May 16, 2013 - Cleburne

We then traveled to Cleburne, an area struck by Texas tornados just two nights earlier. The Chisom Trail Outdoor Museum was our destination. We were met at the school house by a man giving a lecture about the museum. Educational classes are taught in a recently reporduced period school. It was quite interesting along with the unusual blacksmith shop which contained an incredibly ornate William F. Cody black power ball pistol complete with a and gold plated power flask. The museum was donation only.

Dec 24, 2011 - Christmas is Family

Christmas Eve found all of the Ashlocks gathered at Wayne and Cindy's house for a reunion of the five Paul Ashlock siblings which had not happened in quite a few years. In addition to Happy's visit, he also brought his daughter Brittany with her husband and their two children. A good time was had by all talking, visiting, eating, talking, eating etc. Cindy set up a taco bar along with some great chicken enchiladas. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's good.

Two Hams in a Can

Oct 17, 2011 - Fossel Rim Wildlife Center

Today was another really fun day. We went to the Fossel Rim Wildlife Center. This is a park where the animals run free, and the people stay in their vehicles. We took a tour instead of driving our own car, both to protect the car (We do still need it until we get home), and to get more information about the animals. It was a lot of fun. The Ostriches and Giraffes come right up to the van and put their heads in to try to get food from the cups. A lot of other animals will approach the bus, but are not quite as aggressive as the ostriches and...

Oct 17, 2011 - Fossil Rim Wildlife Centger

Today was another wonderful day. We went to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and took their "Behind the Scenes" tour. It was a three hour tour in an open air van with a husband and wife team (Sherry and Riley Davis) as our driver and tour guide. We had decided on the guided tour as opposed to driving through the park in our own vehicle because some of the more aggressive horned and antlered animals can do a job on your vehicle and some of the other animals like the giraffe can do a lot of slobbering. That was the reason we took the guided...

Oct 16, 2011 - Stockyard District of Ft Worth

Today was a really fun day. After breakfast at the hotel, we left for the Stockyard National Historical District in Fort Worth and about 40 minutes from our hotel. We got there just in time to see the "cattle drive" down the middle of Exchange Street. While it wasn't exactly the running of the bulls, it was fun to watch and to see the longhorn steers up close. After the cattle drive we made our way through a couple of gift shops and down an alleyway to Billy Bob's. This is a real cool place. Besides the gift shops, restaurants, bars and...

Oct 16, 2011 - Stockyard in Fort Worth

Today was a really fun day. After breakfast at the hotel, we drove to the Stockyard in Fort Worth. It is a really cool place. Soon after we got there, there was a cattle drive down the main street. It consisted of about 4 or 5 long-horned steer and a few cowboys leading them. It wasn't very big, but it was fun to watch. After that, we walked down a street with several little shops leading to Billy Bobs Texas. This is a complex of different things like an arcade, a bull riding ring, gift shops, and a couple bars. As we strolled through...

Oct 15, 2011 - Roswell, NM to Cleburne, TX

Today was a very long travel day from Roswell, NM to Cleburne, TX. The ride was uneventful, but it took about 8 hours. Probably the longest one-day drive we've had so far. We are staying at a Hampton Inn, and it is very nice. So far, what we have seen of Texas looks interesting. Tomorrow, we will start exploring the area to see what's here.
