park provides a real nice breakfast. We haven’t visited here for a few years and we were happy to see that they still provide biscuits & gravy, fruit, cereal, juice, bagels, coffee and other miscellaneous items as well as the facilities to make your own Texas shaped waffles. We...

Oct 20, 2016 - Cen-Tex Campout at Columbus

THURSDAY This morning, after my customary stop at Discount Tire, I headed for Columbus. I arrived at the RV park at noon but it was about 2:00 o’clock before I was finally settled in a site. The first issue was that the sewer connection was in very poor condition. Our wagon master, Bruce, dug a bunch of grass and weeds from around it and then repaired the part that goes into the ground. Then there was no electric power to my coach. I plugged into the other connection but still had no power. I called the office and the woman said that she...

This is the first time I have been to this campground. This is a small campground and not a whole lot here. But they do have several activities weekly. It was hot the first several days here but the last two I have not even turned on the A/C. No square dancing close - I am going to Media Lake TT Wednesday.

Feb 14, 2016 - Columbus, TX

Sun, 14 Feb: Happy Valentine Day We had a remarkably restful nite at the Kerrville Wal*Mart. Usually the 24-hour stores are fairly noisy, but this one wasn't. At least it got quiet once the alcohol and testosterone-laden children and their noisy cars are put to bed. We were both awake before six so we got out of bed and made ready for the road. It was a cloudy and gloomy morning to the point that when we departed at half past seven we had the lights on. It didn't take us long to get back on I 10 heading east toward San Antonio. Outside San...

Dec 22, 2014 - Columbus, Texas

December 18 Our drive from Opelousas to Columbus, TX, was just over 300 miles. We did it in a little more than six hours. That's because I did most of the driving and I don't stop. When we left Opelousas, we went west on US190. When 190 turned north, we were on LA12, headed to I-10 just east of Beaumont. Parts of 12 were falling apart and really made for uncomfortable driving. I was beginning to wonder if the motor home was going to fall apart around us, when I saw a big blue sign ahead, "Welcome to Texas." Relief was coming. We drove...

Jun 21, 2014 - Texas Archeological Society Field School

Our friends Bunnie & Peter convinced us to join them at this year's Texas Archeological Society Field School in Columbus, Texas. Peter's sister and her husband graciously offered the use of their home to us. The day begins with breakfast at 05:30, which meant getting up at 04:45 to drive to the camping/eating location. After breakfast it's a short ride to the dig sites. There were about 300 participants this year, including about 60 young persons. We would dig till 13:00 and then have the afternoon off. Dinner back at the camp site was at...

Westward Ho! 2014

May 1, 2014 - LBJ and Bush 41

Arrived in Columbus, Texas Tuesday afternoon. Neat little Texas town midway between Houston and San Antonio. Lots of historical buildings and shops. Finally had Texas barbecue (actually went 2X) and it was deeelicious! Still looking forward to tacos, but have not found an authentic roadside stand. Wednesday and Dennis is off to visit the Bush 41 Library and to Camping World. Our surge protector for the RV went on the fritz, so "hello Camping World" and "goodbye $350." I stayed behind, as we had visited this library once before, to do some...

Feb 3, 2014 - West to AZ - Columbus, TX

03Feb14 - This evening we plan to be at the Columbus RV Park, in Columbus TX. We arrived about 5PM. We stopped for fuel and decided to go into the Denny's at the truck stop for lunch....mistake! It took forever so we did not get in as early as planned to the rv park. Never the less we are here and parked for the night. Tomorrow it is on to Junction, TX. where we will celebrate Gene's birthday!

Jan 15, 2014 - TT Colorado River, Columbus, Texas

Our 145 mile drive was easy, breezy and quick. This is a short stop for us on our way further south. However, we did make an adjustment to our itinerary while here. Since the red cedar is still in bloom around the San Antonio area, we will not be going there. Rebecca's allergies react very violently to the red cedar. So, we decided to go to the Gulf Coast and visit friends at Rockport and Corpus Christie. We expect to do a little fishing, birding, golf and visiting there as we have several friends who winter there.
